Multi-Image Stereo Technique Using Self-Consistency (자기 일치성을 이용한 다중 영상 스테레오 기법)

  • The ability to efficiently and robustly recover accurate 3D terrain models from sets of stereoscopic images is important to many civilian and military applications. To develop an effective and practical terrain modeling system, we propose a new multi-image stereo method which detect unreliable elevations in DEM(Digital Elevation Map), and fuse several DEMs from multiple sources into an accurate and reliable results. This paper focuses on two key factors for generating robust 3D terrain models: the ability to detect unreliable elevation estimates and the ability to fuse the reliable elevations into a single optimal terrain model. We apply the self-consistency methodology to reconstruct accurate DEM from multi-image and show the method is more effective than the conventional stereo image 3D reconstruction method. Using photo-realistic simulator, four synthetic image are generated from ground truth DEM and orthoimage to evaluate the accuracy of the proposed method quantitatively.

  • Previous approaches to the 2D to 3D conversion problem require heavy computation or considerable amount of user input. In this paper, we propose a rather simple method in estimating the depth map from a single image using a monocular depth cue: haze. Using the haze imaging model, we obtain the distance information and estimate a reliable depth map from a single scenery image. Using the depth map, we also suggest an algorithm that converts the single image to 3D stereoscopic images. We determine a disparity value for each pixel from the original 'left' image and generate a corresponding 'right' image. Results show that the algorithm gives well refined depth maps despite the simplicity of the approach.

Development of an Optical System for Iris Photographing (홍채 촬영용 광학계 개발)

  • We tried to design and manufacture an iris photographing optical-system which is used in the Oriental medicine or medical diagnostics. The whole system consists of a light source part, an image focusing part, a CCD transfer part and a diagnosis S/W. We designed the image focusing part to the reduction optical-system with 0.58X magnification of which the chromatic aberration is removed by using materials of FD60 and BACD5. The image focusing part's localization did big contribution in coot reduction of products. The manufactured iris photographing optical-system had superior performance in aspect that has stereoscopic effects of images in comparison with the foreigner's.

  • 인간이 입체로 시청할 때에는 같은 거리에 있는 객체들도 밝기나 채도에 따라 입체감의 차이가 발생한다. 이러한 정보들을 활용함으로써 입체 화질을 개선한 영상은 기존의 입체 영상의 입체감을 증대시킬 수 있는 효과가 있다. 본 논문에서는 좌우영상의 전처리 과정을 통하여 입체 영상에서의 입체 화질을 개선하는 영상처리 기술을 제안한다. 제안 방법으로는 대비향상기법, 채도처리 기법의 2가지 방법을 제안한다. 실험을 통해 각 제안방법의 우수성과 장단점을 분석하고, 여러 가지 입체영상을 실험함으로써 제안한 방법이 주관적 실험 아래 입체감이 개선되었음을 증명하였다.

A Survey Tool for the Measurements of the Rock Parting Surfaces (암반의 불연속면 배열을 측량하는 원격 영상측량기)

  • This study presents methodology and tools for remote measurement of the orientation of the rock parting surfaces. Two close circuit video camera capture the pictures of a rock excavation surface while a laser beam scans the surface. Positions of the laser beams in the two digital images are recognized by image processing. Using the stereoscopic concept, three dimensional coordinations of the rock surface and the orientation of the rock parting planes are calculated. Point, cross and line type laser beams are tested for better image processing results and measurement accuracy of the coordinates. According to a simple accuracy test, cross beam show better results than the point beam. However, line beam show more promising results for the measurement of the rock parting surfaces.

  • In this paper, we present a simultaneous method for depth image based rendering. Simultaneous method can reduce high computational complexity and waste of memory required for DIBR. Experimental results show that the proposed method is suitable for generating auto-stereoscopic images.

Development of Error Compensation Algorithm for Image based Measurement System (미세부품 영상 측정시 진동에 의한 오차 보상 알고리즘 개발)

  • In this paper, we studied a vibration problem that is critical and common to most precision measurement systems. For micro mechanical part measurements, results obtained from the vision-based precision measurement system may contain errors due to the vibration. In order to defeat this generic problem, for the current study, a PC based image processing technique was used first, to assess the effect of the vibration to the precision measurement and second, to develop an in-situ calibration algorithm that automatically compensate the measurement results in real time. We used a set of stereoscopic CCD cameras to acquire the images for the dimensional measurement and the reference measurement. The mapping function was obtained through the in-situ calibration to compensate the measurement results and the statistical analysis for the actual results is provided in the paper. Based on the current statistical study, it is expected to obtain high precision results for the micro measurement systems.

Comparison of CME mean density based on a full ice-cream cone structure and its corresponding ICME one

  • For space weather forecast, it is important to determine three-dimensional parameters of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). To estimate three-dimensional parameters of CMEs, we have developed a full ice-cream cone model which is a combination of a symmetrical flat cone and a hemisphere. By applying this model to 12 SOHO/LASCO halo CMEs, we find that three-dimensional parameters from our method are similar to those from other stereoscopic methods. For several geoeffective CME events, we determine CME mass by applying the Solarsoft procedure (e.g., cme_mass.pro) to SOHO/LASCO C3 images. CME volumes are estimated from the full ice-cream cone structure. We derive CME mean density as a function of CME height for these CMEs, which are approximately fitted to power-law functions. We find that the ICME mean densities extrapolated from the power law functions, are correlated with their corresponding ICME ones in logarithmic scales.

Block-based Disparity Estimation Algorithm Using Edge information (영상의 경계 정보를 이용한 블록기반 시차 예측기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a new disparity estimation method called object based block matching algorithm(OBMA) for stereoscopic images which is able to reduce the blocking artifact. In the proposed algorithm, edge information of the given image is first extracted and then we estimate the disparity of each segmented object to remove the blocking artifact. In the experimental results, it is proven that the proposed algorithm has about the same performance as the old BMA algorithm while it achieves much better subjective quality.

Transformation of Stereoscopic Images for 3D Perception Improvement (입체영상의 3D 증강을 위한 입체영상 변환)

  • 최근 국내외 디지털 가전 업체들은 다양한 3D 기술을 앞세워 가정 내에서도 편하게 즐길 수 잇도록 다양한 3DTV를 출시하고 있다. 이러한 3DTV에서 입체영상을 시청하기 위해서는 입체콘텐츠가 제작되어 전송되어야 한다[1]. 이러한 입체 콘텐츠는 RGB 영상과 깊이맵을 이용하여 생성할 수 있는데, 이때 깊이맵은 사용자의 용도에 따라 다양한 형태로 변환될 수 있다. 최근엔 이러한 깊이맵과 3D 영상의 컬러를 변환하여 지각 깊이감을 개선하는 영상처리 기술에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 따라, 본 논문에서는 기존의 컬러 변환을 통한 2D 영상의 지각 깊이감 개선을 입체영상에 적용하여, 3D 지각 입체감을 동시에 향상시키는 방법을 제안한다. 이를 위해 대조 변환 및 배경 다크닝 방법을 제안하고, 실험을 통해 제안 방법이 상기 목적을 얻을 수 있는 것을 검증하였다.
