주위온도조건이 스터링 극저온냉동기의 성능에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the environmental temperature on the performance of the Stirling cryocooler)

  • The Stirling cryocoolers have been widely used for the cooling of the infrared detector(InSb, HgCdTe, and etc,) and HTS(High Temperature Superconductor) to the cryogenic temperature. The monobloc Stirling cryocoolers with the rotary compressor are applicable to the cooling device for the compact mobile thermal imaging system, because the cryocoolers have the compact structure and light weight. The typical performance factors of the Stirling cryocooler are the cool-down time, cooling capacity at the desired temperature (80 K), the electric input power and COP. The above performance factors depend on the operating conditions such as the charging pressure of the helium gas, the thermal environment and etc.. In this study, the effects of the thermal environment (temperature of 241, 293, and 333 K) on the performance of the cryocooler were investigated by experiments. The results show the effects of the temperature of the thermal environment on the cooling capacity and input power.

  • The Linear compressor is widely used in Stirling cryocooler for cooling of infrared sensor. The performance of Stirling cryocooler was mainly depending on how much pressure difference can be generated by compressor. The gap between cylinder and piston should be minimized to get high pressure difference, but too small gap cause failure in the cryocooler. In this study, the leakage rate through gap was investigated by using CFD method and simple thermodynamic relation. The results show compression ratio is decreased and leakage rate increased according to increasing gap.

  • A free piston and free displacer(FPFD) Stirling cryocooler for cooling infrared and cryo-sensors is currently under development at KIMM(Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials). Our coolers are specifically designed to work in the thermal imaging device and to meet requirements such as cooling capacity, COP and high reliability. In this work, Stirling cryocooler is designed, manufactured and fabricated, and performance characteristics are investigated. This cooler delivers approximately 0.5W cooling at 77K for 30W ∼ 40W of input power from AC power supply. And, after the climate performance and reliability for the cryocooler is discussed, operating test without cooling load at the cold end is performed.

  • The Stirling cryocooler with helium refrigerant has been widely used for the cooling of the infrared detector, and the alternatives of the helium in the Stirling cryocooler are nitrogen and hydrogen gas. In this study, the performance experiment of the small FPFD(Free Piston and Free Piston) type Stirling cooler and the moving coil type, dual acting linear compressor was performed when the nitrogen and helium is used for the working fluid The results show that the nitrogen refrigerant has small cooling capacity compared with the helium, but the performance characteristics of the linear compressor does not greatly changed.

  • A free piston and free displacer (FPFD) Stilting cryocooler for the cooling infrared and cryo-sensor is currently under development at Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials. In this study, the dynamic characteristics of the displacer in the expansion space of the Stirling cooler was investigated by experiment. The experimental results show that the Stirling cryocooler has maximum cooling capacity at the certain relation between operating frequency and natural frequency of the displacer and the operating frequency of the Stirling crycooler should be determined by natural frequency of the linear compressor and displacer.

  • A cryogenic stirling cooler is currently under development at Korea Institute of Industrial Technology(KITECH). Cryocooler has many kinds of types. The stirling cooler is the most appropriate one for under 80K with the trait of long life cycle and small size. The stirling cooler uses helium as a working fluid. Helium is pressurized by the linear compressor which is driver by linear motor. In this paper, the change of pressure and volume is studied by the isothermal analysis method. It is necessary to investigate the optimized pressure to meets the highest COP. The compressor's piston and expender's displacer interact according to the working fluid's pressure level and the phase difference. This paper presents the relation between the initial pressure and the work of cryocooler. By that results, we can predict the performance of linear compressor.

  • The needs for the cryocooler which has high reliability and long MTTF are increased in the military and commercial thermal imaging system The gas contamination wear, leakage of the working fluid, fatigue and etc. have the significant effects on the reliability and MTTF(Mean Time To Failure) or MTBF(Mean Time Between Failure) of the Stirling cryocooler. In the KIMM, the Stilting cryocooler with the linear compressor was released after the several performance tests were performed. This paper describe the experimental facility for the MTTF evaluation and some typical results of the Stilling cryocooler.

  • Design of Reverse Stirling Cycle based refrigerator can be predicted by Schmidt theory as a useful tool and by experiment it is found that for practical purposes the power and efficiency predicted by this analysis are about 35% of the actual values. Therefore, appropriate provision is to be made for getting the realistic result with the minimum deviation. The present paper first investigates the suitability of application of Schmidt design analysis for standard ZIF-1002 and PLN-106 Single cylinder Cryogenerator model. As the result is found to be optimistic, the same design procedure is applied for the design of a separate Cryogenerator for generating a cooling effect which is sufficient to produce 7 kg per hour liquid nitrogen using an indigenous condenser of 80% effectiveness. The paper describes all the details of the design methodologies and relevant results are found to be satisfactory.

  • The pulse tube cooler as an alternative of Stirling, G-M or VM cooler to overcome the requirement from the various application fields is described. The necessity of the object oriented cooler development is explained to realize the cryocooler of more energy-efficient, more reliable, more compact and less expensive than what is currently available commercially.
