A Fuzzy Predictive Sliding Mode Control for High Performance Induction Motor Position Drives

  • This paper presents a fuzzy predictive sliding mode control for high performance induction motor position drives. A new simplified inner-loop sliding-mode current control scheme based on a nonlinear mathematical model of an induction motor is introduced. Novel predictive fuzzy logic PI and PID controllers are used in speed and position loops, respectively. Sliding-mode current controllers and fuzzy predictive logic controllers are designed based on indirect vector control. The overall system performance is examined under different dynamic operating conditions. The performance of the drive system is robust and stable, and insensitive to parameters and operating condition variations even though non-exact system parameters are used in the implementation of the proposed controllers.

  • This paper describes a robust landmark matching method to reduce ambiguity of candidate of landmark. General robot system acquires the candidate of landmark through vision sensor in outdoor environment. Our robot uses the omnidirectional vision system to get all around the view. Thus, the robot obtains more candidates of landmark than the conventional vision system. To obtain the candidates of landmark, robot uses the two types of feature. They are vertical edge and merged region of vertical edges.   • LED lighting because of high efficiency, long life, friendly environment, as a general lighting of the next generation, has been substituted for incandescent bulb and fluorescent lamp. The proposed system for use of solar battery is the intelligent controller for LED street lights which is improved the method of battery charging and charging efficiency in winter to extend battery life cycle, controlled lighting current according to SoC and in steps. Also, it is implemented emotional lighting which is controlled with the surrounding environment, by using colorful sub LED to take up 10[%] of a source of total light, white LED. As a lab results, the proposed system was implemented functions to adapt to the environmental changes, and improved the charging efficiency and battery life cycle.

  • As the number of visually impaired people steadily increases, interest in independent walking is also increasing. However, there are various inconveniences in the independent walking of the visually impaired at present, reducing the quality of life of the visually impaired. The white cane, which is an existing walking aid for the visually impaired, has difficulty in recognizing upper obstacles and obstacles outside the effective distance. In addition, it is inconvenient to cross the street because the sound signal to help the visually impaired cross the crosswalk is lacking or damaged. These factors make it difficult for the visually impaired to walk independently. Therefore, we propose the design of an embedded system that provides traffic light recognition through object recognition technology, voice guidance using TTS, and upper obstacle recognition through ultrasonic sensors so that blind people can realize safe and high-quality independent walking.

  • Recently, as the social interest increase has been focused on new renewable energy system to build-up sustainable urban planning system, the related studies have been actively conducting. As well as in other areas, the construction area, which accounts for over 40% of the total energy consumption, clearly showed this tendency. Whereas, various landscape facilities applying renewable energy equipments have been manufactured and installed, systematic study available for planning and designing is rarely found in Korea. This study is expected to contribute to the landscape planning and designing by quantifying the energy-efficient and economic advantages of the renewable energy system for landscape facilities. For this purpose, the analysis on the energy-efficiency and economic values under the scenario that the current fossil power supply for the streetlights in urban parks in Seoul, Daegu, and Incheon were replaced by photovoltaic power generation were performed through RETScreen$^{(R)}$ a clean energy simulation program based on the NASA Satellite Meteorological Data. As a result, the generated power and the economic values vary depending on the climatic features of the appointed cities. This study will be used to build up the effective decision-making in applying the clean renewable system to the plan and design of landscaping.

Development of an RF-Ultrasonic Sensor System to Detect Goal and Obstacle for the CARTRI Robot (CARTRI 로봇의 목표물 검출과 장애물 검출을 위한 RE-초음파 센서 시스템 개발)

  • In a park or street, we can see many people Jogging or walking with their dogs chasing their masters. In the previous study, an entertainment robot, CARTRI that imitates the dog's behavior was created. The robot's task was chasing a moving goal that was recognized as the master. The physical structure of the CARTRI robot was three-wheel type locomotion system. The sensor system which could detect the position of the master in the outdoor space, was consists of a signal transmitter which was held by the master and five ultrasonic receivers which were mounted on the robot. In the experiment, the robot could chase a human walking in outdoor space like a park. But it could not avoid obstacles and its behavior was only goal-chasing behavior because of the limit of the sensor system. In this study, an improved RF-ultrasonic sensor system which can detect both goal and obstacle is developed in order to enable the CARTRI robot to carry out various behavior. The sensor system has increased angle resolution by using eight ultrasonic receivers instead of five in the previous study. And it can detect obstacle by using reflective type ultrasonic sensors. The sensor system is designed so that detection of goal and obstacle could be conducted in one sampling period. The Performance of the developed sensor system is evaluated through experiments.

Railway Switching Point Heating System Using the Photovoltaic-Wind Power Hybrid (태양광-풍력 하이브리드를 이용한 철도 선로전환기 융설 장치 구현)

  • This paper proposes the method to implement the railroad switching point heating system using the hybrid of the photovoltaic and wind power. The goal of the implementation of the railroad switching point heating system is to prevent freezing of the snow in the winter. The heating system of railway used to supply electricity through photovoltaic and wind power to prevent freezing. Hot wires of the railroad switching point heating system are used about 2kW of electric energy at the day. The electric energy of 2kW used the length of the hot wires about 3m. As the ON and/or OFF mode considering the tracks temperature and the ambient temperature, so the way the use of power-saving effect. In addition, the system can be used the railroad switching point heating system in winter and railway signal and street lights around the track in summer. In experiment, we acquired the power data according to time at the day of photovoltaic and wind power. We confirmed the temperature rise using the heating cable for 3m of $85^{\circ}C$, 30W/m. The temperature rise of the heating cable changes the temperature of $5^{\circ}C$ after 10 minutes and $11^{\circ}C$ after 10 minutes. We have confirmed the possibility of the railroad switching point heating system using the hybrid of the photovoltaic and wind power.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate preferences for spatial composition by urban design guidelines of detached housing areas using CG simulation, with the aim of contributing to the improvement and management of residential townscapes. The list of urban design guidelines for detached housing areas was derived from an analysis of urban design guidelines and landscape regulations from the U.S.A, Japan, and Korea. These guidelines comprise building guidelines, landscape guidelines, street guidelines, and sign guidelines. Through the preferences revealed by CG simulation, an optimum presentation method for the urban design guidelines was determined. Based on the results of preferences, an appropriate management system and regulation standards were proposed. In conclusion, the efforts carried out on the study and legislation of a management system and regulation standards for the urban design guideline will accomplish the amenity of residential environments.

  • This study deals with optimal conditions for design parameters of the multistage bollard with up and down installed on the street to protect pedestrians or stop cars. FE simulation and Taguchi method are used to achieve the optimization for the automatic multistage bollard to minimize effective stress caused by the external force. Thickness, height of stage 2, diameter and over-all height which affect its structural strength are chosen as design parameters. According to the experiments combined by orthogonal array, each of the effective stresses is evaluated. And the results are analyzed by using the signal to noise ratio concept of Taguchi method. From their results, the optimal combination of design parameters are proposed.

  • In this paper, the detection scheme of the spatial coordinates based on stereo camera for a Transformation algorithm of an Leg-wheel Hexapod Robot is proposed. Robot designed as can have advantages that do transfer possibility fast mobility in flat topography and uneven topography through walk that use wheel drive. In the proposed system, using the disparity data obtained from the left and right images captured by the stereo camera system and the perspective transformation between a 3-D scene and an image plane, depth information can be detected. Robot uses construed environmental data and transformation algorithm, decide wheel drive and leg waik, and can calculate width of street and regulate width of robot.
