  • Water quality improvement projects are being implemented without predicting the effect of water quality improvement on Lake Sapgyo. As the method of selecting the target stream for the effective conduct of water quality improvement projects the method of rating the streams were studied. To build a stream grading method, 60 major streams in the Lake Sapgyo system were monitored. The selection method of rivers subject to priority management for water quality improvement was applied to the stream grading method using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). The analysis of importance by site by stream grading method revealed the following: water quality (36.0%), flow (26.1%), travel load (13.4%), TMDL density (12.0%), TMDL (8.9%), and area (3.7%). The pollution level of the river was scored by using the stream grading method, and the ranking of 51 streams was calculated. Based on this, the group was classified into six grades (A-F). Among the groups, the F and E groups were selected as the priority management streams. Cheonan-Cheon (Cheonan City) was selected as the first stream to establish water quality improvement measures in the Lake Sapgyo system, and Seowoo-Cheon (Dangjin City) was selected as the second site, and Oncheon-Cheon (Asan City) was selected as the third site. Each local government is expected to improve the water quality improvement effect with limited resources when establishing and implementing water quality improvement measures for the streams (F group, E group) to be managed in this study.

  • Objective : This study was performed to investigate the effect of herbal steam therapy on peripheral facial paralysis. Method : 33 patients with peripheral facial paralysis were treated with Korean Medicine therapy including herbal steam therapy. We evaluated the effect of herbal steam therapy by Yanagihara grading system and satisfaction measurement. Results : 1. 33 patients were treated with korean medicine therapy and $27.85{\pm}16.44$ times of herbal steam therapy. 2. After treatment, Y-system score was significantly increased(p-value<0.001) from $18.45{\pm}6.5196$ to $35.42{\pm}5.2501$. 3. 87.88% of patients was satisfied with herbal steam therapy. Conclusions : Herbal stream therapy seem to be effective to improve symptoms of peripheral facial paralysis. Further studies will be needed to identify the beneficial of herbal steam therapy on peripheral facial paralysis.

  • Concrete Soil Erosion Control Dam, which blocks flow of debris flow in torrential stream, are reported to lose expected functions due to structural failure and collapses, caused by poor construction, material deterioration and external impacts. In this paper, an integrity assessment technique for debris barriers was proposed, which allows preliminary detection of problems inherent in debris barriers. The proposed integrity assessment technique is a non-destructive method based on SASW method, one of surface-wave tests. In this paper, a practical procedure and analysis guidelines in applying the SASW technique to debris barrier was proposed and its validity was verified using five decrepit debris barriers older than 20-year old. As a result, the SASW method was validated for the reliable grade evaluation method for concrete soil erosion control dam, and the resulting grades turned out to agree with the results determined by Sabang Associations.

  • This study is undertaken to find the optimal method to make the decision on the degree of water pollution by comparison of K-WQI, KOE-WQI that is made for index with the water quality index and water quality environment standard of the Frame Act on Environment Policy as the result of survey for water quality reality on the major point of the Yeongsan river from 2002 to 2004. The water quality of major rivers has some differences depending on seasons. however, under the water quality standard by the $BOD_5$ density, most of rivers displayed the water quality level of $II{\sim}III$ grading, and on K-WQI that is classified by indexing for 10 categories of pH, DO, $BOD_5,\;COD,\;SS,\;T-N,\;NH_3-N,\;NO_{3^-}$ N, T-P, and E-Coli and classified into 5 groups from 100 points to 40 points, they displayed the score distribution of the first grade in water quality for $85{\sim}100$ points to the second grade in water quality for $70{\sim}84$ points. On KOE-WQI that is classified by indexing for 5 categories of pH, DO, $BOD_5$, COD and T-coli and classified into 5 groups from 90 points or above for outstanding and 29 points or below for very bad, and the water quality distribution is made ranged from the first grade in water quality for 90 points or more to the third grade in water quality for $69{\sim}50$ points. In addition, for the contribution of the water quality decline, the Environmental standard has significant dependency on the $BOD_5$ density, with K-WQI contributing in various water quality decline depending on the environment around the river area of $BOD_5,\;T-N,\;NH_3-N,\;NO_3-N,\;T-P$, and E-Coli, and KOE-WQI acting os the factor contributing to lower the water quality decline by $BOD_5$, COD, and T-coli. As such, the current water quality environment standard has high dependency on $BOD_5$ and KOE-WQI excludes some nitrogen and phosphorus that considers the river environment that the grade in water quality is set by some category, and K-WQI reflected well of the ecology environment of rivers with the diversity of the assessment factor as well as to have the low dependency of specific factor to be objective.

  • The geology of the Pacitan district which occupies Southern mountain zone in the southwestern margin of East Java, Indonesia, consists of a pile of clastics and pyroclastics grading upwards into a series of sediments of Middle Miocene age which are intruded by a number of quartz porphyries and subvolcanic dacitic to andesitic bodies in after that time. The geochemical exploration in the Pacitan district to find out anomalous areas related with metallic mineral dispersion from the concealed ore deposits had been carried out using traditional exploration techniques of geological mapping, stream sediment, panned concentrate and outcrop sampling. The anomalous zones of each element were detected in the following areas: Gempol for Cu; Jompong for Au; Kasihan for Cu-Pb-Zn. The strongest Cu-Pb-Zn anomalous values are overlapped at the Kasihan area. The geochemical survey of soil was conducted with the geological survey at the Kasihan area. The statistical values were calculated by the statistical analysis method. The patterns for Cu, Pb and Zn are similar to the normal distribution. The anomalous values of copper-lead-zinc and/or copper and zinc are overlapped at five zones surrounding quartz porphyry at the central part of the Kasihan area. The area was interpreted and chosen as an anomalous zone related with stockwork and skam mineralization, extending to approximately NNW-SSE direction.
