  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between hybrid layer thickness and bond strength using confocal laser scanning microscope and microtensile bond strength test of two adhesive systems. The dentin surface of human molars. sectioned to remove the enamel from the occlusal surface. Either Scotchbond Multi-Purpose(3M Dental Product, St. Paul, MN, U.S.A) or Clearfil SE Bond (Kuraray, Osaka, Japan) was bonded to the surface. and covered with resin-composite. The resin-bonded teeth were serially sliced perpendicular to the adhesive interface to measure the hybrid layer thickness by confocal laser scanning microscope. The specimen were trimmed to give a bonded cross-sectional surface area of $1\textrm{mm}^2$, then the micro-tensile bone test was performed at a cross head speed of 1.0 mm/min. All fractured surfaces were also observed by stereomicroscope. There was no significant differences in bond strengths the materials(p>0.05). However. the hybrid layers of three-step dentin adhesive system, SM, had significantly thicker than self-etching adhesive system. CS(p<0.05). Pearson's correlation coefficient showed no correlation between hybrid layer thickness and bond strengths(p>0.05). Bond strengths of dentin adhesive systems were not dependent on the thickness of hybrid layer.

  • It is a known fact that the cement production is responsible for almost 5% of total worldwide $CO_2$ emission, the primary factor affecting global warming. Geopolymers are valuable as ordinary Portland cement (OPC) substitutes because geopolymers release 80% less $CO_2$ than OPC and have mechanical properties sufficiently similar to those of OPC. Therefore, geopolymers have proven attractive to eco-friendly construction industries. Geopolymers can be fabricated from aluminum silicate materials with alkali activators such as fly ash, blast furnace slag, and so on. Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) slag has been used for fabricating geopolymers. In general, IGCC slag geopolymers are fabricated with finely ground and sieved (<128 mesh) IGCC slag. The grinding process of as-received IGCC slag is one of the main costs in geopolymer production. Therefore, the idea of using as-received IGCC slag (before grinding the IGCC slag) as aggregates in the geopolymer matrix was introduced to reduce production cost as well as to enhance compressive strength. As-received IGCC slag (0, 10, 20, 30, 40 wt%) was added in the geopolymer mixing process and the mixtures were compared. The compressive strength of geopolymers with an addition of 10 wt% as-received IGCC slag increased by 19.84% compared to that with no additional as-received IGCC slag and reached up to 41.20 MPa. The enhancement of compressive strength is caused by as-received IGCC slag acting as aggregates in the geopolymer matrix like aggregates in concrete. The density of geopolymers slightly increased to $2.1-2.2g/cm^3$ with increasing slag addition. Therefore, it is concluded that a small addition of as-received IGCC slag into the geopolymer can increase compressive strength and decrease the total cost of the product. Moreover, the direct use of as-received IGCC slag may contribute to environment protection by reducing process time and $CO_2$ emission.

  • In the construction sector, new demands for aesthetics are increasing due to structural stability and improvement of living standard and consciousness level. On the other hand, Red Mud sludge is generated from aluminum hydroxide extraction process from Bauxite. Red mud sludge contains about 20% of $Fe_2O_3$ and represents a natural reddish brown. It is highly applicable to the construction industry. In this paper, red mud sludge with a water content of 50%, which is a by - product of the industry, was prepared as a liquid phase. The liquefied red mud was added to cement mortar and the strength and color difference of cement mortar were investigated according to the addition amount of liquefied red mud. As a result, the compressive strength decreased with increasing amount of liquefied red mud. The color of cement mortar containing liquefied red mud was found to be distributed in the range of YR series in all samples. As the amount of liquefied red mud increased, the color became darker.

  • Amphoteric polymers have brought to papermakers' attention gradually. In this paper, a series of amphoteric starches with different cationic and anionic degree of substitution (DS) are prepared. Better product has been selected and used under different condition. As retention and drainage aids, amphoteric starches were used in shorter fiber length, weak strength and poor drainage bleached AQ-Soda wheat straw pulp. In neutral and alkaline papermaking system, when amphoteric starches contain 0.024-0.026 anionic degree of substitution (DS), it is shown that the higher the cationic degree of substitution (DS) in amphoteric starches, the better the filler retention. The filler retention is improved 12.5%, 30.3%, and 35.1% and 32.5% respectively by adding 1% amphoteric starch LS-L2 -1 (0.034), LS-L2-2 (0.040), LS-L2-3 (0.047) and LS-L2-4 (0.052). But the strength of handsheets if affected a little. By adding 2% Al2 (SO4)3 and 1.5% LS-L2-3 at pH 7.5, filler retention can be improved from 38% to 80%, and breaking length of sheet only decreases 3.2%. As dry strengthening aids, amphoteric starches were used in eucalyptus APMP. Amphoteric starches are used in eucalyptus APMP. The amphoteric starch LS-L2-2 is better dry strength aid. Adding 1% LS-L2-2 can improve breaking length 24.5%, burst index 42.9%, tear index 38.8%, folding endurance and density of the handsheets.

  • The present study investigated the physical changes and reaction products with setting time after mixing of various mineral admixtures such as lime, hydrated lime, gypsum, kaolin, zeolite and diatomaceous earth with four types of cement (portland cement, slag cement, quick lime, hydrated lime) and clay rich sediments in soft foundation. As results, slag cement showed the greater compressive strength than normal portland cement. The mixing experiments with various mineral admixtures and slag cement resulted that gypsum showed the greatest compressive strength. Additionally, we conducted mixing experiments with various mixing ratios of gypsum and slag cement. The experiments showed that the mixing ratio of $30\%$ gypum and $70\%$ slag cement has the greatest compressive strength. Ettringite was produced as a reaction Product. This fact indicates that gypsum effectively promotes hydration reaction and contributed to the greater compressive strength. These experimental results can be used as fundamental data for the stabilization of soft clay foundation.

  • Recycling glass fiber, 'F-fiber,' was obtained by the separation of the roving layer from waste FRP and the concrete products or structures were considered for its application. Experiment was carried out for the bending strength of aggregate (2.45 of cement) by weight and F-fiber (density of 1.45, volume ratio to all of the aggregate and the cement). Whereas the specimen containing 1% F-fiber showed the bending strength 23% higher than that without F-fiber after curing far 28 days, the one with 0.5% F-fiber did not give any change. It could be found, therefore, that the minimum mixing amount should be larger than 0.5% fur the strength reinforcement. One of the reinforcing concrete product, bench flume, containing 1% F-fiber showed 21% increment of bending strength In contrast to that without F-fiber.

  • Recently, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) have been used in various fields because of its high specific modulus, and chemical properties. Most products in which CFRP composites are used are manufactured by joining the product components by bolts or pins. Holes for bolts and pins decrease the strength of the components because these holes act as notches in the structures. In this study, the fracture strength of CFRP plain-weave composite plates containing holes is experimentally investigated to examine the effects of hole-size and specimen width on notched tensile strength. The results show that the characteristic length considered in the point stress criterion depends on the hole size and specimen width. There exists a certain relation between notched tensile strength and characteristic length. Fracture criterion is redefined on basis of this relation.

  • In this paper, Used on the bridge and ship, investigate the physical relationship of aluminium plate girders(A6082-T6) considering the marine environment. Plate girder will experience the patch loading such as moving load, surcharge in the product life cycle. The ultimate strength of aluminum plate girders subjected to these loads applied multiple numerical model and performed the elasto-plastic large deflection series analysis and was proposed the predicted formula for regression analysis. The predicted formula was shown by the relationship of ultimate strength and slenderness. If the slenderness is low(0-2.3), it causes a 9 % error, and If the slenderness is higher(2.3-4.0), it causes a 1-2 % error. Therefore, the propriety of proposed prediction formular was found to be assess rationally.

  • In this study, we propose an antibacterial cosmetic case using UV wavelengths. UVC have excellent antibacterial strength in terms of economics and convenience. The purpose of experiments was to prove it and to select a suitable permeability material. In experiments, UVA, UVC machanics and the competitor product were used to measure and compare the antibacterial strength of antibacterial cosmetic case using UV wavelength. S. aureus, a gram-positive strain, was used subject to the experiment, and the antibacterial strength measured and compared the number of colonies using the plate count technique. As a result, both UVA and UVC showed antibacterial activity, and UVC showed the most powerful antibacterial activity. In Conclusion, the Quartz glass was the most suitable of the permeable materials, but the more thick the examined quartz material became the less antibacterial strength.
