The iterative boundary element method (IBEM) developed originally before for cavitating two-dimensional (2-D) and three-dimensional (3-D) hydrofoils moving under free surface is modified and applied to the case of 2-D (two-dimensional) airfoils and 3-D (three-dimensional) wings over water. The calculation of the steady-state flow characteristics of an inviscid, incompressible fluid past 2-D airfoils and 3-D wings above free water surface is of practical importance for air-assisted marine vehicles such as some racing boats including catamarans with hydrofoils and WIG (Wing-In-Ground) effect crafts. In the present paper, the effects of free surface both on 2-D airfoils and 3-D wings moving steadily over free water surface are investigated in detail. The iterative numerical method (IBEM) based on the Green's theorem allows separating the airfoil or wing problems and the free surface problem. Both the 2-D airfoil surface (or 3-D wing surface) and the free surface are modeled with constant strength dipole and constant strength source panels. While the kinematic boundary condition is applied on the airfoil surface or on the wing surface, the linearized kinematic-dynamic combined condition is applied on the free surface. The source strengths on the free surface are expressed in terms of perturbation potential by applying the linearized free surface conditions. No radiation condition is enforced for downstream boundary in 2-D airfoil and 3-D wing cases and transverse boundaries in only 3-D wing case. The method is first applied to 2-D NACA0004 airfoil with angle of attack of four degrees to validate the method. The effects of height of 2-D airfoil from free surface and Froude number on lift and drag coefficients are investigated. The method is also applied to NACA0015 airfoil for another validation with experiments in case of ground effect. The lift coefficient with different clearance values are compared with those of experiments. The numerical method is then applied to NACA0012 airfoil with the angle of attack of five degrees and the effects of Froude number and clearance on the lift and drag coefficients are discussed. The method is lastly applied to a rectangular 3-D wing and the effects of Froude number on wing performance have been investigated. The numerical results for wing moving under free surface have also been compared with those of the same wing moving above free surface. It has been found that the free surface can affect the wing performance significantly.
Purpose: To examine the coloring condition of titanium spectacle frames with various colors by using anodization method. Methods: We made an anodization coater. Platinum plate with $3{\times}3cm^2$ was used for a cathode and titanium spectacle frame specimens was mounted on an anode in an electrolyte. An electric source device were designed to supply steady state current. The color of the coated spectacle frame specimens were measured by a spectrophotometer equipped with an integrating sphere. We use CIE $L^*a^*b$ color system as chromaticity coordinates. Results: The thickness of $TiO_2$ of titanium spectacle frame specimens was varied as controlling current flow time for electrodes. The specimens with various kinds of color as a walnut, a yellow brown, a navy blue, a blue, a light blue, a mung bean, a yellowish green, a light purple, a purple, a flower pink, a bluish green, an emerald, and a green color etc. were obtained. The values of CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ for these specimens were measured and analyzed to be changed clockwise in chromaticity coordinates as the thickness of $TiO_2$ increases. Conclusions: We identified the coloring mechanism by anodization method in titanium spectacle frame specimens.

When an oil-spilling accident occurs at sea, it is of the primary importance to predict the amount of oil leakage for the swift response and decision-making. The simplest method of oil-leakage estimation is based on the hydrostatic pressure balance between oil inside the tank and seawater outside of leakage hole, that is the so-called Torricelli equilibrium relation. However, there exists discrepancy between the reality and the Torricelli relation, since the latter is obtained from the quasi-steady treatment of Bernoulli equation ignoring viscous friction. A preliminary experiment has been performed to find out the oil-leaking speed and shape. Soy-bean oil inside the inner tank was ejected into water of the outer tank through four different leakage holes to record the amount of oil leakage. Furthermore, a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) method was utilized to simulate the experimental situation. The Wavier-Stokes equations were solved for two-density flow of oil and water. VOF method was employed to capture the shape of their interface. It is found that the oil-leaking speed varies due to the frictional resistance of the leakage hole passage dependent on its aspect ratio. The Torricelli factor relating the speed predicted by using the hydrostatic balance and the real leakage speed is assessed. For the present experimental setup, Torricelli factors were in the range of 35%~55% depending on the aspect ratio of leakage holes. On the other hand, CFD results predicted that Torricelli factor could be 52% regardless of the aspect ratio of the leakage holes, when the frictional resistance of leakage hole passage was neglected.

In this paper, a numerical analysis is carried out to study the characteristics of supercavitating flows and the drag of relatively simple two-dimensional and axisymmetric bodies which can be used for supercavity generation device, cavitator, of a high-speed underwater vehicle. In order to investigate the suitability of numerical models, cavity flows around the hemispherical head form and two-dimensional wedge are calculated with combinations of three turbulence models(standard $k-{\epsilon}$, realizable $k-{\epsilon}$, Reynolds stress) and two cavitation models(Schnerr-Sauer, Zwart-Gerber-Belamri). From the results, it is confirmed that the calculated cavity flow is more affected by the turbulence model than the cavitation model. For the calculation of steady state cavity flows, the convergence in case of the realizable $k-{\epsilon}$ model is better than the other turbulence models. The numerical result of the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model is changed less by turbulence model and more robust than the Zwart-Gerber-Belamri model. Thus the realizable $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model and the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model are applied to calculate supercavitating flows around disks, two dimensional $10^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$ wedges. In case of the disk, the cavitation number dependences of the cavity size and the drag coefficient predicted are similar to either experimental data or Reichardt's semi-empirical equations, but the drag coefficient is overestimated about 3% higher than the Reichardt's equation. In case of the wedges, the cavitation number dependences of the cavity size are similar to experimental data and Newman's linear theory, and the agreement of the cavity length predicted and Newman's linear theory becomes better as decreasing cavitation number. However, the drag coefficients of wedges agree more with experimental data than those of Newman's analytic solution. The cavitation number dependences of the drag coefficients of both the disk and the wedge appear linear and simple formula for estimating the drag of supercavitating disks and wedges are suggested. Consequently, the CFD scheme of this study can be applied for numerical analysis of supercavitating flows of the cavitator and the cavitator design.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the removal of ammonium nitrogen by biological nitrification in raw water containing LAS using BAC. At batch teats, LAS removal by ozone followed the first order reaction, and the rate constants(k) by ozone dose 1, 3mg/min.L were $0.040min^{-1}$, $0.062min^{-1}$ respectively. Therefore, the more ozone was dosed, the higher LAS was removed The reaction between ozone and ammonium nitrogen also followed the first order, and rate constants(k) at pH7,8 and 9 were $8.9{\times}10^{-4}min-1$, $3.8{\times}10^{-3}min^{-1}$, and $2.9{\times}10^{-2}min^{-1}$ respectively at ozone dose of 3mg/min.L . Therefore, ammonium nitrogen was little removed by ozone under neutral pH of 7. The continuous flow apparatus had four sets composed of a ozone contacter and a GAC column. Through continuous filtration test for 50days, the following conclusions were derived; (1) LAS was removed 23%, 30% respectively by ozone dose 1, 3mg/L, and was not detected in all column effluents during the period of experiment. Therefore, it appeared that adsorption capacities of each column still remained. (2) Ammonium nitrogen concentration after ozone contact varied little in raw Water because pH of raw water was from 6 to 7, and was transfered to nitrite and nitrate within GAC columns as the result of staged nitrification. After 30days, nitrite was not detected in all column effluents due to biological equilbrium between nitro semonas and nitrobacter Average removals of ammonium nitrogen in each column after the lapse of 30days were the following; ${\cdot}$ column A (ozone dose 3mg/L, EBCT 9.5min): about 100% ${\cdot}$ column B (ozone dose 1mg/L, EBCT 9.5min): 91% ${\cdot}$ column C (ozone dose 3mg/L, EBCT 14.2min): about 100% ${\cdot}$ column D (ozone dose 0mg/L, EBCT 9.5min): 53% Though column A and C reached nitrification of about 100%, column C (longer EBCT than column A) was more stable than column A. (3) After backwash, nitrification reached steady state within 5 to 8 hours. Therefore, nitrification was not greatly affected by backwash. (4) According to the nitrification capacity in depth of column A, C, where 100% nitrification occured. LAS was removed within 20cm, while ammonium nitrogen required more depth to be removed by nitrification.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of guar gum on the rheological behaviors, sensory attributes, and consumer acceptability of soft tofu stew sauce. Five different soft tofu stew sauces were commercially manufactured with various levels of guar gum (0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.5%). Twelve sensory attributes of the stew sauces were identified by nine trained descriptive panelists, whereas hedonic levels of the stew sauces were assessed by a group of 51 consumers. Steady flow of the stew sauces were measured by a rheometer. Significant differences were observed in terms of sensory saltiness and viscosity among the products. For the consumer test, 0.1% guar gum-added product was most liked by consumers. Partial least square regression showed sensory shellfish, green onion, and shrimp flavors to be key factors affecting overall acceptability for the stew sauces. For rheological behaviors, 0.0, 0.1, and 0.2% guar gum-added products showed newtonian behaviors ($R^2$=0.99 by power law model), whereas 0.4 and 0.5% products followed pseudoplastic behaviors ($R^2$=0.99 by power law model). Based on the established equivalence table using rheological and consumer data, smaller than 0.0114 ($Pa{\cdot}s$) of the apparent viscosity should be necessary to guarantee 'slightly like' category in a consumer hedonic test. It seems that addition of guar gum not only influenced rheological properties but overall acceptability for the stew sauces.

The long-term water-quality change of Asan Bay by the influx of polluted disposal water was predicted through a simulation with an Eco-hydrodynamic model. Eco-hydrodynamic model is composed of a multi-level hydrodynamic model to simulate the water flow and an ecosystem model to simulate water quality. The water quality simulation revealed that the COD(Chemical Oxygen Demand), dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN) and dissolved inorganic phosphorus(DIP) are increased at 5 stations for the subsequent 6 months after the influx of the effluent. COD, DIN and DIP showed gradual decreases in concentration during the period of one to two years after the increase of last 6 months and reached steady state for next three to ten years. Concentration levels of COD, DIN, and DIP showed the increase by the ranges of $11{\sim}67%$, $10{\sim}67%$, and $0.5{\sim}7%$, respectively, which represents that the COD and DIN are the most prevalent pollutants among substances in the effluent through the sewage treatment plant. The current water quality of Asan Bay based on the observed COD, TN and TP concentrations ranks into the class II of the Korean standards for marine water quality but the water quality would deteriorate into class III in case that the disposal water by the sewage plant is discharged into the Bay.
Slot coating has been widely spread in photo resist coating on glass for flat display monitor. High quality of coating is required as high quality of image in display is needed. Coating quality in the slot coating is divided into nozzle direction quality and machine direction quality. Nozzle direction quality is related to flow uniformity inside the die whereas machine direction quality is related to die lip design and operational conditions. In this study coating uniformity in the machine direction of slot coating has been investigated through computer simulation. Die lip angle and die lip length were considered as outside die geometry and coating speed was considered as operational condition. Coating behavior has been analyzed and coating quality has been evaluated through computer simulation. Coating thickness decreased and coating uniformity increased as coating speed increased. However, the stability of meniscus formation was reduced and subsequently coating stability was reduced as coating speed increased. Coating thickness deviation decreased as die lip angle increased in down stream die. Coating thickness decreased and time to reaching steady state increased as increased die lip length in down stream die.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the prediction accuracy of FDS(Fire Dynamic Simulator) for the thermal and chemical characteristics of under-ventilated fire with unsteady fire growth in a semi-closed compartment. To this end, a standard doorway width of the full-scale ISO 9705 room was modified to 0.1 m and the flow rate of heptane fuel was increased linearly with time (until maximum 2.0 MW based on ideal heat release rate) using a spray nozzle located at the center of enclosure. To verify the capability of FDS, the predicted results were compared with a previous experimental data under the identical fire conditions. It was observed that with an appropriate grid system, the numerically predicted temperature and heat flux inside the compartment showed reasonable agreement with the experimental data. On the other hand, there were considerable limitations to predict accurately the unsteady behaviors of CO and $CO_2$ concentration under the condition of continuous fire growth. These results leaded to a discrepancy between the present evaluation of FDS and the previous evaluation conducted for steady-state under-ventilated fires. It was important to note that the prediction of transient CO production characteristics using FDS was approached carefully for the under-ventilated fire in a semi-closed compartment.

Through the early 1900's, the evolution of the surface condenser was closely tied to the development of steam engine and the turbine. As the chemical and petroleum industries evolved in the 1900's, the use of surface condensers in many different processes. Today, industry uses condensers in many shapes and sizes. The actual condensation process occurs on the outside surface of tubes. The nature of this surface geometry affects the condenser's heat transfer performance. The first condensers were built with plain tubes. As tube manufacturing techniques advanced, manufacturers started making tubes with integral fins. In the 1940's, fin densities were limited to about 600 to 700 fins per meter(fpm) because of manufacturing procedure. Today new manufacturing techniques allow production of tubes with fin densities ranging from 750 to 1600 fpm. The integral-fin tubes investigated in this paper are nominally 19 mm diameter. Eight tubes have been used with trapezodially shaped integral-fins having fin density from 748 to 1654 fpm and 10, 30 grooves. For comparison, tests are made using a plain tube having the same inside diameter and an outside diameter equal to that at the root of the fins for the finned tubes. Betty and Katz's theoretical modelis is used to predict the R-11 condensation coefficient on horizontal integral-fin tubes having 748, 1024 and 1299 fpm. Experiments are carried out using R-11 as working fluid. The refrigerant condensates at a saturation state of $30^{\circ}C$ on the outside tube surface cooled by coolant. The amount of noncondensable gases present in the test loop is reduced to a negligible value by repeated purging. For a given heat input to the boiler and given cooling water flow rate, all test data are taken at steady state. The observed heat transfer enhancement for the finned and grooved tubes significantly exceeded that to be expected on grounds of increased area. For the eight fin tubes and one plain tube tested, the best performance has been obtained with a tube having a fin density of 1299 fpm, and a fin bight of 1.2mm and 30 grooves.
