  • Load bearing structural members in a wide variety of applications accumulate damage over their service life. From a standpoint of both safety and performance, it is desirable to monitor the occurrence, location, and extent of such damage. Structures require complicated element models with a number of degrees of freedom in structural analysis. During experiment much effort and cost is needed for measuring structural parameters. The sparseness and errors of measured data have to be considered during the parameter estimation Of Structures. In this paper we introduces damage identification algorithm by a system identification(S.I) using static and dynamic response. To study the behaviour of the estimators in noisy environment Using Monte Carlo simulation and a data measured perturbation scheme is adopted to investigate the influence of measurement errors on identification results. The assessment result by static and dynamic response were compared, and the efficiency and applicabilities of the proposed algorithm are demonstrated through simulated static and dynamic responses of a truss bridge. The assessment results by each method were compared and we could observe that the 5.1 method is superior to the other conventional methods.

  • The allowable bearing capacity of a pile, the most important factor in stability estimation, is determined by applying safety factor to the ultimate load or yield load. There are several but contradictory methods available in current design codes to estimate the allowable bearing capacity and the safety factor. This paper analyzes load-settlement curves obtained from 19 static load tests measured from 11 sites. At all tests, the load is applied until apparent failure is observed. The validity of the ultimate and yield load estimation method and load caculated from the settlement criterion is investigated through comparison with the measured data. In addition, a new procedure to estimate allowable load and safety factor is proposed. Additional data from field static load tests, such as those incorporated in this study, are needed to more reliably apply the proposed method in design practice.

  • Pseudo-static slope stability analysis method is widely used in engineering practice to calculate the seismic factor of safety of slope subjected to earthquake ground motions. Although the dynamic analysis method is well recognized to have the primary advantage of simulating the stress-strain response of soils, it is not often used in practice because of the difficult in estimating the factor of safety. In this study, a procedure which utilizes the dynamic analysis method to extract the transient dynamic factor of safety is devleoped. This method overcomes the major limitation of the pseudo-static method, which uses an empirically determined seismic coefficient to derive the factor of safety. The proposed method is applied to a slope model and the result is compared with that of the pseudo-static method. It is shown that minimum dynamic factor of safety calculated by the dynamic analysis is slightly larger than that determined from the pseudo-static method. It is also demonstrated that the dynamic factor of safety becomes minimum when the horizontal seismic coefficient and horizontal average acceleration are maximum.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine immediate effects of 15 minutes plantarflexor static stretching in quite stance. Methods : Twenty-nine subjects were measured static balance during 1 minute in quite stance with eye closed condition before and after 15 minutes plantarflexor static stretching. Static stretching range was limited from $15^{\circ}$ to $20^{\circ}$ dorsiflexion within comfortable range. Results : The result of this study showed that postural sway significantly increased during 1 minute quiet stance after 15 minutes static stretching(p<.05). Before stretching, postural sway significantly decreased during 41-60 seconds compared to 0-20, 21-40 seconds(p<.05). After stretching, postural sway was decreased significantly over time 0-20, 21-40, and 41-60 seconds(p<.05). Conclusion : The prolong plantarflexor static stretching may require biomechanical, neurological adaptations prior to walking or sport activities for safety.

  • It is common to assume identical allowable safety factors in static strength defined by mean stress and in fatigue, defined by stress amplitude. Under the load with asymmetrical cycles the safety factor is not the same. In this paper, with the consideration of unequal allowable safety (actors a general method for estimating fatigue reliability of a machine element under a combined state of stress is derived based on the theory proposed by Prof. Kececioglu and a normal distribution. The calculation of fatigue reliability fur limited life is discussed with example.

  • The estimation of fatigue limit for the component with complicated shape is difficult than of standard fatigue specimen, due to complex test equipment. So, we substitute maximum principle stress from FEM results for fatigue limit diagram made by standard fatigue specimen. Then we can estimate endurance safety of component with high trust. The static stress analysis, the nonlinear contact stress analysis and the model analysis for turbine blade is performed by ANSYS ver. 5.6. the comparison of maximum static stress around hole with maximum contact stress between pun and hole can make the cause of fracture for turbine blade clear. The difference of fatigue limit between fatigue test by standard specimen and in-service mechanical components is due to surface roughness and machining condition etc. In in-service mechanical components, Goodman diagram has to consider surface roughness for failure analysis. To find fracture mechanism of torison-mounted blade in nuclear plant. This study performs the static stress, the nonlinear contact stress and the modal analysis on torison-mounted blade with finite element method and makes the estimation for safety of turbine blade.

  • The tincture toughness is evaluated by using U(compact tension) and 3PB(three point bending) specimens of AI alloys far propulsive engine. To evaluate the static fracture toughness, strain gage method is used. The static fracture toughness obtained from the strain measurement is compared with the results by ASTM standard and FEM analysis. For the reliable evaluation of fracture toughness, strain gages are attached at various positions.

  • In order to understand the characteristics of electrostatic discharge (ESD) by a charged human body, a dynamic analysis method based on RCL circuit and a quasi-static analysis method based on two-body model are introduced. In this paper, these methods calculate waveforms, discharge energy and potential difference to analyze the ESD phenomena from given initial conditions and geometry. Results are compared and discussed.

  • In this study, an analysis technique using static condensation is proposed for an efficient local nonlinear static analysis. The static condensation method is a model reduction method based on the degrees of freedom, and the analysis model is divided into a target part and a condensed part to be omitted. In this study, the nonlinear and linear parts were designated to the target and the omitted parts, respectively, and both the stiffness matrix and load vector corresponding to the linear part were condensed into the nonlinear part. After model condensation, the reduced model comprising the stiffness matrix and the load vector for the nonlinear part is constructed, and only this reduced model was updated through the Newton-Raphson iteration for an efficient nonlinear analysis. Finally, the efficiency and reliability of the proposed analysis technique were presented by applying it to various numerical examples.
