The aim of the present study is to investigate the characteristics of ultimate the fatigue strength of hopper knuckles in merchant vessels carrying bulk cargo or LNG/LPG/ The ultimate strength test is undertaken on the hopper knuckle model, subject to end tip load. A series of fatigue tests are carried out on the hopper knuckle models varying the level of the nominal stresses. The elasto-plastic finite element analysis is performed to examine the distribution of hot spot stresses near weld toe and also the progressive collapse behavior of the test model. S-N curves are developed based on the fatigue test results.

This paper presents the micro-mechanical modeling for predicting concrete behavior under compressive loading. The model is able to represent the heterogeneities in the microstructure up to three phases, i.e., aggregate particles, matrix and interfaces. The smeared crack concept based on non-linear fracture mechanics is implemented in order to formulate the constitutive relation for each component. The splitting tensile strength is considered as a fracture criterion for cracking in micro-level. The finite element method is employed to simulate the model based on plane stress condition by using quadratic triangular elements. The validation of the model is verified by comparing with the experimental results. The influence of tensile strength from both aggregate and matrix phases on the concrete compressive strength is demonstrated. In addition, a guideline on selecting appropriate tensile strength for each phase to obtain specified concrete compressive strength is also presented.
The high-temperature creep of Ultra-High-Strength Concrete (UHSC) has been investigated in this study. The purpose of this study is to evaluated total strain and high-temperature creep at elevated temperatures under loading condition of UHSC. As results, Total strain of UHSC increased showing shrinkage with increasing compressive strength. The high-temperature creep of UHSC increased with the temperature and higher level of compressive strength showed bigger high-temperature creep.
In this paper, the tensile strength in aluminum alloy 5052, Kevlar 49-fiber reinforced aluminum alloy laminates, and Glass-fiber reinforced aluminum alloy laminates, is statistically evaluated. Prepregs manufactured in Han Kuk Fiber is used and FRMLs is cured by Hot-Press. Standard statistical are used to determine the distribution function which best fits FRMLs strength data. The normal,lpg-normal, and two-parameter Weibull distrbuttion are evaluated using the Kolmogoorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit test. At the 5% significance level, none of these distribution is rejected. The strength of Aluminum alloy 5052 is best fits to a normal distribution. However, the strength of Kevlar 49-fiber reinforced aluminum alloy laminates and Glass-fiber reinforced aluminum alloy laminates is best fits to a two-parameter Weibull distribution.
The recycled concrete, average compressive strength of which was 2l0kg/cm$^2$ or higher with slump range of 14~18cm, was prepared by replacing 25% and 50% by weight of coarse aggregate with recycled aggregate from waste concrete. Mix design method for crushed aggregates was used and all specimens were cured by normal moisture curing method. A plasticiser and a fly ash were added to the mix to improve performance of recycled concrete. Flexural strength, stress- strain relationship and fracture toughness were evaluated by comparing with those of normal concretes. Recycled concrete showed, in general, lower flexural strength and fracture toughness, and higher strain under the same stress level. Fly ash in the concrete had an effect of reducing the strength and fracture toughness on both normal and recycled concretes. Since fly ash is known to improve many properties of concrete, while reducing strength properties, decision for using fly ash should be made carefully depending on the intended usage of the recycled concrete.
This study is a result that, in order to improve the early stage strength of fly ash, the calciumsulfoaluminate in which the generation of ettringite was very active in the early stage was substituted by some amount, and then the effect on the early stage was analyzed. when fly ash was substituted by 30$\%$, the strength dropped by maximum 54 $\%$ in the 3rd day of aging, compared to the cement mixture, but when CSA was substituted by 8 $\%$ in the fly ash amount, the strength improved at the 86 percent level of cement, it is suggested as an economical and effective method to improve the early-stage strength that CSA should be mixed by 8$\%$ compared to the fly ash amount used
For the production of high strength constructional glass reinforced plastics and various composite materials continuous glass fibers of high strength and increased modulus of elasticity are used. As is known, the glasses with highest strength were obtained in magnesia alumosilicate and magnesia lime-alumosilicate systems when introducing oxides of titanium and zirconium, boric anhydride, etc. in some cases. The experimental investigations have shown that some glass compositions are characterized by the ratio viscosity/crystallization which is favourable for glass fiber drawing process that permits the attainment of high strength level at the conditions of high temperature glass melting and formation.
This paper is concerned with the fatigue strength assessment of tendon porch found which is categorized as the special structural member in TLP. Large-scale tendon porch specimens have been designed and fabricated with API 2W Gr.50 steel recently produced by POSCO. Fatigue test has been carried out for three tendon porch specimens under various load level. Fatigue strength has been evaluated based on the nominal stress range and the results are compared with the fatigue design curve of DnV RP-C203. From the present experimental study, it has been found that the porch specimens satisfy the fatigue design rule although test was carried out under the positive stress ratio. It can be, therefore, said that the API 2W steel produced by POSCO possess sufficient fatigue strength.
Outdoors we can easily acquire our accurate location by GPS. However, the GPS signal can't be acquired indoors because of its weak signal power level. Adequate positioning method is demanded for many indoor positioning applications. At present, wireless local area network (WLAN) is widely installed in various areas such as airport, campus, and park. This paper proposes a positioning algorithm using WLAN signal strength to provide the position of the WLAN user indoors. There are two methods for WLAN based positioning, the signal propagation method uses signal strength model over space and the empirical method uses RF power propagation database. The proposed method uses the probability distribution of the power propagation and the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) algorithm based on power strength DB. Test results show that the proposed method can provide reasonably accurate position information.
To minimize construction of nuclear facility, it is required to reduce reinforcing bar amount and solve reinforcing bar concentration and for this, it is necessary to develop appication design technology and modular of high strength reinforcing bar. Hence, KHNP reduces excessive reinforcing bar amount which can cause possibility of poor construction of concrete through design standard development and modular of nuclear facility structure using high strength reinforcing bar to raise economics and has its purpose to maintain high-level safety and durability as they are. This study is to introduce application method for the Rebar Modulation of High-Strength Reinforcing Bars to the Nuclear Power Plant Structures.
