An experimental study was performed on the Pull-out behavior of 90-deg standard hooks from the exterior beam-column connections. the effects of the number of hooked bars and fiber reinforcement of the joint area were investigated with the following conclusions : (1) Under the pull-out action of hooked bars. the damage and cracking of joint area the number of hooks pulling out from a joint increases; (2) Substitution of the transverse column (confining) reinforcement with steel fibers at the joint region effectively reduces the extent of cracking in exterior joints caused by the pull-out of hooked bars; (3) The pull-out strength and post-peak ductility of hooked bars are adversely influenced by the increase in number of hooks pulling out from an exterior joint. Current hooked bar anchorage design guidelines may be improved by considering the effect of the number of hooked bars on anchorage conditions at the exterior joints; and (4) The strength and ductility of hooked bars under pull-out forces are positively influenced by substituting the conventional confining reinforcement of exterior joints with steel fibers . The application of steel fibers to the exterior joints is an effective technique for improving the anchorage conditions of hooked bars, and also for reducing the congestion of reinforcement in the beam-column connections.

Investigations on the dynamic behavior of concrete members, incorporating steel fibers with different aspect ratios, are limited so far and do not covered comprehensively in prior studies. Present endeavor is devoted to examine the dynamic response of the steel fibrous concrete beams and slabs under the influence of impact loading. These members were reinforced with steel fibers in different length of 25 mm and 50 mm. Four concrete mixes were designed and used based on the proportion of long and short fibers. Twenty-four slabs and beams were fabricated with respect to the concrete mix and these specimens were tested in impact load experiment. Testing observations revealed that the maximum dynamic deflection or ductility of the member can be achieved with increasing the fiber length. Structural behavior of the tested structures was predicted using nonlinear finite element analysis with specific material constitutive relationships. Eight nodes plate elements have been considered in the present dynamic analysis. Dynamic fracture energy of the members was calculated and agreement ratio, of more than 70%, was noticed between the experimental and analysis outcomes.
Theoretical expressions were dcrived for the numher of fibers per unit cross-sectional area in fiber reinforced concrete, with due consideration given to the effects of the surrounding boundaries. The number of fibers per unit cross-sectional area in steel fiber reinforced concrete was also measured experimentally for the specimens incorporating various volume fractions of fibers of different types. Statistical evaluation of the measured value was then performed in order to assess the differences in fiber concentration at different location on tbe cross section. Degree of reorientation of steel fibers in concrete occuring during vibration was examined by com¬paring the differences in the computed and measur'ed values of the number of fibers per unit cross-sectional area.
In order to evaluate the effect of hybrid fibers on the flexural performance of tunnel segment at room temperature, twelve reinforced self-consolidating concrete (SCC) symmetric inclination beams containing steel fiber, macro polypropylene fiber, micro polypropylene fiber, and their hybridizations were studied under combined loading of flexure and axial compression. The results indicate that the addition of mono steel fiber and hybrid fibers can enhance the ultimate bearing capacity and cracking behavior of tested beams. These improvements can be further enhanced along with increasing the content of steel fiber and macro PP fiber, but reduced with the increase of the reinforcement ratio of beams. The hybrid effect of steel fiber and macro PP fiber was the most obvious. However, the addition of micro PP fibers led to a degradation to the flexural performance of reinforced beams at room temperature. Meanwhile, the hybrid use of steel fiber and micro polypropylene fiber didn't present an obvious improvement to SCC beams. Compared to micro polypropylene fiber, the macro polypropylene fiber plays a more prominent role on affecting the structural behavior of SCC beams. A calculation method for ultimate bearing capacity of flexural SCC symmetric inclination beams at room temperature by taking appropriate effect of hybrid fibers into consideration was proposed. The prediction results using the proposed model are compared with the experimental data in this study and other literature. The results indicate that the proposed model can estimate the ultimate bearing capacity of SCC symmetric inclination beams containing hybrid fibers subjected to combined action of flexure and axial compression at room temperature.

In this study, experiments were conducted to investigate the compressive·flexural performances of single fiber-reinforced mortar (FRM) using only steel fiber or carbon fiber which has different material properties as well as hybrid FRM using a mixture of steel and carbon fibers. The mortar specimens incorporated steel and carbon fibers in the mix proportions of 1+0%, 0.75+0.25%, 0.5+0.5%, 0.25+0.75% and 0+1% by volume at a total volume fraction of 1.0%. Their mechanical performance was compared and examined with a plain mortar without fiber at 28 days of age. The experiments of mortar showed that the hybrid FRM using a mixture of 0.75% steel fibers + 0.25% carbon fibers had the highest compressive and flexural strength, confirming by thus the synergistic reinforcing effect of the hybrid FRM. On the contrast, in the case of hybrid FRM using a mixture of 0.5% steel fibers + 0.5% carbon fibers witnessed the highest flexural toughness, suggesting as a result the optimal fiber mixing ratio of hybrid FRM to improve the strength and flexural toughness at the same time. Moreover, the fracture surface was observed through a scanning electron microscope (SEM) for image analysis of the FRM specimen. These results were of great help for images analysis of hybrid reinforcing fibers in cement matrix.

This study was to define the strengthening effect of steel fibers in high strength RC columns. For this, ten specimens of columns were tested under cyclic lateral load and constant axial load. The testing parameters are steel fiber volume fraction of concrete and shear reinforcement ratio of hoop bars. Finally, the optimal content of steel fibers was evaluated as 1.0 - 1.5 % volume fraction of concrete.
The paper presents an experimental and theoretical study on the influence of steel fibers and longitudinal tension and compression reinforcements on immediate and long-term deflections of high-strength concrete beams of 85 MPa (12,300 psi) compressive, strength. Test results of eighteen beams subjected to sustained load for 180 days show that the deflection behavior depends on the longitudinal tension and compression reinforcement ratios and fiber content; excessive amount of compression reinforcement and fibers may have an unfavorable effect on the long-term deflections. The beams having the ACI Code's minimum longitudinal tension reinforcement showed much higher time-dependent deflection to immediate deflection ratio, when compared with that of the beams having about 50 percent of the balanced tension reinforcement. The results of theoretical analysis of tested beams and those of a parametric study show that the influence of steel fibers in increasing the moment of inertia of cracked transformed sections is most pronounced in beams having small amount of longitudinal tension reinforcement.
This study presents the experimental results performed to evaluate the effects of Polyvinyl-alcohol (PVA) and Polypropylene (PP) fibers on the fresh and residual mechanical properties of the hybrid fiber reinforced SCC before and after the exposure of 250℃, 500℃ and 750℃ temperatures. The compressive and splitting tensile strength, modulus of rupture (MOR), ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) as well as toughness and weight loss were investigated at different temperatures. PVA and PP fibers were added into SCC mixtures having only macro steel fiber and also having binary hybridization of both macro and micro steel fiber. The results showed that the use of micro steel fiber replaced by macro steel fiber improved the fresh and hardened properties compared to the use of only macro steel fiber. Moreover, it was emphasized that PVA or PP enhanced the residual flexural performance of SCC, generally, while it negatively influenced the workability, weight loss, UPV and the residual strengths with regards to the use of single steel fiber and binary steel fiber hybridization. Compared to the effect of synthetic fibers, PP had slightly more positive effect in the view of workability while PVA enhanced the residual mechanical properties more.

One of feasible non-destructivity test methods for evaluation of concrete permeability is the measurement of surface resistivity. But the application to steel fiber-reinforced concrete has been limited because mis-evaluation could be caused by the steel fibers in concrete. In this study, the effect of fiber distribution on surface electrical resistivity of steel fiber-reinforced concrete was investigated through experimental program. Resistivity was measured three times on four surfaces in three rectangular and circular specimens with 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% steel fibers by volume and compared each other. The results obtained from circular specimens were consistent compared to those from rectangular specimens. And the results demonstrated that the effect of fiber distribution on surface resistivity was not significant compared to that of mixing ratio of steel fibers. In conclusion, this non-destructive testing method using measurement of surface resistivity could be used for SFRC within 0.5% steel fibers by volume.
This study investigated the corrosion properties of reinforced concrete with the addition of steel fibers. The transport properties of steel fiber-reinforced concrete such as permeable void, absorption by capillary action, water permeability and chloride diffusion were first measured to evaluate the relationship with the corrosion of steel rebar. Test results showed a slight increase on the compressive strength with the addition of steel fibers as well as considerable improvement of penetration resistance to mass transport of harmful materials into concrete. The addition of steel fibers in reinforced concrete accelerated the initiation of steel corrosion contrary to the expected results based on the measured transport properties. The NaCl ponding surface showed the spalling failure due to the corrosion expansion of steel fibers and the cut-surface around the steel rebar showed the localized steel fiber's corrosion. The wet-dry cycling with high chloride ions as well as high temperature seems to induce the increase of salt crystallization on the pores continually and the increased pressure with the steel fiber's corrosion on the pores caused the spalling failure on the exposed surface. The microcracking on the surface therefore accelerated the movement of water, chloride ions and oxygen into the embedded steel rebar. The mechanism affecting corrosion of embedded steel reinforcement with steel fibers in this study are not yet fully understood and require further study comprising of accurate experimental design to isolate the effect of steel fiber's potential mechanism on the corrosion process.
