In this study, three dimensional FE analysis of concrete slab track has been performed in order to develop the realistic design of precast concrete slab track. The precast slab track system including the precast concrete slab panel and the grout layer is modeled using the three dimensional solid element with crack softening effect. The input load is computed from the one dimensional beam element model constituting the rail and several discrete springs. To investigate the effect of the longitudinal connection of slab panels, two different systems-continuous and discrete systems - are modeled. The analytical results show that the stresses of both the slab panel and the grout layer are in the range of linear elastic, and, at the interface between two adjacent panels, the primary stresses of the grout layer of the discrete system are higher than those of the continuous system. However, The overall stress levels of the grout layer are very low relative to the strength of th grout.
The study summarized in this paper is concerned with the buckling of longitudinal bars in reinforced concrete columns with numerical analysis method. The objectives of this study are (1) to investigate the stress transfer mechanism between concrete and reinforcement and (2) to propose a modeling equation. The results give an acceptable agreement between the proposed modeling equation and published computer packages as follows; (1) the proposed equation is a possible of strain softening of concrete and buckling of reinforcement. (2) the buckling of longitudinal bar is mainly influenced by spacing of hoop and location of the bar
A study on the behaviour of fibre reinforced concrete deep beams with and without web openings is carried out using nonlinear finite element analysis. Eight node isoparametric plane stress elements are employed to model the fibre reinforced concrete materials. Steel bars are treated using a compatible three node truss elements. The constitutive equations for fibre reinforced concrete materials take into account the softening effect of co-existing shear strains. Element stiffness at each step is formulated based on the tangent modulus at the current level of principal strains. Transformation between principal directions and global coordinate system is imposed. Comparison of analytical results with experimental values indicates reasonably good agreement. The proposed numerical model can be used to study the behaviour of this composite structures of practically any geometries.

Substantial experimental and theoretical work exists on the bond characteristics of FRP-concrete adhesive joints. Experimental studies show that the bond strength cannot always increase with an increase in the bond length, and that the ultimate strength is strongly influenced by the concrete strength. To solve this feature, analytic solutions based on fracture mechanics are widely used, and the local shear stress-slip curve with a softening branch is known as more rational model. The analytic solution, however, cannot describe various shapes of model curve. In this study, numerical method using interface element is introduced to express various shapes of model curve. Characteristics of adhesive joint is investigated for the shapes of the model curve and their parameters. And the numerical solutions are compared with the test results of CFRP sheet adhesive joints.

In this study, the behavior of saturated sandy soils under dynamic loads - pore water pressure and effective stress - was investigated using Disturbed State Concept(DSC) model. The model parameters are evaluated from laboratory test data. During the process of loading and reverse loading, DSC model is utilized to trace strain-hardening and cyclic softening behavior. The procedure of back prediction proposed in this study are verified by comparing with laboratory test results. From the back prediction of pore water pressure and effective mean pressure under cyclic loading, excess pore water pressure increases up to initial effective confining pressure and effective mean pressure decrease close to zero in good greement with laboratory test results. Those results represent the liquefaction of saturated sandy soils under dynamic loads. The number of cycles at initial liquefaction using the model prediction is in good agreement with laboratory test results. Therefore, the results of this study state that the liquefaction of saturated sandy soils can be explained by the effective tress analysis.
The present paper investigates the combination resonance behavior of imperfect spiral stiffened functionally graded (SSFG) cylindrical shells with internal and external functionally graded stiffeners under two-term large amplitude excitations. The structure is embedded within a generalized nonlinear viscoelastic foundation, which is composed of a two-parameter Winkler-Pasternak foundation augmented by a Kelvin-Voigt viscoelastic model with a nonlinear cubic stiffness, to account for the vibration hardening/softening phenomena and damping considerations. With regard to classical plate theory of shells, von-Kármán equation and Hook law, the relations of stress-strain are derived for shell and stiffeners. The spiral stiffeners of the cylindrical shell are modeled according to the smeared stiffener technique. According to the Galerkin method, the discretized motion equation is obtained. The combination resonance is obtained by using the multiple scales method. Finally, the influences of the stiffeners angles, foundation type, the nonlinear elastic foundation coefficients, material distribution, and excitation amplitude on the system resonances are investigated comprehensively.
The powder mixtures of Al, Ti and Cr were mechanically alloyed to obtain nanocrystalline powders of $Ti_{25}Cr_8Al_{67}$ composition. Both FCC phase and undissolved metal chromium formed by MA. During the annealing of the MA powders, the phase transition from FCC to ordered $Ll_2$ started at ~$300^{\circ}C$ and was completed below $600^{\circ}C$. As a result of the high-temperature compressive test for the MA powder compacts, the stress-strain curves showed serrated yielding behavior at 400 and $600^{\circ}C$, and softening phenomenon below the strain rate of $5{\times}10^{-3}s^{-1}$ at $800^{\circ}C$. The compressive yield strength as a function of test temperatures showed the nature of the positive-temperature dependence which has the peak temperature around $600^{\circ}C$.

The study summarized in this paper is concerned with the buckling of a longitudinal bar in reinforced concrete members by numerical analysis method. The objectives of this study are to investigate the stress transfer mechanism between concrete and reinforcment and to propose a modeling equation. The result gives an acceptable agreement between the proposed modeling equation and the computer package as follows: (1) the proposed equation is a possible prediction of the strain softening of concrete and reinforcement buckling. (2) the buckling of longitudinal bars is mainly influenced by the spacing of hoops and the location of the bar.
The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of stress corrosion cracking(SCC) and acoustic emission(AE) signals for the weld HAZ of HT-60 steel under corrosion control in synthetic seawater. Corrosive environment was controlled by potentiostat, and SCC experiment was conducted using a slow strain rate test method at strain rate of 10$^{-5}$ /sec. In order to verify the miroscopic fracture behaviour of the weldment during SCC phenomena, AE test was done simultaneously. Besides, correlationship between mechanical parameters and AE ones was investigated. In case of the parent, reduction of area(ROA) at -0.5V was samller than any other applied voltage such as -0.8V and -1.1V. In addition, reduction of area for the PWHT specimens at -0.8mV was larger than that of the weldment due to the softening effect according to PWHT. In case of the weldment, a lots of events was produced because of the singularities of the weld HAZ compared with the parent.
This paper presents tension stiffening effect of Reinforced concrete members obtained from experimental results on direct tension and bending. From the direct tension test program, crack patterns were investigated with tension softening behaviors of concrete. Tension stiffening effects and losses of strain energy were, also, analyzed from the load-deflection curve with the main experimental variables such as concrete strength, yielding stress and reinforcement ratio of rebar. Tension stiffening effect of RC members increase linearly until the first crack initiate, decrease inversely with number of cracks, and then decrease rapidly when splitting cracks are happened. The tension stiffening effect is shown to be more important at the member of lower reinforcement than that of higher. Therefore, it necessitates to consider the tension stiffening effects at a nonlinear analysis. From the above analysis, a tension stiffening model of concrete is proposed and verified by applying it to bending members. From the numerical analysis by finite element approach, it is shown that the proposed model evaluates a little higher in analyzing at nonlinear region of high strength concrete, but, perform satisfactorily in general.
