The objective of this research was to establish the estimation method of growth information on potato using Multi-Spectral Image Sensor (MSIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS). And growth estimation map for determining a prescription map over the entire field was generated. To determine the growth model, 10 ground-truth points of areas of $4m^2$ each were selected and investigated. The growth information included stem number, crop height and SPAD value. In addition, images information involving the ground-truth points were also taken by an unmanned helicopter, and reflectance value of Green, Red, and NIR bands were calculated with image processing. Then, growth status of potato was modeled by multi-regression analysis using these reflectance value of Green, Red, and NIR. As a result, potato growth information could be detected by analyzing Green, Red, and NIR images. Stem number, crop height and SPAD value could be estimated with $R^2$ values of 0.600, 0.657 and 0.747 respectively. The generated GIS map would describe variability of the potato growth in a whole field.
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of subirrigation of Dolrido on the growth and development of stem cutting and young roes plant. Plant growth was measured at 20, 40, and 60 days after subirrigation of Dolrido. Plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area and root length of cutting rose subirrigation were more affected than those of control. The growth of young seedling was significantly affected by subirrigation of Dolrido. Plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, leaf area, fresh and dry weight were increased with subirrigation of Dolrido. However, T/R ratio was not affected by subirrigation of Dolrido. Growth of seedlings was promoted after 60 days treatment of Dolrido.
The present study conducted a stem analysis to trace growth information of Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi) and predict the future changes in growth volume. For this purpose, six L. kaempferi trees over 47 years old were cut at 1-2 m intervals from a height of 0.2 m, and circular plates of 5 cm thickness were collected for stem analysis. The analysis indicated that approximately 1-8 years are required to grow up to chest height. The annual height and diameter growth increased rapidly until the trees are 15 years old and gradually decreased after 20 years. The volume of 30-year-old trees in Oegam-ri forests, which were well-managed after artificial reforestation, was 0.4837 m3, whereas that in unmanaged Singi-ri forests was 0.1956 m3. Although the volume of individual trees differed greatly depending on the forest management status, it was found that the volume increased by 1.67-1.76, 2.49, and 3.49 times at 40, 50, and 60 years age, respectively, compared to the legal harvesting age 30. Therefore, factors such as the carbon dioxide reduction effect, forest management benefits, and the condition of trees at the site should be considered before harvesting trees.
This paper aims at gaining the informations atout the fibril angle at secondary walls of tracheids. The test specimens were taken from disks on stem wood of "Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et zucc". The method of measuring the fibirl angle was selected so-called "iodine method" that crystalline aggregates of iodine may be induced to form within the elongated interstices of the cellulose matrix of the secondary wall and that these elongated crystals are oriented parallel to the long axies of the fibrills of cellulose. The following conclusions may be drawn from the results of this investigation. 1) Gross average fibril angle was about $17.6^{\circ}$ on stem wood. 2) Its values seem to be greater for earlywood (avg.$19.8^{\circ}$) than for latewood tracheids (avg.$15.3^{\circ}$) in normal wood. 3) According to the increase of annual ring from pith to barks the orientation of fibril angle seems to be decrease gradually in normal wood. 4) In the case of height variation in trees the sample trees have a tendency to increase the orientation fibril angle to the increase of tree height in stem.
Based on the stem analysis and biomass measurement of 36 trees and 1,576 branches in Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica (Mongolian pine) plantations of Northeast China, this study was conducted to develop estimation model equation for leaf biomass of a single tree and branch, to examine the vertical distribution of leaf biomass in the crown, and to evaluate the proportional ratios of biomass by tree parts, stem, branch, and leaf. The results indicated that DBH and crown length were quite appropriate to estimate leaf biomass. The biomass of single branch was highly correlated with branch collar diameter and relative height of branch in the crown, but not much with stand density, site quality, and tree height. Weibull distribution function would have been appropriate to express vertical distribution of leaf biomass. The shape parameters from 29 sample trees out of 36 were less than 3.6, indicating that vertical distribution of leaf biomass in the crown was displayed by bell-shaped curve, a little inclined toward positive side. Apparent correlationship was obtained between leaf biomass and branch biomass having resulted in linear function equation. The stem biomass occupied around 80% and branch and leaf made up about 20% of total biomass in a single tree. As the level of tree class was increased from class I to class V, the proportion of the stem biomass to total biomass was gradually increased, but that of branch and leaf became decreased.
The objective of this study was to compare year variations of heritability, phenotypic, genotypic and environmental correlations as well as pathway coefficients for main characters of tea tree to provide useful selection information for improving tea tree. The data collected from the performance yield trials from 1979 to 1981 were used in this study. 1. The genetic variance of height of stem and length of first branch was not only greatly varied with year. but also the largest among all characteristics studied. Other characteristics showed higher genetic variance than environmental variances, and year variances were very small. 2. Both year and variety x year interaction were highly significant sources of variation for height of stem, length of first branch and number of fruits in main stem pooled from three year data. 3. All characteristics showed high broad sense heritabilities, and the broad sense heritability was not varied with year. 4. The genetic correlation coefficients between Gigolpi and height of stem, length of first branch and number of fruits in main stem were positive, and the year variation was not large. 5. The pathway coefficients of the character was not only greatly varied with year and the height of stem, length of first branch and weight of dryed root affected directly on the Giglopi.

Compared to wide ranges of genetic variation of natural populations, very limited Miscanthus cultivar has been released. This study was the first report on the development of Miscanthus cultivar by means of radiation breeding. Seeds of M. sinensis were initially exposed to gamma rays of 250 Gy for 24 h, generated from a $^{60}Co$ gamma-irradiator. The irradiated seeds were sown and then the highly tiller-producing mutants were selected for this study. Biomass-related parameters including tiller number, plant height, stem diameter, and leaf number were measured. Ploidy level and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) were investigated to characterize the mutants compared to wild type (WT) Miscanthus. Plant height and tiller number were negatively related, where multi-tillering mutants were relatively short after 4 month growth. However stem diameter and leaf number were greater in mutants. All the materials used in this study were diploid, implying that the mutants with greater tiller numbers and stem diameter were not likely related to polyploidization. Based on the sequence of ITS regions, the mutants demonstrated base changes from the gamma irradiation where G+C content (%) was decreased in the ITS1, but increased in ITS2 when compared to WT sequence. ITS2 region was more variable than in ITS1 in the mutants, which collectively allows identification of the mutants from WT. Those mutants having enhanced tillers and allelic variations might be used as breeding materials for enhanced biomass-producing Miscanthus cultivars.
Effects of the simulated acid rain on the growth response and the structural features were studied with the 3 month old seedlings of G. biloba and P. thunbergii treated with acid rain of pH 5.6, 4.0, 3.2, and 2.4. The diameter and area of tracheid cells in the transectioned stem of G. biloba decreased with acidity of simulated acid rain. The wall thickness of tracheid cells was the thinest at pH 2.4, but there was no different at other levels of pH. Increasing of the acidity, the height of tracheid cells were reduced steadily. The diameter and area of tracheid cells of the transectioned root reduced with decreasing pH of acid rain, but those at pH 3.2 were larger than those at control. The wall thickness and height of tracheid cells of root were gradually decreased with acidity of acid rain. The size variation of the fusiform cambial initials in the stem of G. biloba sections tangentially showed a shortening tendency with treatment of acid rain. The length of ray initials was the shortest at pH 2.4 and reduced with decreasing pH of acid rain. The diameter, area, wall thickness, and height of the tracheid cells in P. thunbergii stem and root decreased with decreasing pH of acid rain. The areas of the pith, cortex, and xylem in P. thunbergii treated with acid rain decreased, but the cortex and pith areas increased significantly after exposure to acid rain of pH 3.2 compared with control.
This study was conducted to provide data and stem information to establish a local volume table of Cryptomeria japonica in Jeju Island. Stem analysis was performed on 26 trees by selecting two average trees from each site of the 13 plots of C. japonica stands in 2021 and 2022. During the analysis stage, one outlier tree was rejected, and a total of 260 observations of the specific stem height of 25 trees were used. Of the seven major taper equation models applied for parameter estimation and statistical verification, the Muhairwe 1999 model was found to be the best fit and selected as the optimal model. Stem shape-related estimates were acquired through the selected model, and sectional measurements according to the Smalian formula applied at an interval of 10 cm from the height of the stem were used to develop a volume table. A paired t-test comparison between the C. japonica volume obtained from the present study and those selected from the current yield table by NIFoS(2020), revealed significant differences (p<0.05), highlighting the necessity of a local volume table for C. japonica in Jeju Island.
The objects of this study are to induce the experimental equation suitable to estimate the height growing process, and to get some information that could be to reduce the error percent on determining the site index. The height growing process per sample plot were made up from the height age curve getted through the stem-analysis of the dominant tree. The 11 equations were calculated in the functional formulas between the age and the dominant height of Alnus hirsuta, Larix leptolepsis, L. Gmelini, P. koraiensis, Abies holophylla, P. rigida, Q. acutissima and Q. aliena. The suitable equation for estimating the guide curve were selected with the highest correlation and the low standard error with comparision on the age-height distributed map as Fig. 2. The suitable equation is different between the species as their calculated results as follows; The growing process of tree height are occasionally found to be polymorphous in the growth pattern as Fig. 3. By this result, the site index are practically found to be always not constant but shows variation to age in same plot as example 5. So, that the site index are estimated from the height-growth curve to age drawing by the stem-analysis or the polymorphic-curve, are concluded to be suitable on the study of site evaluation.
