During the past decade, integrated stratigraphy has been effectively applied to many sedimentary basins to analyze stratigraphic response to tectonic evolution. This application has been beneficial to hydrocarbon exploration in the basins because it provides a better understanding of temporal and spatial relationships of hydrocarbon source and reservoir rocks as a function of basin evolution. Like the maturation, migration, and trapping of hydrocarbons, ore-forming processes in hydrothermal deposits may be causally linked to particular phases of basin evolution. Consequently, applying integrated stratigraphy to mineral exploration may be a logical and helpful approach to understanding ore-forming processes and predicting their occurrence, location, and origin. To understand the stratigraphy for a hydrogeological setting, borehole logging data are used. The test site is located in Mangyeong-river bank area in Dodeok-dong Jeonju. 11 boreholes are developed to monitor groundwater level and quality. Based on the borehole data, SOLID model is used to get the distribution of each layer.
This paper reviews Professor O.J. Kim's work on "The stratigraphy and geologic structure of the Great Limestone Series in South Korea". Although he stated in his paper such as "very few geologists in Korea argue without confident evidences against the age and stratigraphy of the Great Limestone Series which have been rather well established previously in most parts of the regions", he disregarded the Jeongseon type of the Joseon (Chosen) System and modified the Yeongweol and the Pyeongchang types. According to his description, the Jeongseon type is not a different type and it is only due to structural repetition of the Hwajeol and Dumudong Formations of the Duwibong type and its Maggol Limestone. Also, he devided the Sambangsan Formation of the Yeongweol type into the east and west parts along the so-called Jeolgaesan fault, and they are correlated to the Hongjeom Series and Sesong Slate (Seison Slate) of Kobayashi, respectively. Furthermore he established newly Yeongweol type which includes the original Kobayashi's Yeongweol type and the Upper Limestone of the Pyeongchang type. Also, he pointed out that his newly established Yeongweol type is quite correlatable to the Duwibong type. The writer's opinion can be concluded that the Jeongseon type is not simply of structural repetition and structurely the Sambangsan Formation can not be devided into two parts. Also structurely there is no evidence of its correlation to the Sesong Slate as well as his conodont study in his Yeongweol type shows no indication of the correlation. The writer thinks that as to the stratigraphy of the Yeongweol and Jeongseon types of the Joseon System, it should be agreed with the Kobayashi's opinion or should be followed the idea of the very few geologists, he mentioned.

Sedimentological, geochemical, geophysical and micropaleontological analyses of 10 borehole cores were carried out to understand depositional environment and sequence stratigraphy of late Quaternary sedimentation in the estuary of the Nakdong River. Holocene Formation in study area is classified into five sedimentary units. Early Holocene freshwater lower pebbly sandy deposit(Unit I), lower muddy deposit(Unit II), middle thin sandy deposit(Unit III), upper muddy deposit(Unit VI), and upper sandy deposit(Unit V), in ascending order contolled by global sea-level change since interglacial period(about 15,000 yrs B.P.). Unit I deposited in erosional environments before marine trangression. Unit II and Unit VI composed of clay were deposited in cold and worm currents for marine trangression., respectively.
The late Quaternary stratigraphy and basal unconformity (nonconformity) of the intertidal deposits (upper tidal flat) in the Banweol tidal basin in the Kyunggi Bay, west coast of Korea has been investigated and established. The Unit I (middle to late Holocene upper intertidal deposit) and Unit II (pre-Holocene fluvial to alluvial deposit) in descending order are classified and interpreted. The basement rocks of the Banweol tidal basin is dominantly preCambrian metamorphic rocks on which Unit II is overlying unconformably. In short, the late Quaternary stratigraphy and unconformity of the Banweol tidal flat deposits are established and interpreted in terms of sedimentology and sea-level fluctuation history during late Quaternary.
On the moon as well as the earth, one of the easiest ways to understand geological formation history of any region is to observe the stratigraphy if it is available, the order in which the strata build up. By analyzing stratigraphy, it is possible to infer what geological events have occurred in the past. Mare Nubium also has an unique normal fault called Rupes Recta that shows stratigraphy. However, a rover moving with wheels is incompetent to explore the cliff since the Rupes Recta has an inclination of 10° - 30°. Therefore, a quadruped walking robot must be employed for stable expedition. To exploration a fault with a four-legged walking robot, it is necessary to design an expedition route by taking account of whether the stratigraphy is well displayed, whether the slope of the terrain is moderate, and whether there are obstacles and rough texture in the terrain based on the remote sensing data from the previous lunar missions. For the payloads required for fault surface exploration we propose an optical camera to grasp the actual appearance, a spectrometer to analyze the composition, and a drill to obtain samples that are not exposed outward.
Since the late 1980s, the sequence stratigraphic method has become a critical tool for hydrocarbon exploration/development projects in many frontier and mature sedimentary basins. The successful application of this method with high resolution 3D seismic data and well data is particularly important in frontier and deepwater areas, where exploration risk and capital commitment are high. Many international major and national oil companies have been using sequence stratigraphic approach as one of the main interpretation tools for the evaluation of their high impact projects. Applied correctly, this integrated interpretation method is a powerful tool that can be used to unravel the complex stratigraphy of a given basin and to dramatically increase overall understanding of various depositional models for both siliciclastic and carbonate systems.
The deep cored sediments of the beach spit deposit in the inlet of the Songji lagoon(lake) have been studied in terms of the late Quarternary stratigraphy and relationship of the Holocene sea-level curve. Furthermore, the total content of heavy mineral sands from the established stratigraphic units(Unit I, II and III) varies due to the changes of depositional environments from continental to marine condition.
