The purpose of this study was to propose the utility which was evaluated the digital image processing and clinical application of the videodensitomery. The experiments were performed with IBM-PC/16bit-AT compatible, video camera(CCdtr55, Sony Co., Japan), an color monitor(MultiSync 3D, NEC, Japan) providing the resolution of 512×480 and 64 levels of gray. Sylvia Image Capture Board for the ADC(analog to digital converter) was used, composed of digitized image from digital signal and the radiographic density was measured by 256 level of gray. The periapical radiograph(Ektaspeed EP-21, Kodak Co., U. S. A) which was radiographed dried human mandible by exposure condition of 70 kVp and 48 impulses, was used for primary X-ray detector. And them evaluated for digitzed image by low and high pass filtering, correlations between aluminum equivalent values and the thickness of aluminum step wedge, aluminum equivalent values of sound enamel, dentin, and alveolar bone, the range of diffuse density for gray level ranging from 0 to 255. The obtained results were as follows: 1. The edge between aluminum steps of digitized image were somewhat blurred by low pass filtering, but edge enhancement could be resulted by high pass filtering. Expecially, edge enhancement between distal root of lower left 2nd molar and alveolar lamina dura was observed. 2. The correlation between aluminum equivalent values and the thickness of aluminum step wedge was intimated, yielding the coefficient of correlation r=0.9997(p<0.00l), the regression line was described by Y=0.9699X+0.456, and coefficient of variation amounting to 1.5%. 3. The aluminum equivalent values of sound enamel, dentin, and alvolar bone were 15.41㎜, 12.48㎜, 10.35㎜, respectively. 4. The range of diffuse density for gray level ranging from 0 to 255 was wider enough than that of photodenstiometer to be within the range of 1-4.9.

Military camera equipment has a problem that observability is inferior due to various shaking factors. In this paper, we propose an image stabilization algorithm considering performance and execution time to solve this problem and implemented it in Zynq SoC. We stabilized both the simple shaking in the fixed observation position and the sudden shaking in the moving observation position. The feature of the input image is extracted by the Sobel edge algorithm, the subblock with the large edge data is selected, and the motion vector, which is the compensation reference, is calculated through template matching using the 3-step search algorithm of the region of interest. In addition, the proposed algorithm can distinguish the shaking caused by the simple shaking and the movement by using the Kalman filter, and the stabilized image can be obtained by minimizing the loss of image information. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, experiments on various images were performed. In comparison, PSNR is improved in the range of 2.6725~3.1629 (dB) and image loss is reduced from 41% to 15%. On the other hand, we implemented the hardware-software integrated design using HLS of Xilinx SDSoC tool and confirmed that it operates at 32 fps on the Zynq board, and realized SoC that operates with real-time processing.
The boundary noise in image syntheses using DIBR consists of noisy pixels that are separated from foreground objects into background region. It is generated mainly by edge misalignment between the reference image and depth map or blurred edge in the reference image. Since hole areas are generally filled with neighboring pixels, boundary noise adjacent to the hole is the main cause of quality degradation in synthesized images. To solve this problem, a new boundary noise removal algorithm using a preprocessing of the depth map is proposed in this paper. The most common way to eliminate boundary noise caused by boundary misalignment is to modify depth map so that the boundary of the depth map can be matched to that of the reference image. Most conventional methods, however, show poor performances of boundary detection especially in blurred edge, because they are based on a simple boundary search algorithm which exploits signal gradient. In the proposed method, a two-step hierarchical approach for boundary detection is adopted which enables effective boundary detection between the transition and background regions. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms conventional ones subjectively and objectively.

Matching two images is an essential step for many computer vision applications. A new approach to the scale and rotation invariant scene matching, using linear features, is presented. Scene or model images are described by a set of linear features approximating edge information, which can be obtained by the conventional edge detection, thinning, and piecewise linear approximation. A set of candidate parameters are hypothesized by mapping the angular difference and a new distance measure to the Hough space and by detecting maximally consistent points. These hypotheses are verified by a fast linear feature matching algorithm composed of a single-step relaxation and a Hough technique. The proposed method is shown to be much faster than the conventional one where the relaxation process is repeated until convergence, while providing matching performance robust to the random alteration of the linear features, without a priori information on the geometrical transformation parameters.

This paper presents, a deinterlacing method by improving the Direction-Oriented Interpolation (DOI) technique. The technique is considered to be a very strong tool for intrafield-based deinterlacing. However, DOI has some problems such as long processing time, wrong edge detection in periodic pattern. To remedy this problem, we replace the full search in DOI by a two-step search to reduce processing time and introduces two additional processes to improve image quality. In the proposed method, the spatial direction vectors (SDVs) misread data are reconsidered to prevent them utilizing in the next interpolation step, resulting in an accurate deinterlacing method. We conduct experiments with ISO experimental images to compare the proposed method with the existing methods including line evarage (LA), edge-based line averaging (ELA), DOI, selective deinterlacing algorithm (SDA). Experimental results show the proposed method gives better performance in objective and subjective quality than existing deinterlacing methods.

In this paper, we propose a new post-processing method which can solve a problem of MSDS(Mean Squared Difference of Slope) method. Using that method the blocking artifacts can significantly be reduced without any restriction, which is a major drawback of block-based DCT compression method. In this approach, the OSLD(Overlapped Sub-Laplacian Distribution) of dequantized block boundary pixel difference values is defined and used to categorize each block of an image into one of four types. Those types are also classified into one of two classes: an edge and a non-edge classes. A slope across the block boundary is used to quantify discontinuity of the image. If an absolute estimated quantization error value of a DCT coefficient is greater than the corresponding quantization step size, it is saturated to the step size in the edge class. The proposed post-processing method can improve not only the PSNR value up to 0.1~O.3 dB but visual quality without any constraints determined by ad-hoc manner.

This paper presents a new edge-preserving algorithm and its VLSI architecture for block artifact reduction. Unlike previous approaches using block classification, our algorithm utilizes pixel classification to categorize each pixel into one of two classes, namely smooth region and edge region, which are described by the edge-preserving maps. Based on these maps, a two-step adaptive filter which includes offset filtering and edge-preserving filtering is used to remove block artifacts. A pipelined VLSI architecture of the proposed deblocking algorithm for HD video processing is also presented in this paper. A memory-reduced architecture for a block buffer is used to optimize memory usage. The architecture of the proposed deblocking filter is prototyped on FPGA Cyclone II, and then we estimated performance when the filter is synthesized on ANAM 0.25 ${\mu}m$ CMOS cell library using Synopsys Design Compiler. Our experimental results show that our proposed algorithm effectively reduces block artifacts while preserving the details.

This paper suggests a method that obtains the minimum spanning tree (MST) far more easily and rapidly than the present ones. The suggested algorithm, firstly, simplifies a graph by means of reducing the number of edges of the graph. To achieve this, it applies a method of eliminating the maximum weight edge if the valency of vertices of the graph is equal to or more than 3. As a result of this step, we can obtain the reduced edge population. Next, it applies a method in which the maximum weight edge is eliminated within the cycle. On applying the suggested population minimizing and maximum weight edge deletion algorithms to 9 various graphs, as many as the number of cycles of the graph is executed and MST is easily obtained. It turns out to lessen 66% of the number of cycles and obtain the MST in at least 2 and at most 8 cycles by only deleting the maximum weight edges.

Sumi-e is one of the art work that uses not only ink line but also color painting. This technique is well known as a representative Asian painting style and widely used in movie, advertisement poster and various effect in camera device. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that can generate result image with Sumi-e effects of example image based on computer graphics and image processing techniques. For this, we pass two steps. The first is painting expression step. We used texture transfer technique to generate result with texture effect of reference image by analyzing numerically. The second step is ink-painting effect generation step. We express ink-painting effect in outline by considering intensity variation in edge of example image. Our algorithm can express various Sumi-e style based on selected reference image. So it can be utilized to various contents generating research.

Generally, the vertical roll process is used to achieve extensive width reduction in hot strip mill. However, it is difficult to avoid the defects such as dog-bone and seam-defect. The sizing press has been developed in response to the defects mentioned above. Especially, this study is carried out to investigate the deformation of slab by two-step sizing press. The deformation behavior in the width sizing process is more favorable than that in conventional vertical rolling edger. The objective of this study is to determine the optimal anvil shape parameters in the sizing press with two-step die from the viewpoint of edge-seam length. In general, the edge-seam defect occurs parallel to the rolling direction at both edges in horizontal rolling process after sizing press. The optimal combination of the parameters is determined by FE-simulation and Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The slab deformation in sizing press with convex anvil is analyzed by FE-simulation. The most suitable profile of the anvil is also discussed fur the improvement of trimming loss because of the side seam defect by FE-simulation and ANN.
