It is reported that $\varepsilon$ (HCP) and $\gamma$ (FCC) phases of a Fe-17Mn alloy transform to $\alpha'$ phase, which has BCC structure, under a deformation condition. In this study, we investigated the effect of strain-induced-transformed $\alpha'$ phase on sliding wear of the Fe-17Mn alloy that originally had e and y phases. Wear tests of the materials were carried out using a pin-on-disk wear tester at various loads of 0.5N-50N under a constant sliding speed condition of 0.38m/s against glass $(83\%\;SiO_2)$ beads. The sliding distance and radius were loom and 9 mm, respectively. Wear rate of the Fe-17Mn alloy was calculated by dividing the weight loss, measured to the accuracy of $10^{-5}g$ by the measured specific gravity and sliding distance. Worn surface and wear debris of the specimens were examined using an SEM and XRD. During the wear, $\alpha'$ phase of BCC structure was formed by strain-induced transformation when the applied wear load exceeded critical values. The $\alpha'$ phase formed by the strain induced transformation increased the wear rate of the Fe-17Mn alloy.
This study aimed at examining speech defects of openbite patients, which were analized in terms of formant frequency for vowels and word pronunciation length for consonants. In addition, the upper and lower lip (perioral m.) activity was tested by the EMG. The tongue force was measured by the strain gauge, and the speech discrimination test was carried out. One experimental group and one control group were used for this study and they were respectively composed of six female openbite patients and six normal-occlusion females. Eight monophthongs, two fricatives and two affricatives were chosen for speech analysis. Speeches of the above-mentioned groups were recorded and then analized by the ILS/PC-1 software. Four hundred most frequently used monosyllables were also chosen for discrimination score. Openbite patients showed the following characteristics: 1. Abnormality in case of /a/, $/\varepsilon/$, /e/, /i/ $F_2$ and /e/, /a/ $F_1$. 2. Significantly elongated length in their pronunciation of /h/ and $/C^h/$ and somewhat elongated length also in their pronunciation of /s/ and /c/. 3. Significant upper lip activity according to the EMG test during pronunciation of the bilabial consonants. 4. Relatively weak tongue force according to the strain gauge measurement. 5. According to the speech discrimination test, high rate of misarticulation in case of (a) initial /p/ /s'/ and /ts'/, (b) /a/,$/\varepsilon/$,/e/,/je/,/o/, $/\phi/$,/jo/,/u/,/we/, and /i/ (c) final (equation omitted).
Mechanical behavior of copper Nanowire is investigated, An FCC Nanowire model composed of 1,408 atoms is used for NID simulation, Simulations are performed within NVT ensemble setting without periodic boundary conditions, Nose-Poincare MD algorithm is employed to guarantee preservation of Hamiltonian. Numerical tensile tests are carried out with constant strain rate, Stress-strain curve is constructed from the calculated Cauchy stresses and specified strain values, Non-linear behavior appears around $\varepsilon$=0.064, At this instance, starting of structural reorientations are observed.
Zr-4 used for a cladding and an end plug of reactor component has creep deformation under operation at high temperature. Creep is regarded as the time dependent deformation of a material under constant applied stress. Although the major source of the deformation of zirconium component in water-cooled reactors is irradiation creep, the thermal creep may give a rise to significant deformation in reactor component especially at relatively high temperatures and at various constant stresses, and therefore it must be predicted accurately. Stress relaxation is the time dependent change of stress at constant strain and it is a process related intimately to creep. In this paper, the creep behavior and stress relaxation of Zr-4 is examined at the temperature of 50$0^{\circ}C$ that is 40% of the absolute melting temperature of Zr-4 under the stress below yield stress and under the various constant strains. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1) With an increase of stress, the steady state creep rate increases and the creep rupture time decreases. 2) The steady state creep rate $\varepsilon$(%/s) for the stress $\sigma$sub(c) (kgf/mm super(2)) of Zr-4 increases outstandingly. All the empirical equations computed for Zr-4 increases outstandingly. All the empirical equations computed for Zr-4 are in accord with Norton's model equation($\varepsilon$=K$\sigma$ sub(c) super (n)). The constants of materials computed are as follows: K=3.9881$\times$10 super(-5), n=1.9608 3) The rupture time T sub(r) (hr) decreases linearly with the increase of stress on the log-log scaled graph. The empirical equations computed for Zr-4 are in accord with Bailey's model equation (T sub(r)=K sub(1)$\sigma$sub(c) super(m)). The constants of materials computed are as follows: K sub(1)=1.2875$\times$10 super(16), m=-3.467 4) It seems clear that the strain could be quantitatively dependent on the high temperature creep properties such as creep stress, rupture time, steady state creep rate and total creep rate. It is found that these relationships are linear on the log-log graph. 5) In stress relaxation test, as the critical constant strain that can be allowed to the specimen is larger, stress relaxation becomes more rapid, and as the constant strain is smaller, the stress relaxation becomes slower.
Cu as a tramp element has been reported to encourage transverse cracking upon straightening operation during continuous casting or mini-mill processing. Therefore, the hot workability of steels containing Cu should be investigated. The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of Cu contents on the hot ductility of low carbon steels by using hot compression test. Hot compression test was carried out using a Gleeble. The specimens were heated to $1300^{\circ}C$ for solution treatment and then held for 300s before cooling at a rate of $1^{\circ}C/s$ to test temperatures in the range of $650{\sim}1150^{\circ}C$ ($50^{\circ}C$ intervals) with strain rate of $5{\times}10^{-3}/s$. In Cu containing steels, the hot ductility was decreased with increasing Cu content at high temperature region which is to be attributed to copper enriched phase formed at scale/steel interface, and low hot ductility with increasing Cu content at low temperature region is attributable to the strengthening of matrix by the formation of ${\varepsilon}-Cu$. The width of ductility trough region was decreased with increasing Cu content.
Creep behavior of Ti had been studied in a stress from 9.8 to 29.4 MPa and temperature rang from 873K to 973K with a special reference to tertiary creep. It was found that stress exponent of Ti was larger than that of the general pure metal and the compound metal. The relationship between true strain and strain rate in tertiary creep was appeared as the equation, $ln{\dot{e}}$ = $ln{\dot{e}}_{0}$ + ${\Omega}$ e Also, Apparent activation energy of was appeared as 274.92kJ/mol by using the equation ${\dot{\varepsilon}}_{0}$ = A ${\sigma }_{0}^{\ast_0}$ exp$(-Q_{0}/RT)$
Direct comparisons are made between curvature-corrected eddy viscosity models and the present experimental data. The results show that the curvature effects can be quantified through a curvature parameter R$\sub$c/ or S$\sub$c/ and a non-equilibrium value of p/$\varepsilon$. The data reveal a significant dependence of the eddy viscosity on the curvature and strain history for a fluid in a stabilizing curvature field, S$\sub$c/>1.0. Especially, experimental result shows that the eddy viscosity coefficient ratio at S$\sub$c/=3 changes from 10 to -10 although shear rate preserved constant. It is therefore suggested that proper curvature modifications, particularly the strain history effect, must be introduced into current eddy viscosity models for their application to turbulent flows subjected to curvature straining field for a non-negligible period of time.
A series of load-relaxation tests and tensile tests were conducted to study the high temperature deformation mechanism of fine duplex gamma TiAl alloy at temperatures ranging from 800 to 105$0^{\circ}C$. Results of load relaxation test showed that deformation behavior at a small imposed strain ($\varepsilon$≒0.05) was dominated by dislocation glide and dislocation climb. To investigate the deformation behavior at a large amount of strain, the processing map was constructed using a dynamic materials model. Two domains were characterized in the processing map obtained at a strain level of 0.6. One domain was found at the region of 98$0^{\circ}C$ and $10^{-3}/sec$ with a peak efficiency of 48%, which was identified as a domain of dynamic recrystallization from the microstructural observation. The order was observed at the region of 125$0^{\circ}C$ and $10^{-4}/sec$ with a peak efficiency of 64%. The strain rate sensitivity measured indicates that the material was deformed by the superplasticity in the region.
The effect of Al addition on the fatigue properties of austenitic Fe-25Mn-Al-0.5C steels was studied. When Al was not added to the Fe-25Mn 0.5C steel, the strain induced ${\varepsilon}$ martensites, deformation twins and slip bands were formed during fatigue deformation. When 2wt% of Al was added to the steel, the deformation twins and slip bands were formed during fatigue deformation. When 5wt% of Al was added, only slip bands were formed. In low cycle fatigue test, the alloys containing 0wt% and 2wt%Al showed the cyclic hardening due to ${\varepsilon}$ martensites and deformation twins, resulting in shorter fatigue lives than the alloy containing 5wt%Al. In fatigue crack propagation test, the alloy without Al showed the highest crack propagation rate. The fracture surface of the alloy without Al was flat, whereas that of the alloy with 2% or 5%Al was rough. The ${\Delta}K_{th}$, values of the alloys with 0%, 2% and 5%Al were 16, 17.5, and $20.5MPam^{1/2}$, respectively.
