In order to meet stringent future emission regulations, especially to reduce Particulate Matter (PM) and NOX, stoichiometric diesel combustion technology with a piezo group-hole nozzle injector is being researched for reduction harmful emissions. A new nozzle layout, namely a group-hole nozzle, which has one group of small orifices with a wide spray included angle was investigated to improve the efficiency of stoichiometric diesel combustion. From this point of view, the group-hole nozzle suggested by Dense Co. is an attractive candidate method applicable to stoichiometric diesel combustion. The group-hole nozzle concept is to reduce the injector nozzle hole diameters without sacrificing spray penetration by closely locating two holes. Experimental studies have proven that the spray from group-hole nozzles have similar spray penetration to that of a single hole with equivalent overall nozzle hole area, but the spray drop sizes (SMD) are reduced, aiding vaporization and mixing.
The explosion limit is one of the major combustion properties used to determine the fire and explosion hazards of the flammable substances. The explosion limit of organic acids have been shown to be correlated the heat of combustion and the chemical stoichiometric coefficients. In this study, the lower explosion and upper explosion limits of organic acids were predicted by using the heat of combustion and chemical stoichiometric coefficients. The values calculated by the proposed equations agreed with literature data within a few percent. From the given results, using the proposed methodology, it is possible to predict the explosion limits of the other organic acids.
The explosion limit is one of the major combustion properties used to determine the fire and explosion hazards of the flammable substances. The explosion limit of aldehydes have been shown to be correlated the heat of combustion and the chemical stoichiometric coefficients. In this study, the lower explosion and upper explosion limits of aldehydes were predicted by using the heat of combustion and chemical stoichiometric coefficients. The values calculated by the proposed equations agreed with literature data above determination coefficient 0.99. From the given results, using the proposed methodology, it is possible to predict the explosion limits of the aldehydes.
The combustion test used DTF was performed to obtain the characteristics of NOx emission and reduction. In this test, major factor of NOx emission was a stoichiometric air ratio. At the onset of combustion to be rich oxygen, NOx was produced rapidly. Optimum condition for NOx reduction was formed under about AR:0.7 in the combustion test of Alaska coal. Investigations were undertaken with 200KW(th) test combustor. In combustion test, the major variables were coal feed ratio of center/outer, stoichiometric air ratio at the onset of combustion. The lowest NOx emission, 182ppm(6% O2 base), was achieved at about AR:0.6 of the first combustion stage with low NOx burner. Also, unburned carbon content of char collected in this combustion condition was about 1wt%.

Nitrogen oxides ($NO_x$) are air pollutants which are generated from the combustion of fossil fuels. Stage combustion is an effective method to reduce $NO_x$ emissions. The effects of $NO_x$ reduction by stage combustion in a pilot scale combustor(6.6kW) have been investigated using propane gas flames laden with NH$_{3}$ as Fuel-N. The results in this study are follows; (1) $NO_x$ emissions are dependent on the reducing environment of fuel-rich zone regardless of total air ratio. The maximum $NO_x$ reduction is at the stoichiometric ratio of 0.8 to 0.9 in the reducing zone. (2) $NO_x$ reduction is maximum when burnout air is injected at the point where the oxygen in reducing zone is almost consumed. (3) $NO_x$ reduction is dependent upon the temperature of reducing zone with best effect above 950.deg. C in the reducing zone. (4) The fuel stage combustion is more effective to reduce $NO_x$ formation in the wide range of stoichiometric ratio than two stage combustion. (5) The results of this study could be utilized mainly in a design strategy for low $NO_x$ emission from the combustion of high fuel-nitrogen in energy sources ratio than as an indication of the absolute levels of $NO_x$ which can be achieved by stage combustion techniques in large scale facilities.
Explosion limit is one of the major combustion properties used to determine the fire and explosion hazards of the flammable substances. In this study, the lower explosion limit(LEL) and upper explosion limit(UEL) of ethers were predicted by using the heat of combustion and stoichiometric coefficients. The values calculated by the proposed equations agreed with literature data within a few percent. From the given results, using the proposed methodology, it is possible to predict the explosion limits of the other flammable ethers.
The combustion process was applied to synthesize the LiAlO2 powder with high specific surface area and pure crystalline ${\gamma}$-phase. For the combustion synthesis of LiAlO2 which is a binary-component oxide in-cluding lithium and aluminum ions the mixture of citric acid and urea with stoichiometric composition was selected as a promising fuel. The highest combustion temperature was measured in the reaction using the mixed fuel with a stoichiometric composition. The synthesized powder was very fine and its specific surface area was more than 15 m2/g.

Self flue gas recirculation flow is an effective method for low NOx emission in a regenerative low NOx burner. The object of this study is to analyze self flue gas recirculating flow by varying the jet velocity of the combustion air. Fuel and air flow rates are fixed and combustion air jet nozzle diameters are 13, 6.5 and 5mm. The stoichiometric line is obtained from the concentration of fuel using the acetone PLIF technique. It is found that self flue gas recirculating flow is entrained into that line using the two color PIV technique. As the jet velocity of combustion air is increased, the flue gas entrainment rate into the stoichiometric line is increased. This result suggests that NOx emission can be reduced due to the effects of flue gas lowering the flame temperature.

Ultra lean combustion with stratified air-fuel mixture is one of the methods that can improve fuel economy of gasoline engines. The aim of this study is to show that how much fuel economy is improved and what are differences in engine control of the ultra lean combustion compared with stoichiometric combustion. In this study, the BMW N53 GDI engine, which is one of ultra lean combustion GDI engines introduced in the market recently, was tested at various engine operating conditions. Results indicated that fuel consumption rates were improved by 11.9~25.8% by the ultra lean combustion compared with stoichiometric combustion. It was also found that multiple fuel injection, multiple spark, early intake valve opening, and large vlave overlap duration were the features of the ultra lean combustion for combustion stability and emission improvement.
In this study, the solution combustion method was employed to synthesize stoichiometric mullite, and hence the attrition process was employed to prepare ultrafine mullite particles with nano size. The thermal decomposition behavior and partial pressure of equilibrium species of both oxidizer and fuel were considered during solution combustion process. The synthesized product was mullite phase with 40 nm crystalline size, and the alumina contents of the product by TEM/EDS quantity analysis was 3.12$\pm$04 mole. The result showed that the synthesized mullite was almost close to the it's stoichiometric composition. For attrition process, the dispersion behavior of the mullite suspension was controlled and was comminuted with the condition of 800 rpm for 4 hours using 0.3 mm zirconia ball media. As a result of comminution, the mean particle size was 80 nm.
