A design on robust integral-type optimal model following servo system (강인한 적분형 최적 모델 추종형 서보계의 구성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper deals with design method of the model following servo system in which optimal regulator probelm is used to design the controllers that make the step/ramp response of the plant be keptclose to a specified ideal step/ramp response of the model. The characteristics of this system is robust in the presence of the specified disturbances or the partameter perturbations of the plant. Especially, by direct feedforward compensator from the reference input the steady state offset of plant output response is excluded and the transient response is improved. Examples are give and the results of the design of the model follwing servo systems are verified by the computer simulation.

  • For nonlinear control system design, there are many studies based on TSK fuzzy model. However, TSK fuzzy modelling needs nonlinear dynamic equations of the object system or a data set fully distributed in input-output space. This paper proposes an modelling technique using only step input response data. The technique uses also the genetic algorithm. The object systems in this paper are nonlinear to control input variable or output variable. In the case of nonlinear to control input, response data obtained with several step input values are used. In the case of nonlinear to output, step input response data and zero input response data are used. This paper also presents a fuzzy controller design technique from TSK fuzzy model. The effectiveness of the proposed techniques is verified with numerical examples.

  • In order to perform a step-by-step force-displacement response analysis or dynamic time-history analysis of large buildings with masonry infilled R/C frames, a continuous force-deformation model based on an equivalent strut approach is proposed for masonry infill panels containing openings. The model, which is applicable for degrading elements, can be implemented to replicate a wide range of monotonic force-displacement behaviour, resulting from different design and geometry, by varying the control parameters of the model. The control parameters of the proposed continuous model are determined using experimental data. The experimental program includes fifteen 1/3-scale, single-story, single-bay reinforced concrete frame specimens subjected to lateral cyclic loading. The parameters investigated include the shape, the size, the location of the opening and the infill compressive strength. The actual properties of the infill and henceforth the characteristics needed for the diagonal strut model are based on the assessment of its lateral resistance by the subtraction of the response of the bare frame from the response of the infilled frame.

  • This paper provides an identification method for three-parameter models i.e. first order with dead time models and second order with dead time models. The proposed identification method is based on step response and can be easily implemented using digital microprocessors. The proposed method first identifies the order of the plant i.e. first order or second order from the behavior of the plant with constant input. After the order of the plant is determined, a test step input is applied to the system and the three parameters of the plant are obtained from the corresponding response of the plant. The output of the plant need not to be zero when the test signal is applied. The efficacy of proposed algorithms is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • This paper presents irradiance distribution model of light radiated from a step-index multimode optical fiber. The model is important in analysis of displacement response characteristics for intensity modulation type optical fiber sensors. The induced model was verified by experimental results. And the displacement response analysis result induced by using the irradiance distribution model was verified by experimental results and compared with using existing irradiance distribution models such as the constant model or the gaussian model. The experiment has better agreement with the analysis result using the induced model in this study than with the others models.

  • The paper describes the second half of the research for the development of Neural-Networks-based model for the generation of an Artificial earthquake and a Response Spectrum(NNARS). Based on the redefined traditional processes related to the generation of an earthquake acceleration response spectrum and design spectrum, four neural-networks-based models are proposed to substitute the traditional processes. RS_NN tries to directly generate acceleration response spectrum with basic data that are magnitude, epicentral distance, site conditions and focal depth. The test results of RS_NN are not good because of the characteristics of white noise, which is randomly generated. ARS_NN solve this problem by the introduction of the average concept. IARS_NN has a role to inverse the ARS_NN, so that is applied to generate a ground motion accelerogram compatible with the shape of a response spectrum. Additionally, DS_NN directly produces design spectrum with basic data. As these four neural networks are simulated as a step by step, the paper describes the methods to generate a response spectrum and a design spectrum using the neural networks.

  • This paper presents an algorithm to design a robust digital model following servo control system in which optimal linear quadratic regulator problem is used to design the control system that make the step/ramp response of the plant kept close to a specified ideal step/ramp response of the model. The quadratic criterion function for a continuous system is used to design the robust digital servo control system. The feasibility of the design technique is shown by the simulation and the proposed method is applied to the speed control of DC servo motor.

  • The step to obtain a process dynamic model through process experiments is very important because it needs times and expenditures. Step response method is one of the standard methods to have long been used for understanding process dynamics, obtaining dynamical models and designing control systems. For the step response, it is usually required to measure process output for a step input change in the open-loop manner. Its disadvantage criticized is the long open-loop operation. For this, a method based on the time-optimal control technique to minimize the test time for obtaining the step response has been recently presented. However, the method requires iterative computations for the minimization of test times. Here, a method where iterative computations are not required is proposed. Simulation results are presented to show that test times to obtain step responses are reduced considerably and an autotuning method based on the proposed method is compared with the relay feedback autotuning method accepted widely for the autotuning of controllers.

Assessment of effect of material properties on seismic response of a cantilever wall

  • Cantilever retaining wall movements generally depend on the intensity and duration of ground motion, the response of the soil underlying the wall, the response of the backfill, the structural rigidity, and soil-structure interaction (SSI). This paper investigates the effect of material properties on seismic response of backfill-cantilever retaining wall-soil/foundation interaction system considering SSI. The material properties varied include the modulus of elasticity, Poisson's ratio, and mass density of the wall material. A series of nonlinear time history analyses with variation of material properties of the cantilever retaining wall are carried out by using the suggested finite element model (FEM). The backfill and foundation soil are modelled as an elastoplastic medium obeying the Drucker-Prager yield criterion, and the backfill-wall interface behavior is taken into consideration by using interface elements between the wall and soil to allow for de-bonding. The viscous boundary model is used in three dimensions to consider radiational effect of the seismic waves through the soil medium. In the seismic analyses, North-South component of the ground motion recorded during August 17, 1999 Kocaeli Earthquake in Yarimca station is used. Dynamic equations of motions are solved by using Newmark's direct step-by-step integration method. The response quantities incorporate the lateral displacements of the wall relative to the moving base and the stresses in the wall in all directions. The results show that while the modulus of elasticity has a considerable effect on seismic behavior of cantilever retaining wall, the Poisson's ratio and mass density of the wall material have negligible effects on seismic response.

Structural response of rectangular composite columns under vertical and lateral loads

  • The present study aims to determine the structural response of full scaled rectangular columns under both of vertical and lateral loads using numerical methods. In the study, the composite columns considering full concrete filled circular steel tube (FCFRST) and concrete filled double-skin rectangular steel tube (CFDSRST) section types are numerically modelled using ANSYS software. Vertical and lateral loads are applied to models to assess the structural response of the composite elements. Also similar investigations are done for reinforced concrete rectangular (RCR) columns to compare the results with those of composite elements. The analyses of the systems are statically performed for both linear and nonlinear materials. In linear static analyses, both of vertical and lateral loads are applied to models as only one step. However in nonlinear analyses, while vertical loads are applied to model as only one step, lateral loads are applied to systems as step by step. The displacement and stress changes in some critical nodes and sections and contour diagrams are reported by graphs and figures. At the end of the study, it is demonstrated that the nonlinear models reveal more accurate result then those of linear models. Also, it is highlighted that composite columns provide more and more safety, ductility compared to reinforced concrete column.
