  • This paper deals with steady-state analysis of a single-phase line-start permanent magnet synchronous motor. In order to analyze the steady-state characteristics, the asymmetric single-phase line-start synchronous motor is converted to the symmetric two-phase synchronous motor, that is, the asymmetric magnetic field is separated from the positive and the negative symmetric components using symmetrical-component theory. The analysis method of the synchronous motor on the d-q axis coordinates is used for the positive component and the equivalent circuit of the induction motor is applied for the negative component analysis. Moreover, d-q axis inductance considering current phase angle is applied to positive component analysis for precise characteristic analysis. In order to validate the proposed analysis method, the analysis results are compared with the experimental results.

  • In this study, two stage transfer line with limited repair capability is modeled to formulate optimal dynamic repair priority policy. The method of Markov Chains is used to analyze the analytical model of this line. An efficient algorithm is developed, utilizing the block tridiagonal structure of the transition probability matrix, to obtain the steady state probabilities and system performance measures, such as the steady state production rate of the line and the average in-process inventory in the interstage buffer.

  • Shape changes of a workpiece in an Eulerian Finite Element analysis for the steady state, three-roll-stand shape rolling are modelled. Although an Eulerian analysis has many advantages for the steady state rolling problems, it necessitates an assumption about the unknown shape of the control volume. In almost all cases, the assumed control volume does not match the final shape and the control volume should be updated. This update can be accomplished by performing a free surface correction. The final shape of a material point, which has a spherical shape at the inlet, can be also predicted by integrating a deformation gradient along a stream line. Analyses of three-roll-stand shape rolling are performed and the results are discussed in detail.

  • Simulation output is generally stochastic and autocorrelated, and includes the initial condition bias. To exclude the bias, the determination of truncation point has been one of important issues for the steady-state simulation output analysis. In this paper, two methods are presented for detection of truncation point in order to estimate efficiently the steady-state measure of simulation output. They are based on the Euclidean distance equation, and the backpropagation algorithm in Neural Networks. The experimental results obtained by M/M/1 and M/M/2 show that the proposed methods are very promising with respect to coverage and relative bias. The methods could be used for the on-line analysis of simulation outputs.

  • Power distribution onboard vessel is typically configured as ungrounded system due to the ability to continuously supply electric power even when an earth fault occurs. The impedance connections between 3 phase power lines and hull cause the line-to-hull voltages to become unstable and increased in case the impedances are unbalanced, bringing the situation susceptible to electric shock and deterioration of insulation material. Also the line-to-hull voltage can reach to a certain maximum value in the steady state depending on the distributed capacitances and grounding resistances between lines and hull. This study suggests how to find and calculate the maximum line-to-hull voltage in view of magnitude and phase angle based on the vector diagram.

  • A new 3-phase line-interactive UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply) system with parallel-series active power-line conditioning capability using AC line reactor and two four-leg PWM VSCs(Voltage Source Converters) was introduced recently, In this paper, the strategy of voltage control in suggested UPS system is explained. The objective of proposed voltage controllers in parallel(shunt) and series PWM VSC is to guarantee satisfactory characteristics in steady state and transient state.

  • This paper suggests an improved technique to establish the modeling regarding steady and transient state on three phase-in one cryostat type HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) cable. The proposed modeling is established using EMTP/ATPDraw and TACS and MODELS provided by that. It has higher accuracy than the conventional method, as the actual HTS cable is modelled. Steady and transient state analysis performed by EMTP/ATPDraw calculate the current of conductor, shield and former, respectively. In case of the transient state modeled quench state occurred by a single line-to-ground fault, current of conductor shield and former are also calculated, respectively. Especially, various fault resistances and angles are considered to improve the reliability during transient state analysis. Analysis results reveal that the proposed technique improves the accuracy of modeling.

  • In this paper, low level control algorithms of a metal belt CVT are suggested. A feedforward PID control algorithm is adopted for line pressure based on a steady state relationship between the input duty and the line pressure. Experimental results show that feedforward PID control of the line pressure guarantees a fast response while reducing the pressure undershoot which may result in belt slip. For ratio control, a fuzzy logic is suggested by considering the CVT shift dynamics and on-off characteristics of the ratio control valve. It is found from experimental results that a desired speed ratio can be achieved at steady state in spite of the fluctuating primary pressure. It is expected that the low level control algorithms for the line pressure and speed ratio suggested in this study can be implemented in a prototype CVT.

  • A hybrid HVDC system that is composed of line commutated converter (LCC) at the rectifier side and voltage source converter (VSC) in series with LCC at the inverter side is studied in this paper. The start-up strategy, DC fault ride-through capability, and fault recovery strategy for the hybrid HVDC system are proposed. The steady state and dynamic performances under start-up, AC fault, and DC fault scenarios are analyzed based on a bipolar hybrid HVDC system. Furthermore, the immunity of the LCC inverter in hybrid HVDC to commutation failure is investigated. The simulation results in PSCAD/EMTDC show that the hybrid HVDC system exhibits favorable steady state and dynamic performances, in particular, low susceptibility to commutation failure, excellent DC fault ride-through, and fast fault recovery capability. Results also indicate that the hybrid HVDC system can be a good alternative for large-capacity power transmission over a long distance byoverhead line.
