This study was aimed at developing 1) iso-perception maps for various groups of drivers in terms of age, gender, and anthropometry and 2) the experiment framework required for obtaining subjective and objective measures. A total of 9 maps, which describe drivers' perceptions regarding their static behaviors inside a typical mid-size sedan, can be used to improve the utilization of the limited driver workspace, and to select better design alternatives for occupant packaging. An adjustable seating buck, $a^{***}$-camera motion capture system (Vicon), and $a^{**}$-channel EMG system were used for the experiment. Each iso-perception map was developed while H-PT, steering wheel center, or TGS knob center was moved to each of pre-defined positions relative to driver-selected positions. Adjustable ranges or positions of the seat, steering wheel, and TGS lever described in iso-perception maps can be used to determine better package layout alternatives.

Performance evaluation of a compressor is conducted to develop 500W class ultra-micro gas turbine (UMGT) for power generation. The performance evaluation is essential to check the performance of the components of UMGT, a radial turbine, a centrifugal compressor, an angular combustor and a shaft, which have been already designed in previous researches. The purpose of this study is to introduce the development process of the performance testing equipments of the UMGT and to present the results of compressor performance test. For the performance evaluation of the compressor, two test equipments are developed and the initial test equipment uses commercial static air bearings with long shaft. In the improved test equipment, static air bearing is improved to increase rotating speed and compressed nitrogen gas is used for utility gas of the static air bearing to supply compressed air in a stable and steady way. To increase rotating speed to 320,000 rpm, 80% speed of design speed, compressed air is provided to the turbine. The performance map of the compressor with the 50%, 60%, 70%, 80% speed of design point is presented. The results of the performance test of compressor show a good agreement with the results of 3D CFD.

In this paper, static and dynamic shift control stategies of CVT speed ratio are suggested. For the static shift control, in order to operate engine on the optimal operating region, a fuzzy control logic is used. In the fuzzy logic, S- factor that is defined as a degree of sportiness is introduced. Simulation results show that the static shift control strategy based on the fuzzy logic selects the optimal operating point automatically between the economy and the sporty mode corresponding to the driver's desire and the driving condition. For the dynamic shift control strategy, a shift speed map is suggested which determines the shift sped as fast or slow based on Δi, the difference between the desired speed ratio id and the actual speed ratio i, and throttle opening. It is seen from the simulation results that the CVT shift speed is determined by the dynamic shift control strategy to provide appropriate performance and comfort for the driver's demand and driving condition. Additionally, experiments are performed to investigate the dynamic performance of the shift speed for the lift foot up. From the experimental results, it is found that improved shift feeling can be obtained by the dynamic shift control strategy when lift foot up occurs.

Among available people counting methods, map-based approaches based on moving interest points have shown good performance. However, the stationary people counting is challenging in such methods since all static points of interest are considered as background. To include stationary people in counting, it is needed to discriminate between the static points of stationary people and the background region. In this paper, we propose a people counting method based on using both moving and static points. The proposed method separates the moving and static points by motion information. Then, the static points of the stationary people are classified using foreground mask processing and point pattern analysis. The experimental results reveal that the proposed method provides more accurate count estimation by including stationary people. Also, the background updating is enabled to solve the static point misclassification problem due to background changes.
Unlike a typical small-sized robot navigating in a free space, an autonomous vehicle has to travel in a designated road which has lanes to follow and traffic rules to obey. High-Definition (HD) maps, which include road markings, traffic signs, and traffic lights with high location accuracy, can help an autonomous vehicle avoid the need to detect such challenging road surroundings. With space constraints and a pre-built HD map, a new type of path planning algorithm can be conceived as a substitute for conventional grid-based path planning algorithms, which require substantial planning time to cover large-scale free space. In this paper, we propose an obstacle-avoiding, cost-based planning algorithm in a continuous space that aims to pursue a globally-planned path with the help of HD map information. Experimentally, the proposed algorithm is shown to outperform other state-of-the-art path planning algorithms in terms of computation complexity in a typical urban road setting, thereby achieving real-time performance and safe avoidance of obstacles.
Autonomous locomotion has two essential functionalities: mapping builds and updates maps by uncertain position information and measured sensor inputs, and localization is to find the positional information with the inaccurate map and the sensor information. In addition, obstacle detection, avoidance, and path designs are necessarily required for autonomous locomotion by combining the probabilistic methods based on uncertain locations. The sensory inputs, which are measured by a metric-based scanner, have difficulties of distinguishing moving obstacles like humans from static objects like walls in given environments. This paper proposes the low resolution grid map combined with reinforcement learning, which is compared with the conventional recognition method for detecting static and moving objects to generate obstacle avoiding path. Finally, the proposed method is verified with experimental results.
A novel approach, hybrid surface rainfall (KNU-HSR) technique developed by Kyungpook Natinal University, was utilized for improving the radar rainfall estimation. The KNU-HSR technique estimates radar rainfall at a 2D hybrid surface consistings of the lowest radar bins that is immune to ground clutter contaminations and significant beam blockage. Two HSR techniques, static and dynamic HSRs, were compared and evaluated in this study. Static HSR technique utilizes beam blockage map and ground clutter map to yield the hybrid surface whereas dynamic HSR technique additionally applies quality index map that are derived from the fuzzy logic algorithm for a quality control in real time. The performances of two HSRs were evaluated by correlation coefficient (CORR), total ratio (RATIO), mean bias (BIAS), normalized standard deviation (NSD), and mean relative error (MRE) for ten rain cases. Dynamic HSR (CORR=0.88, BIAS= $-0.24mm\;hr^{-1}$, NSD=0.41, MRE=37.6%) shows better performances than static HSR without correction of reflectivity calibration bias (CORR=0.87, BIAS= $-2.94mm\;hr^{-1}$, NSD=0.76, MRE=58.4%) for all skill scores. Dynamic HSR technique overestimates surface rainfall at near range whereas it underestimates rainfall at far ranges due to the effects of beam broadening and increasing the radar beam height. In terms of NSD and MRE, dynamic HSR shows the best results regardless of the distance from radar. Static HSR significantly overestimates a surface rainfall at weaker rainfall intensity. However, RATIO of dynamic HSR remains almost 1.0 for all ranges of rainfall intensity. After correcting system bias of reflectivity, NSD and MRE of dynamic HSR are improved by about 20 and 15%, respectively.
This paper proposes a moving object extraction method using the contrast map and salient points. In order to make the contrast map, we generate three-feature maps such as luminance map, color map and directional map and extract salient points from an image. By using these features, we can decide the Attention Window(AW) location easily The purpose of the AW is to remove the useless regions in the image such as background as well as to reduce the amount of image processing. To create the exact location and flexible size of the AW, we use motion feature instead of pre-assumptions or heuristic parameters. After determining of the AW, we find the difference of edge to inner area from the AW. Then, we can extract horizontal candidate region and vortical candidate region. After finding both horizontal and vertical candidates, intersection regions through logical AND operation are further processed by morphological operations. The proposed algorithm has been applied to many video sequences which have static background like surveillance type of video sequences. The moving object was quite well segmented with accurate boundaries.
The swirling flow fields of a gun-type gas burner(GTGB) without a combustion chamber were measured by a straight-type five-hole pressure probe(FHPP) under the cold flow condition. The three kinds of velocity components and the static pressure were calculated by using a non-nulling calibration method covering the velocity reduction performance of the effective flow attack angle of ${\pm}80^{\circ}$. As a result, the velocity and static pressure measured by a FHPP comparatively shows the better performance on the swirling flow of a GTGB than those measured by X-probe.
The paper proposes a quantitative causal ordering map (QCOM) to combine qualitative and quantitative methods in a framework. The procedures for developing QCOM consist of three phases. The first phase is to collect partially known causal dependencies from experts and to convert them into relations and causal nodes of a model graph. The second phase is to find the global causal structure by tracing causality among relation and causal nodes and to represent it in causal ordering graph with signed coefficient. Causal ordering graph is converted into QCOM by assigning regression coefficient estimated from path analysis in the third phase. Experiments with the prediction model of Korea stock price show results as following; First, the QCOM can support the design of qualitative and quantitative model by finding the global causal structure from partially known causal dependencies. Second, the QCOM can be used as an integration tool of qualitative and quantitative model to offerhigher explanatory capability and quantitative measurability. The QCOM with static and dynamic analysis is applied to investigate the changes in factors involved in the model at present as well discrete times in the future.
