Recently, the proportion of long tunnel has increased for efficient use of land due to limited land area, driving convenience and high speed. RMR and Q-System of empirical methods has been mainly used for tunnel support design in domestic. Although shotcrete is the key to NATM tunnel, the related studies are insufficient. So, steel fiber reinforced shotcrete is applied to II~V grade rocks on domestic and foreign applications. And same amount of shotcrete is equally applied to tunnel roof and wall regardless of the applied rock load. Shotcrete is applied excessively rather than the original proposed value of RMR and Q-System. Thus, this study is to reevaluate the application part of plain shotcrete and steel fiber reinforced shotcrete of tunnel in Daebo granite, and to propose the reasonable application method of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete. Field test and numerical back analysis using measurements were performed to verify stability. According to results, if RMR values are the upper class in the III grade, it can be designed in accordance with upper grade. In addition, if rock condition is good as a mountain tunnel in Daebo granite, it can be applied for plain shotcrete to III grade rocks because there is also no stability problems. And although steel fiber reinforced shotcrete is applied only crown of the tunnel in IV grade rocks, it is possible to secure stability for falling rock by key-block.

Modern underground and tunnel works that the wet type shotcrete is getting widely designed and applied in a large scale project. Further to its applications, the needs of improving the performance of the shotcrete, such as new and developed additives and accelerators fur increasing the performance of shotcrete, become the most important issue in the field. The main objective of this study evaluated to performance of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete using alkali free based accelerator for the durability and high quality of shotcrete. The major test variables are accelerator type and its dosage. One type silicate based accelerator and one type aluminate based accelerator and one type alkali free based accelerator were used. The dosage of accelerators is determined by the manufactures and laboratory test condition. Compressive strength test results showed that the dosage of silicate and aluminate based accelerators caused reduction of mechanical properties of shotcrete. Compressive strength of alkali free based accelerator is more stable than of silicate and aluminate based accelerators. Also, according to the compressive strength and flexural test results, it was found that steel fiber reinforced shotcrete used alkali free based accelerator could attain significant improvement in the mechanical and flexural performance.
In this study, an experiment in the field was performed to analyze the influence of steel fiber and silica fume on the rebound ratios of shotcrete. The experimental parameters which are the reinforcing methods(steel fiber, wire mesh), steel fiber contents(0.0%, 0.5%. 0.75%, 1.0%), silica fume contents(0.0%, 10.0%), and the three placing parts(side wall, shoulder, crown) were chosun. According to the results for the side wall in this test, the larger the fiber contents are in case of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete, the less the rebound ratios are within the range of 20~35%, compared to the wire mesh reinforced shotcrte. And also, the reduced rebound ratios were vary larger in using steel fiber reinforced shotcrete with silica fume content of 10%, and these results are true of the shoulder and the crown, respectively. In addition, the four-stage phenomenon for the rebound of the SFRS were estimated in the view of the co-action between steel fiber and coarse aggregate based upon the existing two-stage analysis method.

This study evaluated the support performance of fiber-net integrated shotcrete in tunnel support system developed for the purpose of improving constructability and stability while fully performing its mechanical performance as a tunnel support materials by four-point bending test, two-dimensional numerical analysis, and cross-sectional analysis. As a result of evaluating the flexural performance through a four-point bending test, in the case of fiber-net reinforced shotcrete, the tensile performance of fiber-net resulted in a continuous increase in load after crack occurrence, unlike steel fiber reinforced shotcrete. Also, the results of the tunnel cross-sectional structure analysis for ground conditions and the cross-sectional analysis of fiber-net and steel fiber reinforced shotcrete showed that sufficient support performance can be exhibited even if the thickness of fiber-net reinforced shotcrete was reduced compared to the previous one. Additionally, through these results, the support pattern of fiber-net integrated shotcrete in tunnel support system, which can be applied efficiently to the construction sections requiring higher stability among the rock mass class III, was proposed.

Resently, Fiber Reinforced Concrete is used for not only preventing crack of concrete but also reinforcing general methods. Steel Fiber and PP(poly-propylene) Fiber are usually used as fiber reinforced materials. However, using these materials for shotcrete on Railway tunnel can cause some problems such as damage of pressure hose and shotcrete rebound. In addition, Steel fiber is an expensive material and it can cause safety problems during applying to shotcrete. PP Fiber can cause a problem in fiber balling during applying to shotcrete railway tunnel construction. A purpose of the research is applying a development of PET(Poly Etylene Terephtalate) fiber by recycling pet bottles to the shotcrete tunnel exposed to explosion spalling. To investigate the reinforcement effect of the PET fiber, some basic tests are accomplished to physical properties and explosion spalling by fire. As a result of the tests, a concrete mixing the PET fiber has stronger resistance effect in the explosion spalling by high temperature than another strong fiber concrete does, and that the former concrete is also equal or more effective on the result of the above tests to physical properties like compression and strain than the latter one is demonstrated.
A 5-20 cm thick shocrete has been routinely constructed for NATM tunneling method to stabilize and confine the excavated rock of tunnel construction site. A $40kg/m^3$ of steel fibers are usually mixed into such shotcrete but these steel fibers may not be evenly distributed depending on shotcrete machines, mixing ratios and excavated rock conditions. In this study, square column shotcrete-mimicked concrete specimens of $15cm{\times}15cm{\times}55cm$ were prepared with 5 equal layers and 5 or 20% cement ratio. The specimens were prepared with different reinforced-patterns: non-reinforced, middle layer-reinforced, 1, 3, and 5 layers-reinforced, or all layers reinforced. The specimens were air-cured for 7 days and tested for flexural strength. The influence of steel-fiber distribution on flexural strength and toughness of shotcrete-mimicked concrete specimens was investigated. In the case of a specimen with cement ratio of 20%, a flexural strength increased as a number of fiber-reinforced layer increased. The flexural strength of one-layer reinforced specimen showed 20% less than that of evenly fiber-distributed specimen. On the other hand, a specimen with cement ratio of 5% decreased as the number of fiber-reinforced layers increased. A toughness index increased as the number of fiber-reinforced layers increased, regardless of cement ratios. The toughness index of evenly fiber-distributed specimen showed 2-3 times as large as that of one-layer reinforced specimen.

The cement-based composites have relatively low tensile strength and toughness. The fiber addition is one of the most important ways of increasing the toughness of concrete. The steel fibers have been used conventionally in the shotcrete of tunnel lining. Recently, the structural synthetic fibers were developed and used frequently in some actual tunnel shotcreting in foreign countries. Now types of synthetic fibers have been developed in this study. The purpose of this study is to explore the strength and toughness characteristic of the concrete reinforced with synthetic fibers developed in this study. The result were compared with those of steel fiber reinforced concrete. It is seen that the performance of synthetic fiber reinforced concrete is good as much as that of steel fiber reinforced concrete, while the synthetic fibers have advantages in corrsion resistance and economy.

Nowadays, shotcrete plays an essential part in he construction of underground structures, and steel fiber is so useful for increasing the toughness of the concrete that is spotlighted at tunnel or pavement site. A variety of tests have been developed to measure and quantity the improvements achievable in steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) and shotcrete. But Korea doesn`t have specific standards in this respect, and the only criteria that KHC(Korea Highway Corporation) applies to tunnel shotcreting are flexural strength and toughness quotient. Test results in order to manage the quality of steel fiber reinforced concrete and shocrete are very affected by various test method. Therefore, this study deals with the test methodological effects on SFRC quality. The major interests are loading method, that is, load control and displacement control, loading velocity, support condition.

The present study developed shotcrete for fiber-net integrated tunnel support system, which consists of fiber-net support materials including netlike fiber and shotcrete and integration technology between support materials. In addition, in order to evaluate the field applicability of the developed tunnel support system and compare with the performance of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete, mock -up test was conducted on the mock -up structure. The test results show that in the case of shotcrete containing coarse aggregate(S20A5RP10-C), the excessive rebound rate occurred as the secondary shotcrete was dropped during construction due to the degradation in bond performance with fiber-net. Also, in the case of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete, the amount of cast shotcrete fell short of target value due to the fiber ball and the degradation of pumpability. On the other hand, the amount of cast mortar shotcrete(S20A5RP10-M) and the installation position of fiber-net were almost close to the target values, and the lower rebound rate occurred compared to the steel fiber reinforced shotcrete.
From the early 1980's, the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) has been developed as a one of the standard tunneling method in Korea. Owing to the results of many researches, the practical problems of shotcrete has been improved for a last decade. However, the excess amount of rebound still remains one of the critical problems in shotcrete technology. In order to improve for this rebound problem, recently developed cement mineral accelerator has been successfully applied to several NATM tunnels in Korea. An experimental investigation was carried out in order to verify the rebound characteristics of wet-mix Steel Fiber Reinforced Shotcrete (SFRS) with powder types cement mineral accelerator. Mortar setting test, SEM analysis, bonding test under spring water condition and rebound test were conducted. From the result, wet-mix SFRS with cement mineral acelerator exhibited excellent bonding characteristics even spring water condition and less rebound ratio compared to the conventional liquid accelerator.
