  • Accurate modeling of a dynamic system from experimental data is the bases for the model updating or heath monitoring of the system. Modal analysis or modal test is a routine process to get the modal parameters of a dynamic system. The modal parameters include the natural frequencies, damping ratios and mode shapes. This paper presents a new method that can derive the equations of motion for a dynamic system from the modal parameters obtained by the modal analysis or modal test. The present method based on the relation between the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the state space equation derives the mass, damping and stiffness matrices of the system. The modeling of a cantilevered beam from modal parameters is an example to prove the efficiency and accuracy of the present method. Using the lateral displacements only, not the rotations, gives limited information for the system. The numerical verification up to now gives reasonable results and the verification with the test data is scheduled.

  • In this paper, the model reference adaptive control (MRAC) of a flexible structure is investigated. Any mechanically flexible structure is inherently distributed parameter in nature, so that its dynamics are described by a partial, rather than ordinary, differential equation. The MRAC problem is formulated as an initial value problem of coupled partial and ordinary differential equations in weak form. The well-posedness of the initial value problem is proved. The control law is derived by using the Lyapunov redesign method on an infinite dimensional filbert space. Uniform asymptotic stability of the closed loop system is established, and asymptotic tracking, i. e., convergence of the state-error to zero, is obtained. With an additional persistence of excitation condition for the reference model, parameter-error convergence to zero is also shown. Numerical simulations are provided.

  • The present paper reports high-fidelity simulation of direct initiation processes of cylindrical detonation waves by concentrated energy deposition. The goal is to understand the underpinning mechanisms in failed or successful detonation initiation processes. We employed the Space-Time CESE method to solve the reacting flow equations, including realistic finite-rate chemistry model of the nine species and twenty-four reactions for H$_2$-O$_2$-Ar mixtures. Detailed results of sub-critical, critical. and supercritical initiation process are reported.

  • The crosstalk among three identical uniform coupled microstrip transmissiom lines is examined. To analyze the crosstalk, the simultaneous equations for the voltage and current waves on each transmission line are induced from the transmission line equation. The capacitance and the inductance of the line to solve the transmission line equation are calculated by the spectral domain analysis and the space domian analysis. There are three quasi-TEM modes is three microstrip transmission lines and the characteristics mode impedences in each mode are almost equal at a weak coupling state. The crosstalk among three identical microstrip transmission lines is calculated varying the frequency from 50MHz to 3GHz.

  • In this paper, we proposed a mixed H$_{2}$/H$_{\infty}$ optimal controller design method using the parameterization of H$_{2}$ suboptimal controller. The method is based on the minimization of H$_{2}$ performance measure with an H$_{\infty}$-norm constraint. We also derived the necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of solution from the decoupled Riccati equations. And the designed controller has state-space representation.n.

  • A mathematical model is developed for a CSTR in which free radical solution polymerization of methyl methacrylate(MMA) takes place. It turns out that five ordinary differential equations are to be treated simultaneously in order to predict the reactor performance. Although the reaction proceeds under the conditions of relatively low temperature and pressure, the system shows very complex bifurcation features due to the diffusion limitation (gel effect) and the temperature dependence of the kinetic parameters and physical properties. The effects of various system parameters on the reactor performance as well as on the polymer properties are investigated by using the bifurcation analysis. The application of the singularity theory enables us to divide the parameter space into several different regions, in each of which the system takes a unique steady state structure. Under certain circumstances, complex dynamic features such as HB points and limit cycles are observed and these should be taken into consideration in the reactor design.

  • In CLOS guidance, feedback compensation of the Coriolis acceleration is used to reduce miss distance. This paper presents the effects of the bandwidth of target and missile on the optimal Coriolis acceleration compensation. A state space formulation of CLOS guidance is used to implement CLOS guidance in feedback form. And the LQR control method is applied to find the optimal feedback gain. From the analysis of the Riccati equations of the optimal control, the following facts are observed: When the target is agile, the optimal gain is reduced, since the compensation becomes ineffective. The missile bandwidth also affects the Coriolis accleration compensation. Narrower missile requires more compensation for the Coriolis acceleration.

  • This paper proposes an identification method for a thin plate where multiple actuators and sensors are bonded. Since a thin plate has small damping ratios of all modes, each mode can be identified seperately with a bandpass filter for each modal signal. With the bandpass filter and the characteristics of the plate, the Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) model of the plate can be converted to several Multi-Input Single-Output(MISO) models of second order linear difference equations of the modes. Parameters for each mode are obtained by using the Least Square method. Form there MISO models, the MIMO model is obtained in the form of the state space. Experiments were performed for an all-clamped plate with two pairs of piezoelectric actuators and sensors. The outputs of the identified model and the experimental data match well.

  • It has been known that general velocity and force of a rigid body in space can be described in forms of a twist and a wrench by use of screws. However, the geometrical meaning of acceleration has not been clearly disclosed. It has been a normal practice to analyze or synthesize the acceleration effect of manipulator using some complex mathematical equations, which do not represent any geometrical meanings. In other words, such a technique doesn't clearly provide information about the overall acceleration state of manipulator at that instant. In this study, the geometrical meaning of acceleration of a rigid body has been investigated and thereby a geometrical procedure which can be applied to inverse acceleration analysis of a general non-redundant manipulator is presented as an application.

  • In many case of optimal design and sensitivity analysis, obtaining of transfer function between input and output variables is a difficult and time-consuming problem. The bond graph modeling is a method that is used for making it easy to analyze complex systems composed of mechanical and electrical parts. It gives us a simple and systematic tool to get state-space equations easily. And we can obtain the transfer function graphically using bond graph and Mason's rule. This paper shows how bond graphs are converted to block diagram and how Mason's rule is applied. And the simple direct method to obtain transfer function from bond graph is introduced. As a example, induction of transfer function of electric power steering composed of mechanical and electrical parts will be done.
