  • Objective: The objective of this study is to estimate the effects of Inclear, a feminine cleanser, on sperm motility. Methods: Semen samples were obtained from infertile male patients. Following liquefaction, the raw semen samples were diluted with Ham's F-10 nutrient mixture medium containing 0.4% human serum albumin solution at a ratio of 1:3. The semen samples were subsequently centrifuged to separate the seminal plasma from the serum. The supernatant was discarded, and the pellet was resuspended. The sample was again centrifuged to remove cell debris, and the supernatant was removed. The final pellet was gently loosened by resuspension and incubated in medium alone as a control, and in a 10% solution of the medium plus Inclear. A sampling time of 30 minutes was selected on the basis of sperm transport studies. Sperm motility was evaluated with computer-assisted sperm analysis. Results: A total of 20 samples were analyzed. The mean age of patients was $34.40{\pm}2.96years$. There was no difference in sperm concentration and motility in the two samples at 0 minute and 30 minutes of incubation. In both semen samples, the sperm concentration and motility decreased after an incubation period of 30 minutes. However, there was no statistical difference between the samples. Sperm concentration and motility were not significantly different between the control and Inclear samples after 0 minute and 30 minutes of incubation. Conclusion: Inclear has no negative effects on sperm motility. This product can be recommended to pregnancy planners for vaginal hygiene and as a vaginal lubricant.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate airborne concentrations of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) during nail art practice by college students. Methods: Personal samples for students were measured using passive samplers(OVM 3500) during three kinds of practice, including polish nail, gel nail and acrylic French sculpture at two universities located in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. We also monitored area concentrations using active samplers and real-time total VOC monitors(ppbRAE 3000). All samples were analyzed with a gas chromatography flame ionized detector. Statistical analysis for monitored data were conducted using a web-based Bayesian toolkit, EXPOSTATS(www.expostats.ca). Results: Twenty-four personal samples and ten area samples were collected and five chemicals(acetone, butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, ethyl methacrylate(EMA) and methyl methacrylate(MMA)) were detected. Acetone was detected in all personal samples and ranged from 2.58 ppm to 50.3 ppm. EMA was detected in all personal and area samples with a maximum concentration of 9.78 ppm during acrylic French sculpture. Personal exposure levels to acetone, butyl acetate and mixtures were significantly higher with high occupant density (p<0.05). Geometric mean (GM) concentrations of 3.61 ppm for EMA personal samples were significantly higher than that of area samples, 1.5 ppm (p<0.05). Since there was no local ventilation, total VOC concentration continued to increase as the practice progressed. Conclusions: In order to minimize VOCs exposure for trainees, it is necessary to introduce a local ventilation system and maintain adequate occupant density.

  • Objective : In this study, we performed quantitative comparison on the content of 10 marker compounds in cinnamon barks from different species and found chemical discrimination between genuine Cinnamomum cassia and other Cinnamomum species (Non C. cassia). Methods : Cinnamon bark samples were extracted using the ultrasonication in 100% methanol for 30 minutes. The samples were analysed using high-performance liquid chromatography with statistical analysis. Results : The analytical method developed in this study met all validation criteria and was applied to the quantification of the 10 marker compounds in cinnamon bark samples. The major chemical discrimination of C. cassia were identified as low content of epicatechin and eugenol, and high contents of benzaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde and cinnamic acid compared to other Non C. cassia samples. Especially, among other compounds, the content of cinnamaldehyde was the highest in the C. cassia and Non C. cassia samples. The result of principal component analysis showed that the samples of C. cassia and Non C. cassia were clearly differentiated via benzaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, eugenol, and epicatechin, which influenced on clustering C. cassia and Non C. cassia samples. Conclusion : C. cassia and Non C. cassia samples were chemically discriminated using the quantitative HPLC analysis. Based on this, it is possible to control the quality of herbal medicines containing Cinnamomi Cortex. It is necessary to further improve the accuracy of discrimination between C. cassia and Non C. cassia species to evaluate cinnamon bark quality.

  • Purpose : Sasang Constitutional Medicine explains the pathology peculiar to constitution and suggests treatment for each constitution. In Sasang Constitutional Medicine hwnan beings are classified on four groups; Taeyangin, Taeumin, 5oyangin, Soeumin. These four constitution has their's own symptoms and treatments. In treatment, control of mind inclination, that is to say, moderation takes a very important role. But the study on heredity in Sasang Constitutional Medicine has not done not biological study but also statistical study. So we used several statistical methods and analyzed 163 samples. Methods : We implemented Fishers exact test for adjusting chi-squared test, kappa coefficient to estimate agreement of parent's and children's constitutions, and finally plotted bi-plot using correspondence analysis. Results : From Fisher's exact test result, we could know that parent's and children'S constitution's distribution had significant difference. In kappa coefficient, mother and daughter's estimated value produced highest result. In correspondence analysis we only plotted the case of mother and son for easy interpretation. Conclusion : In the study of heredity of SaSang constitution, we cannot know exactly the heredity of constitution in terms of biology or genetics. But this research can be helpful for further analysis, that is, a study of biological or genetical aspects. And we could conclude that in statistical aspects the heredity in SaSang constitution is meaningful.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the techniques or analyzing tobacco smoke by statistical treatment method for the analytical data through Asia Collaborative Study V. In addition to five smoke components analysis, consisting of TPM, water, nicotine, NFDPM, and puff count of four cigarettes samples, statistical parameters such as mean, standard deviation, box-and-whisker plots, h plots, k plots, regression coefficients, reproducibility (R), and repeatability (r) were also calculated. Analysis of water content of cigarette smoke was the most difficult task, whereas puff count analysis was the easiest as well recognized by all laboratories. Analysis of nicotine and puff count accounted for both the lowest and the highest variation among four parameters. The water coefficients indicated more randomness or variation in the slops. The NFDPM data exhibited both types of deviations from linearity. Water content of sample D indicated the highest difference between two single results and between two interlaboratory test results. As a whole, KGTRI ranked higher in the analytical techniques for statistical evaluation of results when compared with the practices of 28 other laboratories.

  • After lasting heavy storm, the overfow from the top of soil saving dam may follow if the outlet is not precisely designed and it causes great damages as a result. Therefore, the peak rate of flood must be premeditated at the time of dam construction and many kinds of erosion control measures should also be constructed to protect against the effects of oveflow causing the damages. In this paper, the daily maximum amounts of precipitation from 1904 to 1972 are used as samples of this statistical analysis for the previous purpose and studying local ranges are limited the number of areas to two; Pusan and Mokpo area, because other areas can not give the data of more than 69 years. Normal distribution, as follows, is used for this statistical study. $$P(X)=\int_{x}^{{\infty}}f(x)dx$$ x: daily maximum amount X: maximum of x P(X): probability to exceed X value The estimates, which are the resultants of statistical analysis, can be locally compared with the real values (daily maximum amounts) by diagram, whether the former truly coincides with the latter. As a result, statistical method canot be used for the premeditation of the amount as well as timing of heavy storms because the estimates donot coincide with the real values in this analysis.

  • Most electric products produced during the manufacturing process are produced after design and mass production under a given control standard. In particular, the development phase should present the criteria for the production process by setting appropriate limits based on the performance being targeted. Even if the standard of performance is set considering the performance of the process, measuring the performance of the product after actual production results will cause nonconformities with the expected results. Among the performance of electrical products, Energy standards represented by energy consumption efficiency continue to be of importance, and are mandatory standards that correspond to national standards in most countries. Therefore, statistical quality control of these standards shall basically have a large number of test equipment for each product, ensure sufficient test time and continuous sampling of product samples. In the end, companies that produce and sell electric appliances are striving to control mass production at a great cost, but this is not acceptable. This study presents basic characteristics of the energy efficiency of electrical products and proposes and conducts a case study on statistical production control methods for performance variation across products under the standards about domestic and international regulations.

  • This paper is concerned with the characteristics on the statistical parameters of vibration signal from bearing with changing its operating conditions as well as the spreading of faults. The rms, Kurtosis, crest factor, probability of exceedance and probability density function have been chose as the statistical parameters. To characterize of each, vibration signals have been recorded from four ball tester at different loads, operation speeds and time. The values of the statistical parameters for each frequency band have been calculated after A/D conversion and digital filtering of the recorded signals. It has been found that unlike rms values the statistical parameters such as Kurtosis etc. are almost unchanging with the change of the operating conditions such as load and speed. This suggests that the statistical parameters may be used for determining the development of faults independent of the operating conditions. In fact, the statistical parameters deviate considerably from their respective normal values when the faults developed under load conditions in the samples, conforming the suggestion.

  • Korea needs proper and rational public policies on conservation and use of forest land and other natural resources because of the accelerating expansion of national land developments in recent years. Unfortunately, there is no systematic planning system to support the needs. Generally, forest land use planning needs suitability analysis based on efficient land classification system. The goal of this study was to classify a forest land using multivariate satistical methods. A case study was carried out in winter of 1983 on a mountainous area higher than 100m above sea level located at Mt. Kwanak in Anyang -city, Kyung-gi-do (province). The study area was 19.80 km$^2$wide and was divided into 1, 383 Operational Taxonomic Units (OTU's) by a 120m$\times$120m grid. Fourteen descriptors were identified and quantified for each OTU from existing national land data : elevation, slope, aspect, terrain form, geologic material, surface soil permeability, topsoil type, depth of the solum, soil acidity, forest cover type, stand size class, stand age class, stand density class, and simple forest soil capability class. For this study, a FORTRAN IV program was written for input and output map data, and the computer statistics packages, SPSS and BMD, were used to perform the multivariate statistical analysis. Fourteen variables were analyzed to investigate the characteristics of their fire quench distribution and to estimate the correlation coefficients among them. Principal component analysis was executed to find the dimensions of forest land characteristics, and factor scores were used for proper samples of OTU throughout the study area. In order to develop the classes of forest land classification based on 102 surrogates, cluster and discriminant analyses of principal descriptor variable matrix were undertaken. Results obtained through a series of multivariate statistical analyses were as follows ; 1) Principal component analysis was proved to be a useful tool for data selection and identification of principal descriptor variables which represented the characteristics of forest land and facilitated the selection of samples.
