  • This paper considers the nonlinear direct spectrum method to estimate seismic performance of mixed building structures without iterative computations, given dynamic property $T_1$ from stiffness skeleton curve and nonlinear pseudo acceleration $A_{1y}$ and/or ductility ratio $\mu$ from response spectrum. Nonlinear response history analysis has been performed and analysed with various earthquakes for evaluation of correctness and confidence of nonlinear direct spectrum method.

  • Natural rubber was filled with 8 commercial carbon blacks covering range of rubber-grade products at different levels of filler loadings in order to investigate physical compound and vulcanizate properties. It was found that the curves of rubber property vs filler loading of both uncured compounds and vulcanizates can be superposed to one single master curve by introducing an effective volume fraction which is based on CDBP. The effective volume fraction, $V_{EFF}$ was utilized to explain the variation of the stiffness of all rubber compounds. The surface area-corrected effective volume fraction, V', was utilized to explain the formation of bound rubber, rebound and lambourn wear.

  • A 3-dimensional helical rod finite element is devloped for the dynamic analysis of cylindrical springs. Element matrices are formulated using the Galerkin's method, and an exact static deflection curve is used as a shape function. Because the resultant mass and stiffness matrices of the model are symmetric, effective direct solution method can easily be applied for analysing dynamic behavior of springs. The model is used to analyze the dynamic characteristics of a typical automotive valve spring. The effectiveness of the developed helical rod element is verified by comparing the results of the proposed method with those of a classical theory and experiments. The helical element developed in this study is superior to a straight beam element and a 2-dimensional curved beam element for this problem.

  • The physical properties of the spatial model, mass, stiffness and damping matrix, can be defined by a specific natural frequency, damping ratio and mode shape. These modal parameters can be determined from a set of frequency response function(FRF) measured by exciting the structure and measuring the responses at various points around the structure. In this paper, The Transfer Matrix is obtained by experimental modal analysis for the 3-story scaled building model which TMD is installed on top and the physical properties of the spatial model is determined using the residue matrix and the location of poles from FRF measurement using polynomial curve fitting methods.

  • This paper presents an inchworm with three piezoelectric actuators. The dynamic stiffness of the inchworm is generally low compared to its driving condition, so mechanical vibration may degenerate the motion accuracy of the inchworm. The dynamic model of inchworm is identified by curve fitting technique based on the experimental frequency response function. For the precision motion control and low residual vibration of inchworm, driving input signal is designed by using cycloid step input and LQG control technique. Experimental result shows that proposed input shaping method is applicable effectively to the inchworm.

  • Machining accuracy is closely related with tool deflection induced by cutting forces. In this research, cutting forces and tool deflection in end milling are expressed as a closed form of tool rotational angle and cutting conditions. The discrete cutting fores caused by periodic tool entry and exit are represented as a continuous function using the Fourier series expansion. Tool deflection is predicted by direct integration of the distributed loads on cutting edges. Cutting conditions, tool geometry, run-outs and the stiffness of tool clamping part are considered together far cutting forces and tool deflection estimation. Compared with numerical methods, the presented method has advantages in prediction time reduction and the effects of feeding and run-outs on cutting forces and tool deflection can be analyzed quantitatively. This research can be effectively used in real time machining error estimation and cutting condition selection for error minimization since the form accuracy is easily predicted from tool deflection curve.

  • Continuous fiber ceramic composites(CPCCs) having the advantages of ceramics resistance to heat, eroson can be applied in chemical reactors and engine. CFCCs has relatively high stiffness in spite of low weight. In particular, it exhibits greatly increased toughness, which serves to decrease its inherent damage characteristics of the brittle nature of monolithic ceramics. In this wort, tensile and flexural test for SCS6 fiber/ $Si_3N_4$ matrix composites were studied. An objective of this study is to obtain the basic quantities of mechanical properties for tension and flexural test and link these to the fracture resistance behavior. Then, we showed that wok of fracture concept was useful as a method for describing fracture restance behavior of CFCCs.

  • Recently, the interest for renewable energy producing system is increasing rapidly. Among these, the wind turbine is most highlighted. It is installed at severe environment and generated electricity for a long time to exceed twenty years. Components of wind turbine are required high reliability. Therefore, structural strength analysis for wind turbine is needed for an accurate FE model. This paper is to provide reliable fine element modeling method of yaw bearing for wind turbine.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop the straightforward design guidelines of PD/PID speed controller for Industry servo drives with plug and play concept. The controller gains are uniquely determined from the current control loop dynamics, speed loop delay, and mechanical parameters. In order to eliminate the mechanical friction uncertainties, an automatic PD/PI control mode switching algorithm Is introduced using online spectrum analysis of motor torque command. The dynamic performance of the proposed scheme assures a fast tracking response curve with minimal oscillation and settling time over the whole operating conditions. For comprehensive comparison of conventional PI control scheme, extensive test is carried out on actual servo system.

  • This paper presents the simultaneous optimal design of structure and LQG control systems for the improvement of riding comforts of active vehicle suspension systems. The performance index of riding comforts is extended to include frequency-weighted acceleration in the quadratic cost functional. Janeway human response curve with respect to acceleration is used to verify the usefulness of the presented method. The method is applied to a half model of an active vehicle suspension systems with elastic body moving on randomly profiled road. The values of stiffness of suspensions are used for the structural design variables. The conjugate gradient method is used for optimization. The simulated results of simultaneous optimization with frequency-weighted cost functional are compared with those without frequency- weighted cost functional.
