In this study, circular thin-walled reinforced high strength concrete-filled steel tube (RHSCFST) stub columns with various tube thicknesses (i.e., 1.8, 2.5 and 3.0mm) and reinforcement ratios (i.e., 0, 1.6%, 2.4% and 3.2%) were fabricated to explore the influence of these factors on the axial compressive behavior of RHSCFST. The obtained test results show that the failure mode of RHSCFST transforms from outward buckling and tearing failure to drum failure with the increasing tube thickness. With the tube thickness and reinforcement ratio increased, the ultimate load-carrying capacity, compressive stiffness and ductility of columns increased, while the lateral strain in the stirrup decreased. Comparisons were also made between test results and the existing codes such as AIJ (2008), BS5400 (2005), ACI (2019) and EC4 (2010). It has been found that the existing codes provide conservative predictions for the ultimate load-carrying capacity of RHSCFST. Therefore, an accurate model for the prediction of the ultimate load-carrying capacity of circular thin-walled RHSCFST considering the steel reinforcement is developed, based on the obtained experimental results. It has been found that the model proposed in this study provides more accurate predictions of the ultimate load-carrying capacity than that from existing design codes.
In order to investigate the seismic performance of regionally confined concrete circular column with trapezoid stirrups (TRCCC) under high axial compression ratio, the confinement mechanism of regionally confined concrete was analyzed. Three regionally confined concrete circular columns with trapezoid stirrups were designed, and low cyclic loading tests were conducted at three different axial compression ratios (0.9, 1.1, 1.25) to study the failure mode, hysteresis curve, skeleton curve, deformation capacity, stiffness degradation and energy dissipation capacity of the specimens. The results indicate that the form of regional confinement concrete provides more uniform confinement to the normal confinement, and the confinement efficiency at the edges is 1.4 times that of normal confined concrete. The ductility coefficients of the specimens were all greater than 3 under high axial compression ratios, and the stiffness and horizontal bearing capacity increased with the increase of axial compression ratio. Therefore, it is recommended that the code of design specifications can appropriately relax the axial compression ratio limit for TRCCC. Finally, the spacing between stirrups of TRCCC was analyzed using ABAQUS software. The results showed that as the spacing between the stirrups decreased, the cracking load and peak load of TRCCC increased continuously, but the rate of increase decreases.
The seismic performance of the ordinary steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns has no significant improvement compared to the reinforced concrete (RC) columns mainly because I, H or core cross-shaped steel cannot provide sufficient confinement for core concrete. Two improved SRC columns by constructing with new-type shaped steel were put forward on this background, and they were named as enlarging cross-shaped steel and diagonal cross-shaped steel for short. The seismic behavior and carrying capacity of new-type SRC columns have been researched theoretically and experimentally, while the shear behavior remains unclear when the new-type columns are joined onto SRC beams. This paper presents an experimental study to investigate the shear capacity of new-type SRC joints. For this purpose, four new-type and one ordinary SRC joints under low reversed cyclic loading were tested, and the failure patterns, load-displacement hysteretic curves, joint shear deformation and steel strain were also observed. The ultimate shear force of joint specimens was calculated according to the beam-end counterforce, and effects of steel shape, load angel and structural measures on shear capacity of joints were analyzed. The test results indicate that: (1) the new-type SRC joints display shear failure pattern and has higher shear capacity than the ordinary one; (2) the oblique specimens have good bearing capacity if designed reasonably; and (3) the two proposed construction measures have little effect on the shear capacity of SRC joints embedded with diagonal cross-shaped steel. Based on the mechanism observed from the test, the formulas for calculating ultimate shear capacity considering the main factors (steel web, stirrup and axial compression ratio) were derived, and the calculated results agreed well with the experimental and simulated data.

In this study, one-way shear tests were performed to investigate the shear capacity of amorphous steel fiber-reinforced concrete slabs. Primary test parameters were the shear reinforcing method(Stirrups or amorphous steel fibers) and shear reinforcement ratio(0.25 and 0.5%). A series of four one-way slab specimens including a specimen without shear reinforcement and three specimens with shear reinforcements(stirrup, 0.25%, and 0.5% amorphous steel fibers) were tested. The test results showed that 0.25% amorphous steel fibers improved the shear capacity, but 0.5% amorphous steel fibers did not improve the shear capacity compared to the specimen with conventional shear reinforcement of 0.25%. Additional study is needed to understand the variation of shear capacity according to fiber volume fraction.

Fatigue fracture of reinforced concrete structures are characterized by considerably larger strains and microcracking as compared to fracture of R.C. structures under static loading. The strain of stirrup is increased suddenly by the occuring of inclined crack and the average strain ${\epsilon}_{\omega}$ of all stirrups in a structure at maximum load increase approximately in proportion to log N. The structures critical in longitudinal reinforcement seemed to have an endurance limit of 60~70 percent of static ultimate strengths for 1,000,000 cycles. In this test, the average fatigue strength at 1,000,000 cycles for all structures tested was approximately 65 percent of the static ultimate strength.
This study was to investigate structural behavior of composite structure beams composed of end-RC. center-Steel according to respective reinforcing method for connection zone composed of different materials (SRC) while attaching main bars on steel-flange by welding. The main reinforcing methods are as follows ; non-reinforcing, vertical shear reinforcing (type-stirrup), inclined reinforcing(type-x), horizontal reinforcing(type-web, 0.3L), double horizontal reinforcing (type-web, 0.3L), vertical reinforcing (type-flange, 0.3L). Consequently, It showed little difference in structural properties like ductility and strength according to the attaching method of main bars. For Maximizing the structural properties of composite beam, the most effective methods were vertical reinforcing one and double horizontal reinforcing one.
This paper as Part II of the present study deals with the verification of the new truss model that has been conceptually derived and formulated in Part I. Since the model includes the arch coefficient-$\alpha$, the characteristics of this coefficient are examined, and it appears that the coefficient-$\alpha$ is a function of a/d, $\rho$ and $\rho_v$ After transforming the model Into a sectional approach, the formula for predicting the stirrup stress, the longitudinal steel force, and ultimate shear strength are derived. Then, the equations are applied to the test specimens available in literatures, and the predicted values are shown to be in excellent agreement with the experimental results.

After the collapse of the World Trade Center in september 11, 2001 and due to the frequent fire-caused damages of buildings during earthquake attacks, social concerns have been increased for the fire proof of the structural members of buildings. Recently, researches have been conducted to improve the fire resistance for building members not by the traditional ways but by utilizing the fire-resisting characteristics of reinforced concrete and structural characteristics of H-steel. In this paper, laboratory tests were conducted in room temperature to investigate the structural performance of the composite beams, which were developed to improve the fire resistance, comprising with concrete incasement between upper and lower flanges of H steel. From the experimental results, the displacement ductility factors of $6\~8$ were obtained. The difference of flexural behavior ol H steel-partial concrete incased composite beams with various composite details seems to be minor. The amount of longitudinal rebars is the most influential factor for the flexural strength of the composite beams. Therefore, if this type of composite beams are selected for designing a building located in moderate seismic lone, identical beam size could be used in several stories of the building.
Strengthening of existing old structures has traditionally been accomplished by using conventional materials and techniques, viz., externally bonded steel plates, steel or concrete jackets, etc. Alternatively, fibre reinforced polymer composite (FRPC) products started being used to overcome problems associated with conventional materials in the mid 1950s because of their favourable engineering properties. Effectiveness of FRPC materials has been demonstrated through extensive experimental research throughout the world in the last two decades. However there is a need to use refined analytical tools to simulate response of strengthened system. In this paper, an attempt has been made to develop a numerical model of strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) beams with FRPC laminates. Material models for RC beams strengthened with FRPC laminates are described and verified through a nonlinear finite element (FE) commercial code, with the help of available experimental data. Three dimensional (3D) FE analysis has been performed by assuming perfect bonding between concrete and FRPC laminate. A parametric study has also been performed to examine effects of various parameters like fibre type, stirrup's spacing, etc. on the strengthening system. Through numerical simulation, it has been shown that it is possible to predict accurately the flexural response of RC beams strengthened with FRPC laminates by selecting an appropriate material constitutive model. Comparisons are made between the available experimental results in literature and FE analysis results obtained by the present investigators using load-deflection and load-strain plots as well as ultimate load of the strengthened beams. Furthermore, evaluation of crack patterns from FE analysis and experimental failure modes are discussed at the end.
An experimental study was performed to investigate the earthquake resistance of the beam-column connections as a part of a precast concrete moment-resisting frame that uses precast concrete U-shaped shells for the beams. Five full-scale precast concrete specimens and one conventional monolithic concrete specimen were tested under cyclic loading. The parameters for this test were the reinforcement ratio, stirrup spacing, and end-strengthening details of the precast beam shell. The test results showed that regardless of the test parameters, the precast concrete beam-column connections showed good load-carrying capacity and deformation capacity, which were comparable to those of conventional monolithic concrete specimen. However, at large deformations, the beam-column connections of the precast concrete specimens were subjected to severe strength degradation due to diagonal shear cracks and the bond-slip of re-bars at the joint region. For this reason, the energy dissipation capacity and stiffness of the precast concrete specimens were significantly less than those of the cast-in-place specimen.
