  • A new approach considering CO2 air pollution constraints in the long-term generation mix is proposed under uncertain circumstances. A characteristic feature of the presented approach in this paper is what effects give the air pollution constraints in long term best generation mix. Best generation mix problem is formulated by linear programming with fuel and construction cost minimization with load growth, reliability (reserve margin rate) and air pollutionconstraints. The proposed method accommodates the operation of pumped-storage generator. It was assumed in this study that the construction planning of the hydro power plants is given separately from the other generation plans. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated by applying to the best generation mix problem of KEPCO-system, which contains nuclear, coal, LNG, oil and pumped-storage hydro plant multi-years.

  • The production costing plays a key role in power system expansion and operations planning especially for the calculation of expected energy, loss of load probability and unserved energy. Therefore, it is crucial to develope a probabilistic production costing algorithm which gives sufficiently precise results within a reasonable computational time. In this respect, a number of methods of solving production simulation have been proposed. In previous paper we proposed the method used Fast Hartley Transform in convolution process with considering only the thermal units. In this paper, the method considering the scheduling of pumped-storage plants and hydro plants with energy constraints is proposed.

  • This study is to analyze the units of flexible high-rise mixed use apartment(Chereville) targeting at Guwidong in Seoul. In order to analyze the different type of units, it is selected 60 unit plans. The results were as followings . 1) It is revealed from the request of residents in regard to the LDK that kitchen and living room are recognized as sharing spaces and thereby, the importance of them grows bigger. 2) The need for storage space appears compared to the Past, and actual residents add new built-in cabinet of drawer in kitchen, diningroom, and balcony. Therefore, the storage planning is needed in order to keep and store life goods in addition to clothing closet.

  • AS/RS(Automated Storage/Retrieval Systems) has inflexibility in change after implementation and its initial cost is very high. Therefore, the proper and correct design of AS/RS is needed at the planning stage. Cost and performance are one of the most important factors in AS/RS design. There is a trade-off relationship between them. Velocity and number of stacker cranes have a deep relationship with performance of AS/RS. In this study, a model and a heuristic algorithm for finding optimal rack volumes and velocities of stacker for design of AS/RS are proposed with a numerical example.

  • This paper derives a newly neveloped analytic optimal condition to minimize the operating cost of a generation system in the aspect of Power System Planning, When the system includes pumped-storage units. The analytic optimal condition is derived by defferentiating the analytic cost function, Which were obtained by assuming the load and generating as Gaussian random variables, with respect to the variations of pumping energy. The condition is resulted in very simple form and various optimization techniques can be used. The simulation results of a case study were compared with the results of the conventional methods to prove the usefulness of the algorithm.

  • As real-time processing of data with large storage space is required in the era of multimedia, disk arrays are generally used as storage subsystems which be able to provide improved I/O performance. To design the cost-effective disk array, it is important to develop performance models which evaluate the disk array performance. Both queueing theory and simulation are applicable as the method of performance evaluation through queueing modeling. But there is a limit to the analytical method using queueing theory due to the characteristics of disk array requests being serviced in the parallel and concurrent manner. So in this paper we evaluate the disk array performance using simulation method which abstract disk array systems in the low level. Performance results were evaluated through simulation, so that mean response time, mean queueing delay, mean service time, mean queue length for disk array requests and utilization, throughput for disk array systems, can be utilized for capacity planning in the phase of disk array design.

  • To ensure that the production system of a factory is efficient, the factory layout design should consider the location and material flow plans of facilities, workshops, and storage areas. Highly productive factories need to have an optimized layout planning process, and a customized design methodology of the production system is a necessity for feasible layout planning. This paper presents a method for designing a layout module's size and shape and provides a heuristic location-allocation algorithm for the modules. The method is implemented and validated using a rich internet application-based platform. The layout design method is based on the leisure ship production process; this method can be used for designing the layout of a new factory or remodeling an existing factory and its production system. In contrast to existing layout methods, the inputs required for the proposed method, such as target products, production processes, and human-resource plans, are simple. This layout design method provides a useful solution for the initial stage of factory design.

  • In line with the worldwide trend toward the protection of natural environment and economic concerns, the steel framed house is suggested for the next industrialized generatiov. In Korea, untrustworthiness of concrete structured apartment has led to the development of alternative building material and technology. POSCO has constructed the model steel house to assess the marketability of steel framed house in Korea. To collect basic data required to design the steel framed house suitable to Korean life pattern and housing needs, professional evaluation of model steel house was conducted. The goal of this study is to propose alternative plan and ideas on the interior space planning based upon the evaluation from women housing professionals. Our analysis reveals that the habitability of steel house is equal or superior to that of traditional houses. But in the interiior sapce planning, the certain aspects of steel houses is not suitable to Korean likfe style: the lack of storage space and utility space, inflexibility of plav. We conclude that given its cost efficiency and environmental concern, steel house has potential to take an important part in future Korean housing.

  • Since the late 20th century, construction companies have developed different brands of apartments while keeping the LOHAS, well-being, ubiquitous, and one-stop-living concepts in mind. From this point of view, this study intends to define the diverse space planning needs of apartment residents. The purpose of this study is to suggest optimum guidelines regarding the subject of space requirements and planning by conducting in-depth interviews of residents whose apartment floor size is between $66m^2$ (20 Pyong) and $165m^2$ (50 Pyong) and whose apartment is less than 5 years old. The major findings were as follows: (1) The shortage of storage space in different types of apartment housing units was found to be a chronic problem. Thus, closet sizes mustbe increased. (2) The size of the master bedroom needs to be decreased, whereas the size of the kitchen and dining room as well as the size of the second and/or third bedroom must be increased. More space is required in common areas occupied by the family and larger closets are needed. Less space is required for the master bedroom.
