  • In order to compare the electrochemical performance with that of Calomel Electrode, MnO2 solid-state-electrode was fabricated and its potential and impedance were measured in chloride aqueous solution. As a result, the SCPS without chloride ions showed a potential of -200 mV or more and an impedance over 2000 Ωcm, but the potential below -600 mV and the impedance below -200 Ωcm showed as the chloride concentration in the solution increased. It is considered electrochemical studies on the corrosion of rebar are necessary for the MOE, which shows the same tendency as SCE and exhibits electrochemical performance, over the Mortar level in the future.

  • In a concrete member under pure tension, the stress in concrete is uniformly distributed over the whole concrete section. It is supposed that a local bond failure occurs at each crack, and there is a relative slip between steel and surrounding concrete. The compatibility of deformation between the concrete and reinforcement is thus not maintained. The bond transfer length is a length of reinforcement adjacent to the crack where the compatibility of strain between the steel and concrete is not maintained because of partially bond breakdown and slip. It is an empirical measure of the bond characteristics of the reinforcement, incorporating bar diameter and surface characteristics such as texture. Based on results from a series of previously conducted long-term tests on eight restrained reinforced concrete slab specimens and material properties including creep and shrinkage of two concrete batches, the ratio of final bond transfer length after all shrinkage cracking, to THE initial bond transfer length is presented.

  • The necessities of development of foundation having minimized occupying area and construction time are required for overpass in the downtown area by which bimodal tram will pass a crossway. We are studying a single column drilled pier foundation which is continuous from pier to pile foundation. Due to the increased resisting moment by reinforced steel which is ranged from the upper part of pile to lower part of column above ground, it can be possible to make a smaller pile-section and lessen the bar reinforcing. And for the excavation work is possible with smaller equipment, this foundation has a improved constructability and economical efficiency. This foundation needs smaller amount of concrete and has a small self-weight. It has an effect on improving resistance against earthquake due to improved ductility in addition to improved rigidity by interaction between concrete and steel.

  • An analytical study to trace the nonlinear structural behavior of composite beams is undertaken to include the nonlinear material properties of steel sheeting, reinforcing steel bar and concrete. To trace Moment-curvature relations, sectioning analysis method and two simple formulas are developed. A simple power model which has been originally used to expect the flexural capacity of the beam to column connections is proposed and the second formula is composed of two experimental functions to express the Moment-curvature relation in the elastic and plastic range separately. The load-deflection behavior of the beams has been simulated by the step-by-step numerical integration method and is compared with the test results available.

  • A study of adiabatic shear band formation and propagation of 4340 steel was done using the stepped speciment which was subjected to high velocity impact. The high velocity impact was performed on compression Hopkinson bar impact machine. After the controlled impact, the specimen was prepared for visual inspection. Numerical simulation was also performed with same geometrical dimension using explicit time integration finite element code. Experimental results were then compared with the numerical prediction. It was found that the numerical prediction is quite accurate, average thickness of adiabatic shear band is about $10{\mu}m$, the macro crack around shoulder is due to folding, and the deformation control ring is effective to freeze the propagation of adiabatic shear band.

  • This is a basic experimental study elaborated on reinforced concrete beam under load, especially crack behavior, bending stiffness, deflection and strain of concrete and reinforced bar for reinforced concrete and steel fiber reinforced concrete beam in relation to fatigue loading in service ability limit states. Test parameters are concrete strength, volume. and type of steel fiber and fatigue loading in service ability limit states to be changed. In order to obtain the actual conditions of various working loads for the aforesaid reinforced concrete beam, minimum load is applied 10$\%$ of maximum design load and maximum load was applied 60$\%$, 80$\%$ and 100$\%$ respectively. Under the same condition, the test was implemented up to 1 million cycle and the result was thoroughly analyzed and reviewed.

  • The purpose of this experiment is to verify processing crack direction and state by the corrosion of electrifying re-bar in the salt water. The result of this experiment is the fact that the first crack appear on the surface of water-because of supplying of oxygen and water. The crack processing is on a surface to be contacted by air and to bottom as mainly the vertical direction from a surface of water. The crack by corrosion of steel reinforcing is emerged by the inside of concrete rather than surface concrete.

  • The first diagonal cracking and ultimate shear load of reinforced girder made of ultra high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) were investigated in this paper. Eleven girders were tested in which eight girders failed in shear. A simplified formulation for the first diagonal cracking load was proposed. An analytical model to predict the ultimate shear load was formulated based on the two bounds theory. A fiber reinforcing parameter was constituted based on the random assumption of steel fiber uniform distribution. The predicted values were compared with the conventional predictions and the test results. The proposed equation can be used for the first cracking status analysis, while the proposed equations for computing the ultimate shear strength can be used for the ultimate failure status analysis, which can also be utilized for numerical limit analysis of reinforced UHPFRC girder. The established fiber reinforcing theoretical model can also be a reference for micro-mechanics analysis of UHPFRC.

  • This paper aims to study the local bond stress-slip behavior of reinforcing bars embedded in lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC). The experimental variables of the local bond stress-slip tests include concrete strength (20, 40 and 60 MPa), deformed steel bar size (#4, #6 and #8) and coarse aggregate (normal weight aggregate, reservoir sludge lightweight aggregate and waterworks sludge lightweight aggregate). The test results show that the ultimate bond strength increased with the increase of concrete compressive strength. Moreover, the larger the rib height to the diameter ratio ($h/d_b$) of the deformed steel bars is, the greater the ultimate bond stress is. In addition, the suggestion value of the CEB-FIP Model Code to the LWAC specimen's ultimate bond stress is more conservative than that of the normal weight concrete.

  • The first thing in remodelling of an apartment is the enlargement of living area, which is usually attained through extending balcony or corridor to the outside of the building. As a reasonable solution to the extension of floor a method of rigid connection in which steel bars are injected into the existing slab and concrete of newly building slab is installed with proper reinforcement is proposed in this research. To verify the structural performance of the method bending tests have been carried out for seven slab specimens.
