  • In this article, static, buckling and free vibration analyses of a sinusoidal micro composite beam reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) with considering temperature-dependent material properties embedded in an elastic medium in the presence of magnetic field under transverse uniform load are presented. This system is used at micro or sub micro scales to enhance the stiffness of micro composite structures such as bar, beam, plate and shell. In the present work, the size dependent effects based on surface stress effect and modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) are considered. The generalized rule of mixture is employed to predict temperature-dependent mechanical and thermal properties of micro composite beam. Then, the governing equations of motions are derived using Hamilton's principle and energy method. Numerical results are presented to investigate the influences of material length scale parameters, elastic foundation, composite fiber angle, magnetic intensity, temperature changes and carbon nanotubes volume fraction on the bending, buckling and free vibration behaviors of micro composite beam. There is a good agreement between the obtained results by this research and the literature results. The obtained results of this study demonstrate that the magnetic intensity, temperature changes, and two parameters elastic foundations have important effects on micro composite stiffness, while the magnetic field has greater effects on the bending, buckling and free vibration responses of micro composite beams. Moreover, it is shown that the effects of surface layers are important, and observed that the changes of carbon nanotubes volume fraction, beam length-to-thickness ratio and material length scale parameter have noticeable effects on the maximum deflection, critical buckling load and natural frequencies of micro composite beams.

  • Steam generator is one of the main equipments that affect safety and long term operation in nuclear power plants. Fluid flows inside and outside of the steam generator tubes and induces vibration. To prevent the vibration the tubes are supported by AVB (anti vibration bar). When the steam generator tube contact to AVB, it is damaged by the accumulation of wear and corrosion. Therefore studies are required to determine the effects of the gap between the steam generator tube and AVB. In order to obtain the stress and the displacement distributions of the steam generator tube, three dimensional finite element analyses were performed by using the commercial program ANSYS. Using the calculated the stress and the displacement distributions, the static residual strength of the steam generator tube can be evaluated. The results show that the stress and displacement of the steam generator tube increase significantly compared with the results from a zero-gap model.

  • In this study, flutter analyses for supercritical airfoil have been conducted in transonic region. Advanced computational analysis system based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and computational structural dynamics (CSD) has been developed in order to investigate detailed static and dynamic responses of supercritical airfoil. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with Spalart-Allmaras (S-A) and SST ${\kappa}-{\omega}$ turbulence models are solved for unsteady flow problems. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of cascades for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. Also, flow-induced vibration (FIV) analyses for various supercritical airfoil models have been conducted. Detailed flutter responses for supercritical are presented to show the physical performance and vibration characteristics in various angle of attack.

  • The transverse free vibration of chiral double-walled carbon nanotube (DWCNTs) embedded in elastic medium is modeled by the non-local elasticity theory and Euler Bernoulli beam model. The governing equations are derived and the solutions of frequency are obtained. According to this study, the vibrational mode number, the small-scale coefficient, the Winkler parameter and chirality of double-walled carbon nanotube on the frequency ratio (xN) of the (DWCNTs) are studied and discussed. The new features of the vibration behavior of (DWCNTs) embedded in an elastic medium and the present solutions can be used for the static and dynamic analyses of double-walled carbon nanotubes.

  • The objective of this paper is to present free vibration and static stability analyses of rotating composite beams reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) under uniform thermal loads. Beam structural equations and CNT-reinforced composite (CNTRC) beam formulations are derived based on Timoshenko beam theory (TBT). The temperature-dependent properties of the beam material, such as the elastic modulus, shear modulus, and material density, are assumed to vary over the thickness according to the rule of mixture. The beam material is modeled as a mixture of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in an isotropic matrix. The SWCNTs are aligned and distributed in the isotropic matrix with different patterns of reinforcement, namely the UD (uniform), FG-O, FG-V, FG- Λ and FG-X distributions, where FG-V and FG- Λ are asymmetric patterns. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effects of several essential parameters, including the rotational speed, hub radius, effective material properties, slenderness ratio, boundary conditions, thermal force, and moments due to temperature variation. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this study represents the first attempt at the finite element modeling of rotating CNTRC Timoshenko beams under a thermal environment. The results are presented in tables and figures for both symmetric and asymmetric distribution patterns, and can be used as benchmarks for further validation.

  • The soil-structure interactions are caused by the point sources of explosions, deriving piles, compaction of foundations and excavations those are frequently arose in the construction sites. Thus the analysis of soil-structure interactions is one of the most important subjects in the fields of dynamic analysis and vibration control. From this viewpoint, the aim of this study is to collect the basic data for designing foundation structures throughout understanding the dynamic structural behavior, which is embodied by the dynamic analysis of soil-structure systems. In this study, the dynamic analyses of stiffened thick plates subjected to in-plane stress on elastic foundations are carried out. The foundation is modeled as Pasternak foundation that includes the continuity effect of foundations. Also both the Mindlin plate theory and Timoshenko beam-column theory are used for analyzing the thick plates and beams, respectively.

  • Static and dynamic structural analyses of a turbine bladed-disk for a liquid rocket turbopump are performed to investigate the safety level of strength and vibration at design point. During operation, turbopump is exposed to various external loads. Therefore, the effects of them should be carefully considered and properly modeled. First, due to the high rotational speed of the turbopump, effects of centrifugal forces are considered in the structural analysis. Thermal load caused by severe temperature differences is also considered. A three dimensional finite element method (FEM) is used for linear and nonlinear structural analyses with modified Newton-Raphson iteration method. After the nonlinear solution is obtained from the structural analysis, dynamic characteristics are obtained as a function of rotational speed from the linearized eigenvalue analysis at an equilibrium position. From the analysis results, characteristics of stress distribution and vibration were thoroughly examined and investigated.

  • We present the optical design of Linear Astigmatism Free - Three Mirror System (LAF-TMS) D200 for UVO-Multiband Polarizing Imager System (UVOMPIS). LAF-TMS D200 is the off-axis wide-field telescope with EPD = 200 mm, F/2, and Field of View (FoV) = 2° × 4°. Its optical mirrors are optimized to freeform surfaces for high-quality optical performance over a wide FoV. The proposed mirror holder consists of four aluminum optomechanical modules that have applied for LAF-TMS D150 which is a prototype of the LAF-TMS system. It can accurately mount mirrors and also can sustain from vibration environments. As a feasibility study, quasi-static, modal, harmonic, and random vibration analyses have been performed to LAF-TMS D150 optomechanical structure under the qualification level of the Soyuz-2/Fregat launch system. We evaluate the vibration analysis results in terms of von Mises stress and Margin of Safety.
