  • We report highly improved yield strength of nickel thin film, prepared using electroplating. The micro-scaled nickel cantilever is found to have significantly higher yield strength than bulk nickel. For the yield strength test, the heights of the micro-scaled cantilever were varied up to 60 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and electrostatic force was used for actuation. Stress of the bent cantilever was estimated using the FEM large deflection model. The yield strength of the thin nickel film is found to be over five times higher than that of the bulk nickel previously published. Results from this study indicate that metal microstructures can be used for MEMS applications requiring large deflection.

  • In order to determine the possibility of using NDGPS signals for flight operations, in-flight measurements of signals transmitted from various ground reference stations(RS) were conducted along the air routes of South Korea. Signal strength and signal to noise ratio(SNR) data were collected along domestic flight routes and recorded with time. By using three-dimensional geographical position data of the aircraft, signal strength data of en-route position were calculated and used to obtain scatter-plot of signal strength. These results were used to outline the effective coverage and field strength hemispheres of the selected DGPS signals.

  • Plasma treatment time was optimized to maximize the bonding strength between silicon and quartz. Bonding strength between the silicon and quartz is related to a surface energy which can be calculated by contact angle measurement. It was found that optimized time to get maximized surface energy was 15 sec. Silicon and quartz wafers were treated with $O_2$ plasma under different time splits and then bonded together. Bonding strength of the bonded wafers was measured by shear test. It was verified that the highest bonding strength was obtained when the silicon and quartz wafers were treated for 15 seconds. The maximum bonding strength exceeded the fracture strength of silicon.

  • This paper summarizes the study on effect of ceramic waste powder as partial substitute to cement in binary blend and along with silica fume in ternary blend high strength concrete in normal and aggressive environments. Strength parameters such as compression & tension and durability indices such as corrosion measurement, deterioration, water absorption and porosity were studied. Ceramic waste powder was used in three different percentages namely 5, 10 and 15 with constant percentage of silica fume (1%) as substitutes to cement in ternary blend high strength concrete was investigated. After a detailed investigation, it was understood that concrete with 15% ceramic waste powder registered maximum performance. Increase of ceramic waste powder offered better resistance to deterioration of concrete.

  • We have studied the test method for strength of spray dried ceramic powder using manual press and UTM. which is one of the important to influence forming process. We could observe the compaction behavior using manual press. However the measurement of granule strength was only possible with UTM capable of providing the condition of a constant pressing rate. The strength of granule can be measured from the slope change of compaction curve and agrees with the value which is obtained from the combination of saturated tap density and compaction curve. So we proposed the accurate method to measure the strength of granule from the results of this study.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of kinematic taping on respiratory muscle strength in smokers. Twenty - five university students who smoke were involved in the study. All participants were applied to kinematic taping to breathe deeply again. Subjects sit on their backs straight up and place their hands on their thighs. Tape 1 is applied from the lower prominent neck vertebrae(seven cervical vertebra) inward and downward, past shoulder blade, around ribs to the lower tip of sternum. Tape 2 extends to the lower, outer edge of shoulder blade, around ribs to the lower tip of sternum. Respiratory muscle strength was measured with Micro Mouth Pressure Measurement before and after taping. The application of kinematic taping significantly improved the inspiratory and expiratory muscle strength (p<.05). These findings suggest that kinematic taping effective in improving respiratory muscle strength and deep breathing.

  • In this paper, the estimation of super retarding concrete incorporating mineral admixtures at the same time including fly ash(FA), blast furnace slag(BS) are studied based on maturity method. The setting time was retarded, as super retarding agent contents increase and curing temperature decreases. In addition, apparent activation energy by Arrhenius function was ranged from $24\sim35$ KJ/mol with slightly difference along with mixture proportion. This value is smaller than existing value $30\sim50$ KJ/mol. Based on strength development estimation. it exhibited comparable relativity between prediction value and measurement value. Therefore, this study provided effective strength development prediction value with super retarding agent contents and mineral admixture combination. Strength development prediction equation provided herein is possibly valid for estimating accurate strength development of the super retarding concrete at the job site.

  • In 2005, a regulation on the heavy-weight impact sound was released, which restricted concrete slab thickness of standard floor to 210mm. To reduce heavy-weight impact sound, damping materials and structural reinforcement system have been proposed. In this study, the effect of compressive strength on the heavy-weight impact vibration and sound were investigated. FEM analysis was conducted for the 34PY apartment with different concrete strength (210, 350, 420kg/cm$^2$). In addition, apartment floors with different concrete strength were constructed and the floor impact vibration and sound were measured. Results of FEM analysis and measurement show that the resonance frequency of concrete slab was increased by the increment of concrete strength. However, floor impact sound pressure level did not decrease because the nor impact vibration and sound pressure level in 63Hz band increased.
