Weight reduction behavior is common among adolescent girls. The present study examined the status of weight reduction behavior and factors affecting the behavioral intention of weight reduction using the Health Belief Model (HBM) for female middle school students by weight category. Survey data was collected from three girl's middle schools in Gyeongju, Korea. A total of 299 female middle school students participated in this study. The questionnaire had questions about general characteristics, weight reduction behavior, and variables of HBM (perceived threat, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, self-efficacy in dietary life and exercise, and behavioral intention of weight reduction). Descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis were applied to analyze the variables. A higher percentage of students in the overweight group attempted weight reduction than those in the underweight and the normal weight groups (P < 0.001). Among students who had attempted weight reduction, 73% tried diet therapy, while 78% tried exercise. Students in the normal and overweight groups showed significantly higher threat (P < 0.01) and cues to action (P < 0.001) than those in the underweight group. As for perceived benefits, barriers, and self-efficacy in dietary life and exercise, there were no significant differences among weight groups. Students in the overweight group showed the strongest intention of weight reduction and there were significant differences among the three weight groups (P < 0.001). Perceive threat (P < 0.01), cues to action (P < 0.001), and perceived self-efficacy (P < 0.01) were significantly associated to behavioral intention of weight reduction for all respondents. For the underweight group, perceived threat (P < 0.05) and perceived self-efficacy (P < 0.01) were the significant variables. For the overweight group, cue to action was the significant variable (P < 0.05).

Health care marketing can be defined as a process of developing, promoting and administering health care services for the benefits of hospitals as well as consumers. Researchers have reported that one of the significant attributes in the selection of hospital is a client's perceived image of the hospitals. Especially the image of nursing services was one of the important factors of the hospital image. The main purposes of the study were 1) to define the positioning about 5 hospitals' image of nursing services. 2) to define the effects of image attributes to the iamage of hospital nursing services. Eighteen hundred questionnaires were distributed to the parents of middle schools and high schools in Seoul. Among them, 1340 cases were returned but 849 cases were turned out to be useful data and used in final analysis. In data analysis, $SPSS\;/PC^+$ and PC-MDS programs were used for descriptive statistics, multiple regression, and drawing perceptual maps. The image of hospital nursing services was measured developed by the author through literature review and content validation. Reliability coefficients was found to be statistically appropriate level of confidence(Cronbach's Alpha=.8617). The results were as follows : 3) The perceptual map shows that hospital A, B and C,D,E were divided into five groups(See Fig. 1). That is, hospital A, and B are located in a close position and hopital C & E are located at opposite position between X-axis, Hospital D was located in the middle area of the hospital C and:E. In conclusion, this research visiblely depicted perceptual maps using MDS of the consumer's image about hospital nursing services. Since hopital nursing services were differentiated by the image attributes in consumer's perception, the results of the study can help hospital managers plan marketing strategy according to their strong points or weak points. Because the necessity of marketing in recent health care was importantly recognized, this research which is adopting posititioning concept will contribute to the consumers and hospital organizations.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze factors affecting meaning of life in adolescents. Methods: Data were collected from April 5 to June 20, 2010. The participants for this study were 343 Korean middle and high school students, recruited from four middle and high schools located in Seoul. Data collection was conducted through the use of 7 questionnaires. The data were analyzed with the SPSS WIN 12.0 program using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Results: 1) The mean total item score for the meaning of life scales was 2.99, which was slightly high. 2) There was a significant relationship between meaning of life and self-esteem, self control, parenting attitude, family satisfaction, school adjustment, and career maturity. 3) Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that self-esteem, family satisfaction, school adjustment, parenting attitude and career maturity were predictors of meaning of life and accounted for 57.1% of the variance in meaning of life. Conclusion: Self-esteem, family satisfaction, school adjustment, parenting attitude and career maturity were variables influencing meaning of life in adolescents. These results indicate a need to develop nursing interventions to increase self-esteem, family satisfaction, school adjustment, parenting attitude and career maturity in order to improve meaning of life for adolescents.

Since the Shimane Prefecture government in Japan enacted "Takeshima Day" in March 2005, it has held commemorative ceremonies with Japanese politicians present each year on February 22. Japan has marked Dokdo as its territory in elementary and middle high school textbooks, and the number of such references has been increasing in recent years. Shimane Prefecture, which is the area nearest to Dokdo is strengthening Dokdo education in its geography classes at elementary and middle schools as part of regional studies. The study and education on Dokdo was begun by social studies teachers in the Oki Islands in Shimane Prefecture, but now extends throughout the prefecture. The auxiliary educational materials regarding Dokdo produced in Shimane Prefecture include teaching guidelines for teachers, worksheets for students, CDs containing statistics and picture files, and two kinds of DVD movie clips for each grade. In particular, schools teach the damage to the Japanese fishery industry caused by Korea's illegal occupation of Dokdo. This will likely form anti-Korean sentiments among Japanese students. It is hoped that Korean and Japanese scholars will work together to develop Dokdo auxiliary textbooks in order to improve the correct historical understanding of Dokdo.

According to the educational statistics and information data, there were 11,317 elementary school, middle school and high school facility as of 2011. During the post decade, 1,256 schools are increased. The school facility maintenance is the important factor for the whole facility life cycle because it determines the useful life of a facility. Current school facility maintenance practices tend to ad-hok kery, namely, repairment is made after a problem is discovered. The purpose of this study is to propose the new maintenance works and management system to improve the process of maintenance. In addition, the authors suggested school facility improvement plan based upon the questionnaire survey of related management officials.
The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of households with a negative cash flow. The Household Budget Survey conducted in 2000, 2005, and 2010 by the Bureau of Statistics in South Korea were used for this study. The households used in this study were divided into four groups according to their income levels; they were categorized the lowest, low, middle, and high income groups. This study made several findings regarding households with a negative/positive cash flow. Firstly, the demographic and economic characteristics were different between those who have a negative cash flow and those with a positive cash flow. A female household head, a household head age 65 and older, a household head with a lower educational attainment, an unemployed household head, and the presence of a child/children in schools were related with the household deficit. Secondly, the households with a positive cash flow had a higher income level compared to the households with a negative cash flow, while the households with a negative cash flow had a much higher consumption level compared to the households with a positive cash flow. Thirdly, the household deficit to total income ratio of the lowest income group was higher when compared to any other income group. Lastly, the multivariate statistics showed that households including a child/children in schools are more likely to be a household with a negative cash flow. Especially, the expenditures on education and transportation were related with the likelihood of a household deficit.

This study evaluated the quality of school milk programs and analyzed the relative importance of school milk program selection attributes using conjoint analysis. The survey was conducted on students from middle and high schools in metropolitan cities that provide school milk programs. Responses were received from 414 students and the data was subjected to frequency analysis, t-test, and conjoint analysis using the SPSS Statistics Package. While evaluating white milk in the school milk program, middle school students rated 'packaging condition' (4.23) the highest, high school students rated 'nutrition' (4.64) the highest, and their evaluation of all the quality attributes was significantly different from that of middle school students (p<0.001). Overall satisfaction scores too, showed a significant difference between high school (4.46) and middle school students (4.01) (p<0.001). Processed milk & dairy products had the highest satisfaction score in the attribute of 'serving time' (4.57). The relative importance of the choice attributes of the school milk program was in the order of 'number per item' (62.260%), 'temperature' (25.708%), and 'serving method' (12.032%) for all students. The school milk program most preferred by all students and middle school students was to provide milk at a refrigerated temperature, select white milk three times a week, processed milk, fermented milk, and cheese twice a week, and provide it at the desired time.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of health education based on the health belief model (HBM) to the prevention of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) in middle school students. Methods: A pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group was designed for the purpose of this study. A total of 212 students (134 in the experimental group and 78 in the control group) of two middle schools in Seoul were enrolled for the study. Health education of two 45-minutes sessions over two weeks were provided. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, t-test, ANCOVA and repeated measures ANOVA with Bonferroni post-hoc test, using the SPSS version 21.0. Results: There were significant differences between experimental group and control group with reference to perceived susceptibility (F=7.862, p=.006), perceived severity (F=8.291, p=.004), perceived benefits (F=20.311, p<.001), and perceived barriers (F=5.628, p=.019) after health education were provided. We also observed sustained health education effects of perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, and perceived barriers in the experimental group for up to 4 weeks after health education were provided. Conclusion: The health education to prevent NIHL based on the HBM improved the health beliefs of the middle school students. Health education on the HBM for the prevention of NIHL should be provided at the level of middle school.
This study aims to investigate students' statistical thinking through statistical processes in different instructional settings: Teacher-centered instruction vs. student-centered learning. We first developed instructional materials that allowed students to experience all the processes of statistics, including data collection, data analysis, data representation, and interpretation of the results. Using the instructional materials for four classes, we collected and analyzed the data from 57 seventh graders' discourse and artifacts from two different instructional settings using the analytic framework generated on the basis of literature review. The results showed that students felt difficulty particularly in the process of data collection and graph representations. In addition, even though data description has been heavily emphasized for data analysis in statistics education, it is surprisingly discovered that students had a hard time to understand the relationship between data and representations. Also, there were relationships between students' statistical thinking and instructional settings. Even though both groups of students showed difficulty in data collection and graph representations of the data, there were significant differences between the groups in terms of their performance. Whereas students from student-centered learning class outperformed in making decisions considering verification and justification, students from teacher-centered lecture class did better in problems requiring accuracy than the counterpart. The results from the study provide meaningful implications on developing curriculum and instructional methods for statistics education.
Purpose: This study was performed to identify the influencing factors on alienation among high school students. Method: Data was collected by questionnaires from 550 students of academic and vocational high schools in G city. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Result: The scores of alienation among students in financially lower middle class and lower class were higher than those of the upper middle class students, resulting in significant differences(F=6.87, p=.00). A sense of alienation showed a significantly negative correlation with the scores of responding parenting style(r=-.32), family cohesion(r=-.33), school attachment(r=-.51), academic performance(r=-.34), peer relationships(r=-.38), self-control(r=-.43), and social skills(r=-.33). The most powerful predictor of alienation among high school students was school attachment and the variance explained was 26%. A combination of school attachment, self control, peer relationships, family cohesion, demanding parenting style, and academic performance account for 40% of the variance in alienation among high school students. Conclusion: This study suggests that school attachment, self control, peer relationships, family cohesion, demanding parenting style, and academic performance are significant influencing factors on alienation in high school students. Therefore, nursing strategy is needed to manage these revealed factors.
