  • This study aims to investigate students' statistical thinking through statistical processes in different instructional settings: Teacher-centered instruction vs. student-centered learning. We first developed instructional materials that allowed students to experience all the processes of statistics, including data collection, data analysis, data representation, and interpretation of the results. Using the instructional materials for four classes, we collected and analyzed the data from 57 seventh graders' discourse and artifacts from two different instructional settings using the analytic framework generated on the basis of literature review. The results showed that students felt difficulty particularly in the process of data collection and graph representations. In addition, even though data description has been heavily emphasized for data analysis in statistics education, it is surprisingly discovered that students had a hard time to understand the relationship between data and representations. Also, there were relationships between students' statistical thinking and instructional settings. Even though both groups of students showed difficulty in data collection and graph representations of the data, there were significant differences between the groups in terms of their performance. Whereas students from student-centered learning class outperformed in making decisions considering verification and justification, students from teacher-centered lecture class did better in problems requiring accuracy than the counterpart. The results from the study provide meaningful implications on developing curriculum and instructional methods for statistics education.

  • Anecdotes can produce an emotional and simple response that decreases stress and anxiety in a classroom. The use of anecdotes in building concepts of statistics can support an effective way of teaching and learning statistics. Particularly, we demonstrate several anecdotes including pictures as the medium of image that are designed to motivate statistical ideas by placing them at the beginning of a lecture and by appealing to prospective teachers weighed down. Our purpose is that under the constructivist view, prospective teachers have an opportunity effectively to teach statistical concepts using humorous anecdotes and to experience significant beliefs on identifying some frequent misconceptions in statistics. At this procedure, the anecdotal teaching practice is concerned with describing and evaluating many humorous anecdotes we have found useful in teaching introductory statistics. We hope that this paper can be helpful to prospective teachers who will teach students such topics as descriptive statistics, sampling, and hypothesis testing.

  • Few studies are found in literature on estimation of population quantiles using the method of ranked set sampling (RSS). The optimal RSS strategy is to select observations with at most two fixed rank order statistics from different ranked sets. In this paper, a near optimal unbalanced RSS model for estimating pth(0 < p < 1) population quantile is proposed. Main advantage of this model is to use each rank order statistics and is distributionfree. The asymptotic relative efficiency (ARE) for balanced RSS, unbalanced optimal and proposed near-optimal methods are computed for different values of p. We also compared these AREs with respect to simple random sampling. The results show that proposed unbalanced RSS performs uniformly better than balanced RSS for all set sizes and is very close to the optimal RSS for large set sizes. For the practical utility, the near optimal unbalanced RSS is recommended for estimating the quantiles.

  • According to the $7^{th}$ reform of high school education curriculum, contents on probability and statistics in mathematics of high school curriculum have been expanded compared to the previous curriculum. Thus if the curriculum contains the contents to achieve the goals for probability and statistics, more efficient education on statistics is expected to meet the needs of information age. In this thesis, we studied through network analysis if contents on probability and statistics in mathematics of high school curriculum are composed to achieve the goals. We reviewed contents on probability and statistics in mathematics of the $7^{th}$ reform of high school curriculum whether they are conformed the purpose and direction of the reform or not. As a result, the concept of probability distribution and statistical estimation with a random variable was described clearly. But, census and sample survey were not connected with other items. In a part, there were expressional mistakes.

  • In this paper, we obtain the intuitionistic fuzzy subgroups generated by intuitionistic fuzzy sets and some properties preserved by a ring homomorphism. Furthermore, we introduce the concept of intuitionistic fuzzy coset and study some of it's properties.

  • In this paper, we introduce U-statistics approach to generalized Hollander-Proschan test for new better than used (NBUE) alternative. We prove, the proposed test is equivalent to test was introduced by Anis and Mitra (2011) and includes test was introduced by Hollander Proschan (1975). Also, the asymptotic properties are studied. The powers of our test are estimated. The Pitman asymptotic efficiencies of proposed test are also calculated. Finally, the test is applied to some real data.
