The effect of the grafting ratio on the mechanical property and adhesion property of the grafted EPDM modified with methacrylic acid (MA) was investigated. The storage modulus of MA-grafted EPDM was maintained higher than that of cross-linked EPDM vulcanizate by sulfur, but it was observed that the storage modulus was decreased at elevated temperature because of the weakened secondary bonding. When the functional group for hydrogen bonding was introduced in EPDM, it had excellent mechanical properties by the aggregate between grafted EPDM molecules and crystallinity of MA. The bonding strength between EPDM and other rubbers was very low because EPDM has nonpolar property and low molecular interaction to others. The bonding strength was increased as increasing grafting ratio and it was excellent enough to break the rubber during the peel test when the grafting ratio was more than 10%.
Thermotropic liquid crystal polymer (TLCP)-reinforced poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) composites were prepared by melt processing. The improvement in the mechanical properties and the processability of the PBT/TLCP composites was attributed to the reinforcing effect by TLCP phase and its well distribution in the PBT matrix. X-ray diffraction results demonstrated that a slow cooling process leads to the thicker lamellar structures and the formation of more regular crystallites in the composites. The incorporation of TLCP improves not only the tensile strength and flexural modulus but also the heat distortion temperature (HDT) of the PBT/TLCP composites. The HDT values of the composites were dependent on TLCP content. The improvement in the HDT values of the PBT/TLCP composites may be explained in terms with the increased flexural modulus, the development of more regular crystalline structures, and the enhancement of the ability of the composites to sustain the storage modulus by TLCP phase. In addition, the simple additivity rule makes it possible to predict the HDT values of the PBT/TLCP composites.
Rheological behavior of commercial hot pepper-soybean paste (HPSP) was evaluated in small amplitude oscillatory and steady shear tests. Storage modulus (G'), loss modulus (G"), and complex viscosity (${\eta}^*$) as a function of angular frequency (${\omega}$), and shear stress (${\sigma}$) as a function of shear rate (${\gamma}$) data were obtained for 5 commercial HPSP samples. HPSP samples at $25^{\circ}C$ exhibited a non-Newtonian, shear-thinning flow behavior with high yield stresses and their flow behaviors were described by power law, Casson, and Herschel-Bulkley models. Time-dependent flow properties were also described by the Weltman, Hahn, and Figoni & Shoemaker models. Apparent viscosity over the temperature range of $5-35^{\circ}C$ obeyed the Arrhenius temperature relationship with activation energies (Ea) ranging 18.3-20.1 kJ/mol. Magnitudes of G' and G" increased with an increase in ${\omega}$, while ${\eta}^*$ decreased. G' values were higher than G" over the most of the frequency range (0.63-63 rad/sec), showing that they were frequency dependent. Steady shear viscosity and complex viscosity of the commercial HPSP did not fit the Cox-Merz rule.

In this paper, thermo-mechanical and rheological properties of NCPs (Non-Conductive Pastes) depending on silica filler contents and diluent contents were investigated. And then, thermal cycling (T/C) reliability of flip chip assembly using selected NCPs was verified. As the silica filler content increased, thermo-mechanical properties of NCPs were changed. The higher the silica filler content was added, glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and storage modulus at room temperature became higher. While, coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) decreased. On the other hand, rheological properties of NCPs were significantly affected by diluent content. As the diluent content increased, viscosity of NCP decreased and thixotropic index increased. However, the addition of diluent deteriorated thermo-mechanical properties such as modulus, CTE, and $T_g$. Based on these results, three candidates of NCPs with various silica filler and diluent contents were selected as adhesives for reliability test of flip chip assemblies. T/C reliability test was performed by measuring changes of NCP bump connection resistance. Results showed that flip chip assembly using NCP with lower CTE and higher modulus exhibited better T/C reliability behavior because of reduced shear strain in NCP adhesive layer.
Dynamic rheological properties of honeys with invert sugar at different mixing ratios of honey and invert sugar (10/0, 812, and 6/4 ratios) were evaluated at various low temperatures (-15, -10, -5, and $0^{\circ}C$) using a controlled stress rheometer for small-deformation oscillatory measurements. Honey-invert sugar mixtures displayed a liquid-like behavior, with loss modulus (G") predominating over storage modulus (G') (G">>G'), showing the high dependence on frequency (${\omega}$). The magnitudes of G' and G" increased with a decrease in temperature while their predominant increases were noticed at -10 and $-15^{\circ}C$. The greater tan ${\delta}$ values were found at higher temperature and ratio of honey to invert sugar, indicating that the honey samples at subzero temperatures become more viscous with increased ratio of honey to invert sugar and temperature. The time-temperature superposition (TTS) principle was used to bring G" values at various temperatures together into a single master curve. The TTS principle was suitable for the honey samples in the liquid-like state. The progress of viscous property (G") was also described well by the Arrhenius equation with high determination coefficients ($R^2=0.99$). Dynamic rheological properties of honey samples seem to be greatly influenced by the addition of invert sugar.
The purpose of this study is to improve the properties of epoxy resin using the big-sized titanium oxide nanoparticles. The effects of particle weight fraction and shape of sample on the thermal and mechanical properties in titanium oxide reinforced epoxy resin has been investigated. In addition, the effect of particle dispersion situation on the mechanical properties of nanocomposites has been studied. As a result, the Tg was almost same regardless of the content of nanoparticles. Storage modulus increased up to the content of 3wt% particles and then decreased. Tensile strength and modulus of film-shaped sample with 1wt% was higher than the one of pure epoxy, while other composites were not. The tensile strength of dogbone-shaped sample with 1wt% was only higher than the one of pure epoxy, while other composites were lower than the one of pure epoxy. Tensile modulus of dogbone-shaped samples increased with the content of particles.
The effects of native sweet potato starch (NSPS) and sweet potato starch modified by acetylation (MSPS) on dynamic rheological properties of surimi sols were investigated by small-deformation oscillatory measurements. Dynamic frequency sweeps of surimi sols at $10^{\circ}C$ showed that the addition of NSPS and MSPS resulted in a reduction of storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G"). The tan $\delta$ values (ratio of G"/ G') of all samples were in the range of $0.15{\sim}0.54$ over a wide range of frequency, indicating that all surimi sols are more elastic than viscous. The characteristic G' thermograms of surimi sols during heating from 10 to $90^{\circ}C$ were influenced by the addition of starch. The tan $\delta$ values of all samples were maintained nearly constant above $45^{\circ}C$, showing that the G' is proportional to the G" irrespective of starch effects.
Synergistic interactions between xanthan (X) and carob (C) were investigated by studying the linear viscoelastic behavior of X, C, and X/C mixtures at sol and gel states. At the solution state, storage modulus (G') dominates the linear viscoelastic properties of X/C mixtures. The gelation temperature (52 to $57^{\circ}C$) was weakly dependent on the xanthan fraction (${\phi}x$) in the mixture. The ${\phi}x$ also had a strong effect on G' until ${\phi}x=0.5$. The elastic active network concentration (EANC) of X/C gels was estimated from the pseudo-equilibrium modulus. The EANC for systems with ${\phi}x=0.25$, 0.5, 0.75, and 1 at 1% total concentration was 2.3, 4.4, 4.1, and 0.32 (${\times}10^{-3}\;mol/m^3$), respectively. The maximum synergistic effect was observed at about ${\phi}x=0.5$. The G' at the transition state of X/C mixed gel was proportional to ${\omega}^{3/2}$ at ${\omega}$>${\omega}_{tr}$ (the onset transition frequency) compared to the theoretical limit of ${\omega}^{1/2}$.

Rubber materials are extensively used in various machine design application, mainly for vibration/shock/noise control devices. Over the years an enormous effort has been put into developing procedures to provide properties of rubber material for design function. However, there are still a lot of difficulties in the understanding of dynamic characteristics of the rubber components in compression. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of rubber materials for anti-vibration under compression were investigated. Dynamic and static tests for rubber material with 3 different hardness were performed. In dynamic tests, non-resonance method, impedance method, was used to obtain the complex modulus (storage modulus and loss factor) and the effects of static pre-strain on the dynamic characteristics were investigated. Also, a relation equation between linear dynamic and nonlinear static behavior of rubber material was discussed and its usefulness to predict their combined effects was investigated.
In this study. the effects of combined environmental factors on mechanical and thermal analysis properties of graphite/epoxy composites were evaluated through a 2.5KW accelerated environmental aging tester. Environmental factors such as temperature. moisture, and ultraviolet were considered. A xenon-arc lamp was utilized for ultraviolet light. and exposure times of up to 3000 hours were applied. Several types of specimens - tensile, bending, and shear specimens those are warp direction and fill direction were used to investigate the effects of environmental factors on mechanical properties of the composites. The glass fabric $\sharp$650/AP300 was used for the fabrication of specimens. Mechanical degradations for tensile, bending and shear properties were evaluated through a UTM. Also. storage shear modulus. loss shear modulus, and tan $\delta$ were measured as a function of exposure times through a dynamic mechanical analyzer. Finally exposed surfaces of the composites were examined using II scanning electron microscope.
