  • Purpose: Because of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, there have been many cases of using portable negative pressure unit to convert general wards into temporary negative pressure isolation wards. The purpose of this study is to analyze the indoor environment of the switching type wards. Methods: Field measurements and experiments were conducted in a medical facility. Air volume, wind speed and pressure difference were measured in non-occupant state. Dispersion tests were performed with gas and particle matter. Results: The pressure difference between the wards and the corridor was higher than -2.5 Pa in normal situation. However, in the gas and particle dispersion tests, it was found that there were concerns about the spread through leakages in low-airtight walls or ceilings. In addition, it was confirmed that the pressure imbalance in ducts through the non-sealed diffusers could cause back flow during portable unit operation. Furthermore, when there was a pressure difference between adjacent wards planned to be at same pressure level, the possibility of the spread through the leakages was found. Implications: When using portable units for making switching type wards, it is necessary to create airtight space and seal the non-operation diffusers. In case of operating the air handling unit, T.A.B must be performed to adjust the duct balancing.

  • The PSD (Platform Screen Door System) has been installed to enhance the passengers' safety. A total of 592 stations operate the PSD system, which is almost 71.8% of all stations in South Korea. This study compared the opening rate between the PSD and train door, and calculated the exact amount of passengers at peak time. In addition, the evacuation time was simulated by Pathfinder 2015 with the exact input data. Some of the high density stations have extremely high dangerous points about the passengers' evacuation at some situations by the PSD door opening rate. In particular, due to the interference of a fixed door, when it stops at 7 m less than the regular position, its opening rate becomes less than half of the normal state. To solve this problem, it should be made possible to open the fixed door by changing it to an emergency door or improving the PSD module system.

  • The main purpose of 1-1-9 Caller Location Information System is to identify and display the precise location of emergency incidents such as natural or man - made fires, medical emergencies and accidents. The state - of- the - art technologies such as Am (Automatic Number Identification), GIS(Geographical Information System) and GPS (Global Positioning System) were applied and integrated in the system for efficient and effective location identification. It displays a radius of 25M, 50M and 100M on the map after location identification. The system can also provide the shortest path to an incident location from a fire station or a fire engine. In case of a fire breakout in or near a building, the attribute information of the building, called a building attribute card, is displayed along with the map location. The system then matches the information with the fire situation and sends an alert to a responsible fire station by phone or fax in order to help promptly react to the problem. An attribute card includes the critical information of a premise such as building's location, number of stories, floor plans, capacity, construction history, indoor fire detection and Prevention facilities, etc.

  • Objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a public health emergency posing unprecedented challenges for health authorities. Social media may serve as an effective platform to disseminate health-related information. This study aimed to assess the extent of social media use, its impact on preventive behavior, and negative health effects such as cyberchondria and information overload. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted between June 10, 2020 and August 9, 2020 among people visiting the outpatient department of the authors' institution, and participants were also recruited during field visits for an awareness drive. Questions were developed on preventive behavior, and the Short Cyberchondria Scale and instruments dealing with information overload and perceived vulnerability were used. Results: The study recruited 767 participants with a mean age of about 45 years. Most of the participants (>90%) engaged in preventive behaviors, which were influenced by the extent of information received through social media platforms (β=3.297; p<0.001) and awareness of infection when a family member tested positive (β=29.082; p<0.001) or a neighbor tested positive (β=27.964; p<0.001). The majority (63.0%) of individuals often searched for COVID-19 related news on social media platforms. The mean±standard deviation scores for cyberchondria and information overload were 9.09±4.05 and 8.69±2.56, respectively. Significant and moderately strong correlations were found between cyberchondria, information overload, and perceived vulnerability to COVID-19. Conclusions: This study provides evidence that the use of social media as an information- seeking platform altered preventive behavior. However, excessive and misleading information resulted in cyberchondria and information overload.

  • Objective : Stroke is the most prevalent disease involving the central nervous system. Since medical modalities are sometimes ineffective for the acute edema following massive infarction, surgical decompression may be an effective option when medical treatments fail. The present study was undertaken to assess the outcome and prognostic factors of decompressive surgery in life threatening acute, severe, brain infarction. Methods : We retrospectively analyzed twenty-six patients (17 males and 9 females; average age, 49.7yrs) who underwent decompressive surgery for severe cerebral or cerebellar infarction from January 2003 to December 2006. Surgical indication was based on the clinical signs such as neurological deterioration, pupillary reflex, and radiological findings. Clinical outcome was assessed by Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS). Results : Of the 26 patients, 5 (19.2%) showed good recovery, 5 (19.2%) showed moderate disability, 2 (7.7%) severe disability, 6 (23.1%) persistent experienced vegetative state, and 8 (30.8%) death. In this study, the surgical decompression improved outcome for cerebellar infarction, but decompressive surgery did not show a good result for MCA infarction (30.8% overall mortality vs 100% mortality). The dominant-hemisphere infarcts showed worse prognosis, compared with nondominant-hemisphere infarcts (54.5% vs 70%). Poor prognostic factors were diabetes mellitus, dominant-hemisphere infarcts and low preoperative Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score. Conclusion : The patients who exhibit clinical deterioration despite aggressive medical management following severe cerebral infarction should be considered for decompressive surgery. For better outcome, prompt surgical treatment is mandatory. We recommend that patients with severe cerebral infarction should be referred to neurosurgical department primarily in emergency setting or as early as possible for such prompt surgical treatment.

  • Since the current crime prevention systems have a standard mechanism that victims request for help by themselves or ask for help from a third party nearby, it is difficult to obtain appropriate help in situations where a prompt response is not possible. In this study, we proposed and developed an automatic rescue request model and system using Deep Learning and OpenCV. This study is based on the prerequisite that immediate and precise threat detection is essential to ensure the user's safety. We validated and verified that the system identified by more than 99% of the object's accuracy to ensure the user's safety, and it took only three seconds to complete all necessary algorithms. We plan to collect various types of threats and a large amount of data to reinforce the system's capabilities so that the system can recognize and deal with all dangerous situations, including various threats and unpredictable cases.

  • Existing web-based system management software solutions show some limitations in time and space. Moreover, they possess such as shortcomings unreliable error message announcements and difficulties with real-time assistance suppers and emergency measures. In order to solve these deficiencies, Wireless Remote Control System was designed and implemented. Wireless Remote Control System is able to manage and monitor remote systems by using mobile communication devices for instantaneous control. The implementation of Wireless Remote Control System leads to these security Problems as well as solutions to aforementioned issues with existing web-based system management software solutions. Therefore, this paper has focused on the security matters related to Wireless Remote Control System. The designed security functions include mobile device user authentication and target system access control. For security verification of these security functions introduced CPN(Coloured Petri Nets) which is capable of expressing every possible state for each stage. And then in this paper was verified its security through PI(Place Invariant) based on CPN(Coloured Petri Nets). The CPN expression and analysis method of the proposed security function can also be a useful method for analyzing other services in the future.

  • In the case of a failure due to equipment deterioration in the public address system or a worker's mistake during construction, broadcasting becomes impossible. In this situation, we have designed a more advanced management broadcast system that can broadcast. The broadcasting service is operated using main broadcasting device, and local broadcasting device operates separately only in the local area. If the main broadcasting device becomes inoperable, the procedure for transferring the control activates the device with the local broadcasting devices based on data backed up by the main controller. This paper proposes an improved method of the conventional emergency broadcasting device duplication method. The existing method could not use the standby equipment in the normal state, but in the proposed method, the standby equipment can be used as local broadcasting equipment in usually. This method enables stable system operation while minimizing resource waste due to redundant configuration of expensive devices.

  • This research is to identify how much toxic combustion gases are produced from Korea standardized real fire test (Class A&B) by using Room Corner Tester (RCT) and how much those gases are possibly dangerous to testing personnel by estimating the level of carboxyhemoglobin (% COHb). It is confirmed that testing personnel can be affected as more than 40% COHb from Class A 9th and 10th rating in respiration minute volume (RMV) 2 and from Class A 5th to Class A 10th rating in RMV 3 during the time for initial three minutes. Also, in the case of Class B real fire tests, although it is considered rather safe for the initial 1 minute, testing personnel can be affected as more than 20% COHb from Class B 16th to 20th rating in RMV 3 during total test time. Currently, the Korea standard is only focusing on the protection measures against the heat, but the it is neglecting the protection measures against toxic combustion gases. Therefore, according to this study, it is strongly recommended that testing personnel should wear a self-contained breathing apparatus, or the equivalence depending on the real fire test rating.
