차광처리가 더덕의 광합성율과 생육에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Shading Treatments on Photosynthetic rate and Growth in Codonopsis lanceloata Trautv.)

  • 차광처리가 더덕의 생육 및 광합성에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 본 실험을 수행하였던 바, 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 차광처리에 의하여 만장과 엽면적은 증가하였으나, 덩굴 및 잎의 건물증은 감소하였다. 2. 차광처리에 의하여 엽록소함량 및 비엽면적은 증가하였으나, 엽위별 일정한 경향이 없었고 상위엽보다는 하위엽에서그 증가 정도가 컸다. 3. 광합성속도와 기공전도도는 광 강도가 강할수록 또 차광일수가 경과할수록 증가하는 경향이었으며 그 증가 정도는 대체로 하위엽에서 크게 나타났다.

  • 토양수분 부족이 콩식물체의 엽운동, 광합성능, 증산량, 수량 및 관련 형질에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위해서, '단엽콩', '방사콩', '보광콩', '무한콩'을 비닐하우스 내에 폿트 재배에서 2주간 단수처리하여 실험을 하였다. 1. 광합성능은 광량(0.887$^{**}$ ), 기공전도율(0.788$^{**}$ ) 및 엽온(0.744$^{**}$)과 고도의 유의적인 정 상관이 있었다. 2. 1일중 광량과 온도가 증가함에 따라 콩의 복엽중 중앙의 소엽은 측렬의 소엽에 비해 더 빨리 엽운동이 시작되고 광합성능이 높은 반면에 수광량, 엽온은 다소 낮았다. 3. 한발구에 비해 관수구의 광량은 358 umole $m^{-2}$ $s^{-1}$, 기공전도율은 0.2 mole $m^{-2}$ $s^{-1}$, 엽온은 9$^{\circ}C$, 증산량 3.7 mole $m^{-2}$ , 광합성능은 8.5 $CO_2$, $\mu$mole $m^{-2}$ $s^{-1}$이 각각 높았다. 4. 관수구에 비해 한발구의 수량 및 관련 형질이 다양하게 감소되었다 ; 개체당 건물중 8%, 개체당 근류중 7%, 근중 14%, 간장 3%, 분지수 7%, 경태 8%, 개체당 협수 17%, 개체당 립중 17%가 각각 감소되었다.

돈분침출수 처리에 의한 이태리포플러와 현사시나무의 생리적 특성 및 항산화효소 활성 (Physiological Characteristics and Antioxidant Enzyme Activity of Populus euramericana and Populus alba x Populus glandulosa under Livestock Waste Leachate Treatment)

  • 이태리 포플러와 현사시를 대상으로 야외에서 돈분침출수를 관수하고 광합성특성, 엽록소함량, 증산량, 세포내 이산화탄소농도, ascorbate peroxidase, glutathione reductase 효소의 활성을 조사, 분석하였다. 이태리 포플러의 경우 엽록소 함량, 광합성률, 증산률, 기공전도도, 엽육세포내 $CO_2$ 농도가 돈분침출수 처리구가 대조구에 비해 높은 경향을 보였다. 또한 현사시의 엽록소 함량은 돈분처리구에서 대조구와 비슷하였지만 광합성률과 증산률, 기공전도도가 돈분침출수 처리구에서 대조구에 비해 약간 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 이로 미루어 이태리포플러를 돈분침출수가 유출되는 지역의 phytoremediation으로 활용하면 좋을 것으로 판단된다.

Effects on Net Photosynthesis in Field-Grown Hot Peppers Responding to the Increased CO2 and Temperature

  • The increased $CO_2$ and temperature (700 ${\mu}$mol.$mol^{-1}$ $CO_2$ and $30^{\circ}C$) was compared with ambient growth conditions (400 ${\mu}$mol.$mol^{-1}$ $CO_2$ and $25^{\circ}C$) in hot pepper. Gas exchange measurements, including net photosynthesis ($P_{net}$) and stomatal conductance ($g_s$), were taken according to treatment in fields of peppers grown in Suwon and Asan during 2008. The increased treatment $P_{net}$ by 35-45% throughout the season and was statistically significant in t-tests (p < 0.001); however, it did not significantly affect $g_s$. In addition, the gas exchange parameters in sun and shade leaves were measured. The difference between the sun and shade leaves was much greater than that between the elevated and ambient treatments, especially at harvest. Four commercial cultivars of hot pepper, Chunhasangsa, Ryukang, Manitta, and Olympic, were also compared by ANOVA. Chunhasangsa had the highest $P_{net}$, which decreased by 30% from the vegetative to the harvest stage. Based on a factorial design, the effect of the increased $CO_2$ and temperature was assessed based on the temperature, $CO_2$, and their interaction effects. Orthogonal contrasts showed that the effects of temperature on $P_{net}$ and $g_s$ were significant, whereas $CO_2$ and their interactions were not.

Growth, Physiological Responses and Ozone Uptake of Five Betula Species Exposed to Ozone

  • The objectives of this study were to examine the physiological responses to ozone and to measure ozone uptake rates of Betula species exposed to relatively high concentration of pollutants. At the end of the growing season, photosynthesis, pigments contents, antioxidants (SOD and GR) and ozone uptake rates were measured or estimated at the leaves of five Betula species (Betula costata, B. davurica, B. platyphylla var. japonica, B. schmidtii and B. ermanii) exposed to 100ppb ozone concentration. On the termination of the experiment, growth effects were determined by measuring leaf area and dry weights of leaf, stem and root. Ozone treatment showed the significant reduction the leaf area and dry weight of four Betula species, except for B. ermanii. Shoot / root (SR) ratio of five species represented two different types. SR ratio of B. costata and B. davurica were lower than control, in contrast, SR ratio of B. platyphylla var. japonica, B. schimidtii and B. emani, were higher than that of control. The photosynthetic responses of five species were different in responses to ozone exposure. Four species, except for B. emanii, maintained or increased the stomatal conductance, but B. emanii decreased both stomatal conductance and photosynthesis. SOD activities of five species decreased by the ozone exposure, especially B. ermanii showed the largest reduction, GR activities of B. platyphylla var. japonica and B. schmidtii increased, B. costata and B. emanii decreased. Instantaneous ozone uptake rate was the highest at the leaves of B. ermanii and B. costata, ozone uptake per seedling was the highest at the leaf of B. schmidtii and B. emanii. It was concluded that B. costata, B. davurica and B. platyphylla var. japonica, appeared the growth reduction and visible ozone injury, were sensitive species to ozone, and B. schmidtii with the increased antioxidant activity and B. ermanii without the growth reduction were relatively resistant species to high ozone concentration at the early growing stage.

수분 스트레스가 담배의 잎 수분 포텐셜, 광합성 및 뿌리발달에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Water Stress on Leaf Water Potential, Photosynthesis and Root Development in Tobacco Plant)

  • Development of shoot and root, leaf water potential and photosynthetic rate affected by water stress in early growing stage of tobacco were surveyed to interpret stress response in terms of plant physiological and agricultural aspects. The growth of shoot and root was highly suppressed by water stress and the difference in dry weight by rewatering was smaller in root than in shoot. The total root length was highly decreased by water stress and the lengths of root for water stress and non-stress were 74m and 84m, respectively, after rewatering. The root growth treated by water stress was increased between 2nd and 3rd day after treatment indicating that temporary water stress at early growing stage might have increased of root zone activity for early growth stage. The leaf water potentials were decreased to -7.63MPa, -9.47MPa, -11.89MPa, -13MPa at the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th day by water stress. The relative water contents were 75%, 62% and 57% at the 3rd, 4th and 5th day after treatment. Photosynthesis was reduced largely by water stress. The photosynthetic rate after treatment at 2nd day and 3rd day was dropped to 18.15$\mu$mol. $CO_2$/$m^2$ㆍsec$^{-1}$ and 9.35$\mu$mol. $CO_2$/$m^2$ㆍsec$^{-1}$. It was never recovered to the normal, even after rewatering. Stomatal conductance had been reduced since 2nd day after treatment and increased after rewatering.

인산시비가 고추 플러그묘의 생장과 광합성에 미치는 영향 (Phosphate Fertilizer Influences Growth and Photosynthesis of Pepper Seedlings)

  • 풋고추 플러그 육묘시에 인산의 최적 시비농도를 구명하기 위하여 32구 플러그 트레이에 TK2를 채워서 종자를 파종한 다음 인산을 농도별로 처리하여 식물체의 생육과 광합성에 미치는 효과를 조사하였다. ‘녹광’과 ‘꽈리’ 두 품종의 생장은 표준 농도인 1.0배로 처리하였을 때에 엽면적과 초장의 생장이 가장 촉진 되었으며, 1.5배 이상의 농도에서는 농도가 높을수록 생육이 억제되었다. 반면 식물체의 총 건물중은 인산의 농도가 증가할수록 무거웠다. 엽록소의 함량은 ‘꽈리’ 보다 ‘녹광’이 더 높았는데, 0.5배 이상의 농도에서는 농도간의 차이가 없었다. 광합성율은‘녹광’의 경우에는 1.0배, ‘꽈리’의 경우에는 0.5배의 농도로 시비하였을 때에 가장 높았으며, 식물체의 생장과 마찬가지로 고 농도의 인산시비는 두 품종 모두 광합성을 억제시켰다. 기공전도도와 수분증발율은 ‘녹광’의 경우에는 1.9배까지 인산의 농도를 높일수록 증가하였으나, 1.0배 이상의 고농도에서는 감소하였다.

차광처리가 잔대의 광합성 활성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Shading Treatments on Photosynthetic Activity of Adenophora triphylla var. japonicum)

  • 본 연구는 네 가지 서로 다른 비음처리구(무처리, 25%, 50%, 70% 차광처리)에서 2년간 생육한 잔대 묘목의 광합성 특성을 분석하였다. 엽록소 a, b 함량과 마찬가지로 총 엽록소 함량은 처리구간에서 유의적인 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 광합성능력은 50%와 75% 차광처리구 보다 무처리구와 25% 처리구가 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 무처리구(전광조건) 하에서 생육한 잔대 묘목은 가장 높은 광합성 능력, 기공전도도, 엽육 내 $CO_2$ 농도를 나타냈으며, 수분이용효율은 50%와 75% 차광처리구가 무처리구(전광조건) 보다 더 높은 것으로 나타났다.

Changes in Growth Characteristics of Seven Foliage Plants Grown in an Indoor Bio-Wall System Depending on Irrigation Cycle

  • In order to increase the indoor air purification effect of plants, plants need to be placed on 5-10% of indoor spaces. To increase the density and utilization of plants in indoor spaces, studies on bio-wall, a vertical green wall system, have been recently conducted. The purpose of this study was to investigate the growth characteristics of 7 indoor plants introduced to the system and their rooting zones at different irrigation cycles. This study was conducted to investigate a proper irrigation cycle for the continuous maintenance of bio-wall systems. The conditions of their growth environment were maintained as follows: light intensity, 20-50 μmol·m-2·s-1 PPFD; and temperature, 20 - 25℃. For fertilization, Hyponex diluted with water at the ratio of 1:1,000 was supplied to plants. Irrigation was treated at intervals of 1, 3, 5, and 7 days for 1 hour at a time. As a result, there was no significant difference in the growth of plants between different irrigation cycles. Dieffenbachia 'Marianne' showed a significant decrease in the number of leaves at the irrigation cycle of 7 days. In addition, the chlorophyll content was relatively low at the irrigation cycle of 7 days. In terms of the color of leaves, a decrease in L value and b value and an increase in a value were observed, resulting in changes in brightness and color. Ardisia pusilla 'Variegata' showed a slightly higher photosynthetic activity and stomatal conductance when it was watered every day and once per 5 days, while Epipremnum aureum showed a relatively higher photosynthetic activity and stomatal conductance at the irrigation cycle of 3 days. In the case of root activity, it was found that the longer irrigation cycle, the higher root activity compared to daily irrigation. The development of roots of Peperomia clusiifolia was promoted by watering at long intervals. However, in the case of Aglaonema 'Siam-Aurora', the total number of roots decreased at the interval of 7 days. In conclusion, a proper irrigation cycle for the sustainable maintenance of vertical bio-wall systems seems to be 3 days.

The Possible Participation of the Mesophyll on Stomatal Opening

  • Many researchers have been studied with guard cell protoplasts and detached epidermis as they think that properly stabilized protoplasts and detached epidermis retain many of the properties of intact guard cells. However, some studies have shown that stomata in detached epidermis behave differently, both quantitatively and qualitatively, from those in the intact leaf. Stomata in the intact leaf are very sensitive to environmental factors such as light, $CO_2$ and osmotic stress, but stomata in detached epidermis are less sensitive to these factors than those in the intact leaf. The clearest evidence to suggest the different response between detached epidermis and intact leaf obtained from the experiments with heavy metal, cadmium. 3-weeks old Commelina. communis was transferred to and grown in Hoagland solution in the presence or absence of 5 mM $Cd^{2+}$ for 4 days. The application of $Cd^{2+}$ showed about 70% inhibition of stomatal conductance when measured at various light intensity (100-1,000 $\mu$mole $m^{-2}s^{-1}). However, stomata in detached epidermis floated on an incubation medium containing 100 $\mu$M $Cd^{2+}$ opened to a degree of about 8.38 fm, but the stomata treated with no cadmium opened to 3.74 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. These results were unexpected as the intact leaf grown in a Hoagland solution containing cadmium showed very negative physiological responses. These results showed that stomata in detached epidermis and in the intact leaf could respond reversely. Therefore, it is possible that we now misunderstand how stomata open in real natural condition.
