  • Various methods control the influence of a covariate on a response variable. These methods are analysis of covariance(ANCOVA), RANK ANCOVA, ANOVA of (covariate-adjusted) residuals, and Kruskal-Wallis tests on residuals. Covariate-adjusted residuals are obtained from the overall regression line fit to the entire data set that ignore the treatment levels or factors. It is demonstrated that the methods on covariate-adjusted residuals are only appropriate when the regression lines are parallel and covariate means are equal for all treatments. In this paper, we proposed the new nonparametric method on the ANCOVA model, as applying joint placement in a one-way layout on residuals as described in Chung and Kim (2007). A Monte Carlo simulation study is adapted to compare the power of the proposed procedure with those of the previous procedure.

  • Huang proposed a grey-based nearest neighbor approach to predict accurately missing attribute value in 2004. Our study proposes which way to decide the number of nearest neighbors using not only the dong's grey relational grade but also the wen's grey relational grade. Besides, our study uses not an arithmetic(unweighted) mean but a weighted one. Also, GRG is used by a weighted value when we impute a missing values. There are four different methods - DU, DW, WU, WW. The performance of WW(wen's GRG & weighted mean) method is the best of my other methods. It had been proven by Huang that his method was much better than mean imputation method and multiple imputation method. The performance of our study is far superior to that of Huang.

  • Bootstrap methods is the computer-based resampling method that estimates the standard errors and confidence intervals of summary statistics using the plug-in principle for assessing the accuracy or uncertainty of statistical estimates, and the BCa method among the Bootstrap methods is known much superior to other Bootstrap methods in respect of the standards of statistical validation. Therefore this study suggests the method of the representation and treatment of uncertainty in flood risk assessment and water resources planning from the construction and application of rainfall frequency analysis model considersing the uncertainty based on the nonparametric BCa method among the Bootstrap methods for the assessement of the estimation of probability rainfall and the effect of uncertainty considering the uncertainty of the parameter estimation of probability in the rainfall frequency analysis that is the most fundamental in flood risk assessement and water resources planning.

  • Domestic insurance claims were statistically investigated to analyze the elderly driver's accident patterns and injury types in side impact crashes. Medical treatment records and accident vehicle damage photos have been surveyed for 5,419 cases. The results of our statistical analysis showed that the thorax injury risk of the elderly drive group is 8.8 and 4.0 times higher than that of the young and middle age group respectively. Diagnosis showed that most thorax injuries were caused by rib fracture. The head injury risk of the elderly female driver group seemed to be higher than that of the younger female driver group, however, statistical test has not been conducted because of the lack of number of samples for elderly female accident.

  • In this paper we propose a distribution-free rank test for ordered alternatives in a randomized block design and investigate the properties of the proposed test. The proposed test is an extension of the Page test to allow replications in each cell. Some asymptotic properties including ARE's are investigated. A small sample Monte Carlo study was performed to compare the powers of the test considered in this paper for small samples. The results show that our proposed test is robust and efficient in the case of equally-spaced treatment effects.

  • In this paper, a covariate adjusted logrank test is considered for censored paired data under the Cox proportional hazard model. The proposed score test resembles the adjusted logrank test of Tsiatis, Rosner and Tritchler (1985), which is derived from the partial likelihood. The dependence structure for paired data is accommodated into the test statistic by using' sum of square type' variance estimators. Several weight functions are also considered, which produce a class of covariate adjusted weighted logrank tests. Asymptotic normality of the proposed test is established and simulation studies with moderate sample size show the proposed test works well, particularly when there are dependence structure between treatment and covariates.

  • In animal tumorigenicity data, tumor onsets occur at several sites and onset times cannot be exactly observed. Instead, the existence of tumors is examined only at death time or sacrifice time of the animal. Such an incomplete data structure makes it difficult to investigate the effect of treatment on tumor onset times; in addition, such dependence should be considered when censoring due to death is related with tumor onset. A bivariate frailty effect is incorporated to model bivariate tumor onsets and to connect death with tumor. For the inference of parameters, EM algorithm is applied and a real NTP(National Toxicology Program) dataset is analyzed as an illustrative example.

  • In this paper, the distribution characteristics of salt contaminants with the distance from sea in East coast, from Sokcho to Pusan of Korea peninsula were investigated to evaluate the design standard of KEPCO. To get the equivalent salt deposit density(ESDD), conventional brush wiping method was used. As the measuring period is comparatively short, and the measuring interval is long to check the maximum value, acquired ESDD data is very lower than the recommended value in the standard. The measured data didn't follow normal distribution, so it should take the statistical treatment. Through normalizing method, we could get a reliable probability data. In the past investigation, the accumulation characteristics of Japan is consulted to set the criterion, but the climatic condition of Korea is different to Japan. With the comparison of precipitation data and some measured data for long tern accumulation, we could set appropriate accumulation factor.

  • Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) is a potential target for the treatment of primary cancers as well as prevention of tumor metastasis. To understand the structural and chemical features of FAK inhibitors, we report comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) for the series of 7H-pyrrolo(2,3-d)pyrimidines. The CoMFA models showed good correlation between the actual and predicted values for training set molecules. Our results indicated the ligand-based alignment has produced better statistical results for CoMFA ($q^2$ = 0.505, $r^2$ = 0.950). Both models were validated using test set compounds, and gave good predictive values of 0.537. The statistical parameters from the generated 3D-QSAR models were indicated that the data are well fitted and have high predictive ability. The contour map from 3D-QSAR models explains nicely the structure-activity relationships of FAK inhibitors and our results would give proper guidelines to further enhance the activity of novel inhibitors.

  • By the increasing concern about Sasang Constitution Medicine, its practical use is considered very important in disease prevention and medical treatment. However, the method of constitution classification is depending on the doctor's clinical trials because of the lack of the objective test criteria. This study is trying to improve the objectiveness of diagnosis using a new statistical method, decision tree. Decision tree method-a classification technique in the statistical analysis- was used to analyze the result of QSCCII instead of using discriminant analysis. As a result, 16 among 121 QSCCII questions was selected as important questions and 21 terminal nodes was built to classify the constitution. Using only 16 questions shown in the result of decision tree, we can diagnose and interpret the constitution easily and effectively.
