In order to check the influence of the randomness in yield strengths on the energy dissipation capacity of steel structures, behaviour factors applied for the "Response Spectrum Method" and their distributions are determined in this study with 7 steel framed models. Also 4 artificial accelerograms simulated with a given spectrum are applied to check the influence of the randomness in seismic action on the behviour factor. To execute numerous time-step calculations for the investigation a time-step analysis method is developed and applied after the reliability estimation to determine the action effects.

In this paper, we present simulation results of Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) to a Once-through boiler steam temperature. In order to control the steam temperatures, we choose spray and damper as two input variables. Then, the step response model is generated for the two major output variables by step test. After that, on-line optimization is performed using $(2\times2)$ step response model. Proposed controller is applied to the APESS (Doosan company's boiler model simulator) and the simulation results show satisfactory performance of proposed control.

Since the ultra-high voltage power apparatus are recommended to withstand switching surge generated from the electric power system, the switching impulse voltage is generally used to verify this requirement at the testing laboratories. Recently, the international standard(IEC 60060-2) related to the high voltage measurement techniques is revised requiring a traceability of measuring system for high voltage measurements. In this paper, a reference divider for switching impulse voltage is developed satisfying the revised. IEC standard and the possibility of applications has been investigated. Therefore, the characteristics of the high and low voltage side resistor and the shielding ring have been analyzed including the step response characteristics of the prototype divider. Throughout various efforts, it is confirmed that our measuring device has shown compatible characteristics as a reference divider.

In order to develop the hydrostatic guideways driven by a core less linear motor for ultra precision machine tools, a prototype of guideway is designed and tested. A coreless linear DC motor with a continuous force of 156 N and a laser scale with a resolution of 0.01 ㎛ are used in the system. Experimental analysis on the static stiffness, motion errors, positioning error and its repeatability, micro step response and velocity variation of the guideway are performed. The guideway shows infinite stiffness within 50 N applied load in the feed direction, and by the motion error compensation method using the Active Controlled Capillary, 0.08 ㎛ linear motion error and 0.1 arcsec angular motion error are acquired. The guideway also reveals 0.21 ㎛ positioning error and 0.09 ㎛ repeatability, and it shows stable responses following a 0.01 ㎛ resolution step command. The velocity variation of feeding system is less than 0.6 %. From these results, it is estimated that the hydrostatic guideway driven by a coreless linear motor is very useful for the ultra precision machine tools.
This paper presents irradiance distribution model of light radiated from a step-index multimode optical fiber. The model is important in analysis of displacement response characteristics for intensity modulation type optical fiber sensors. The induced model was verified by experimental results. And the displacement response analysis result induced by using the irradiance distribution model was verified by experimental results and compared with using existing irradiance distribution models such as the constant model or the gaussian model. The experiment has better agreement with the analysis result using the induced model in this study than with the others models.

A simulation procedure was developed for identifying Yungnam unit 2 excitation model parameters to improve the accuracy of stability simulation of KEPCO. First, generator model parameters are derived by using modified load rejection technique from measured load rejection test. For identifying excitation model parameters, switch was changed from MVR mode to AVR mode in Yungnam unit 2 excitation system instead of applying to a small step to the voltage reference($V_{ref}$) because of saving time and efforts, assuming the test result would show coincided result with applying to a small step to the $V_{ref}$. However, it was found that the response of switching from MVR to AVR is greatly different from it of applying small signal to the $V_{ref}$. A simulation procedure was needed to take into accounts of real AVR component status before and after switching from MVR to AVR. This paper reports the procedure which duplicated the measured response and addresses the merits of this test on conventional AVR step test.

The primary purpose of this study is to suggest a new methodology for calibration of a continuous price response function and to compare the differences in the price response function with and without choice set information. Through the new methodology, the two-staged conjoint analysis, the continuous price response function far jeans market was calibrated. Three steps were required to complete the two-staged conjoint analysis. Step one provided respondents with both a written and a visual description of two different randomly selected styles and colors of denim jeans. In step two respondents were asked to choose the combination of attributes they intended to purchase. Based upon the literature review, these four attributes included: brand, style, price, and color. Respondents were required to assess their purchase intentions for 32 combinations by marking Yes if she/he would purchase a given combination and No if she/he would not purchase a given combination. This allowed for identification of each respondents choice set. Instructions in step three required respondents to rate each combination marked Yes on a scale of 1-100, with one as least likely to be purchased and 100 as most likely to be purchased. This value served as the dependent variable for estimating the parameters in the model. Furthermore, the empirical study shows that there is a difference in price response function with and without choice set information. Therefore, when one calibrates a price response function far a given brand, we can recommend to include choice set information in his/her research.
In this paper, the authors carried out the study to develop oil spill response training courses for competent responders examining IMO guidelines, response training courses of maritime development countries and Korea response. According to a result of study, fundamental training courses are to be established on the basis of IMO guideline, and also to prepare pre-arranged brief course like Basics of Spill Response for beginner. The courses should be step-by-step related with mutual continuous contents, and more times are given to on-site training for basic course and to classroom lecture with desk-top exercise for advanced course. Besides, SCAT shall be added to shoreline cleanup course, finally it is advisable that total 9 types of courses are established with additional refresh course.

This article presents the statistical characteristics of elastic floor acceleration spectra that represent the peak response demand of non-structural components attached to a nonlinear supporting frame. For this purpose, a set of stiff and flexible general moment resisting frames with periods of 0.3-3.6 sec. are analyzed using forty-nine near-field strong ground motion records. Peak accelerations are derived for each single degree of freedom non-structural component, supported by the above mentioned frames, through a direct-integration time-history analysis. These accelerations are obtained by Floor Acceleration Response Spectrum (FARS) method. They are statistically analyzed in the next step to achieve a better understanding of their height-wise distributions. The factors that affect FARS values are found in the relevant state of the art. Here, they are summarized to evaluate the amplification and/or reduction of FARS values especially when the supporting structures undergo inelastic behavior. The properties of FARS values are studied in three regions: long-period, fundamental-period and short-period. Maximum elastic acceleration response of non-structural component, mounted on inelastic frames, depends on the following factors: inelasticity intensity and modal periods of supporting structure; natural period, damping ratio and location of non-structural component. The FARS values, corresponded to the modal periods of supporting structure, are strongly reduced beyond elastic domain. However, they could be amplified in the transferring period domain between the mentioned modal periods. In the next step, the amplification and/or reduction of FARS values, caused by inelastic behavior of supporting structure, are calculated. A parameter called the response acceleration reduction factor ($R_{acc}$), has been previously used for far-field earthquakes. The feasibility of extending this parameter for near-field motions is focused here, suggested repeatedly in the relevant sources. The nonlinearity of supporting structure is included in ($R_{acc}$) for better estimation of maximum non-structural component absolute acceleration demand, which is ordinarily neglected in the seismic design provisions.

Generally, the digital controller has many advantages such as high precision, robustness to electrical noise, capability of flexible programming and fast response to the load variation. In this study, we have established proper mathematical equivalent model of Brushless DC (BLDC) motor and estimated the motor parameter by means of the back-emf measurement as being the step input to the controlled target BLDC motor. And the validity of proposed estimation method is confirmed by the test result of step response. As well, we have designed the reasonable digital controller as a consequence of the root locus method which is obtained from the open-loop transfer function of BLDC motor with hall sensor, and the determination of control gain for variable speed control. Here, revised Ziegler-Nichols tuning method is applied for the proper digital gain establishment, and the system stability is verified by the frequency domain analysis with Bode-plot and experimentation.
