The military vehicle produces electric power through an engine-integrated serial hybrid generator that is connected to the engine and does not have a separate generator installation space. However, depending on the mechanical characteristics of the connection between the generator and the engine, iron oxide for internal rusting and lubrication grew scattered. The iron oxide is adhered to the starter to deteriorate the starting performance, and there is a problem that the noise of the leg due to wear of the gear is increased. To solve this problem, the connection spline material and the surface treatment of the engine were improved and the shape was changed to a grease sealing type to prevent the generation of iron oxide inside. As the shape of the generator connector composing the shafting system was changed, the integrity of the structure was confirmed through the torsional endurance test. In addition, through the actual vehicle load test, it was verified that no corrosion occurred during the target life span without internal corrosion. It was confirmed that the anti-scattering structure of the grease effectively suppresses the generation of iron oxide, thereby reducing the noise generated from the generator. In this paper, we propose a fundamental solution to the degradation of the starter and the noise generation by preventing the back corrosion caused by the serial hybrid generator installed between the engine and the transmission.
A dynamic model of a power shuttle transmission was developed and its validity was verified using the experimental data obtained from a transmission test bench. A 40㎾, 4WD tractor was also modeled using an application software EASY5 to investigate parameters and their effects on the power shifting performance. For a tractor model, the manual reverse gear was replaced by a power shuttle transmission. The tractor model also included an engine, main-gears for transmission, wheels, differentials and planet gears. Using the tractor model, the effects of the parameters such as modulating pressure and time, engine speed, tractor speed. tractor weight. reverse to forward speed ratio and torsional damper on the transient characteristics at starting and shuttle shifting were investigated by the computer simulation. The transient characteristics were represented by variations in clutch pressure, torque transmitted to input shaft and driving wheels, and power transmission capacity of the clutch. It was found that the modulating pressure and time affected most significantly the torque transmission and shifting time. The input torque, axle torque, power transmission capacity of the clutch and transmission time all increased with increase in engine speed, tractor speed. tractor weight and ratio of reverse to forward speeds. However, the axle torque decreased with tractor speed. Both the axle torque and power transmission capacity of the clutch also decreased with the ratio of reverse to forward speeds.
This paper discusses the optical system design for projection TV using LCOS type micro display, which provides the high resolution, slim depth, and a large screen of more than 60 inches. We analyzed the relationship between the illumination system, projection lens, color separation & recombination system, and micro display. From this quantitative analysis, the starting data for the optimum light engine was defined, and all optical systems were designed by an optimization process. Three RGB panels were proposed for a high luminence system, and the four prisms symmetrically located make equal optical path lengths for the RGB rays. This color separation & recombination system enables the a compact illumination system. Also, in order to the slim light engine with high resolution, the folded projection lens system was designed by inserting a mirror between projection lenses.

The development of a combustion chamber for a 30-$ton_f$ regeneratively-cooled space liquid rocket engine is described. Starting from the development of bi-propellant swirl coaxial injectors, essential technologies were verified through subscale combustion chambers and afterwards applied to the full-scale combustion chambers. A total of 5 full-scale combustion chambers have been utilized to verify ignition, combustion efficiency and stability, cooling, and duration requirements. A total of 46 combustion tests were performed among which 23 tests were parallely performed with stability rating tests using a pulse gun device. The test results have revealed that the 30-$ton_f$ regeneratively-cooled combustion chamber fully complies to the performance and combustion stability requirements and thus concluded that the development is successfully completed.

The development process of a gas generator for a 30-tonf pump-fed space liquid rocket engine is described. Starting from the development of an injector, followed by subscale and full-scale test specimens, the development of LOx/kerosene fuel-rich gas generator has been concluded successfully. Various analytical methods have been utilized in the course of design and the performance requirements have been verified experimentally through ignition tests, combustion performance and stability assessment tests and duration tests. The gas generator has proven its workability and stability within a defined operation window of varying chamber pressure and mixture ratio and demonstrated compliance to the performance and life time requirements.
The free-piston Stirling engine (FPSE) has been widely used in aerospace owing to its advantages of high efficiency, high reliability, and self-starting ability. In this paper, a 20-kW FPSE is proposed by analyzing the requirements of space nuclear power reactor. A code was developed based on an improved simple analysis method to evaluate the performance of the proposed FPSE. The code is benchmarked with experimental data, and the maximum relative error of the output power is 17.1%. Numerical results show that the output power is 21 kW, which satisfies the design requirements. The results show that: a) reducing the pressure shell's thickness can improve the output power significantly; b) the system efficiency increases with the wire porosity, while the growth of system efficiency decreases when the porosity is higher than 80%, and system efficiency exhibits a linear relationship with the temperatures of the cold and hot sides; c) the system efficiency increases with the compression ratio; the compression ratio increases by 16.7% while the system efficiency increases by 42%. This study can provide valuable theoretical support for the design and analysis of FPSEs for space nuclear power reactors.
In this paper we develop an equipment which prevents vehicles from overheating their inside due to exposure to direct sunlight in summer. Overheating of inside vehicle may give rise to accidents, for instances, dying from suffocation, the deformation of its internal equipment and the explosion from the cracks of its internal parts etc.. The equipment is operated under no starting engine. We adjust the overheating of the inside vehicle by operating the equipment. This equipment checks the temperature of the inside vehicle using temperature sensor. If the temperature increases more than reference temperature(a condition which can be given by the driver), the equipment will operate until the temperature of the inside decreases to the given temperature. Its power is obtained from solar cell. So the equipment keeps away overheating accidents as well as provides the drivers with optimized condition. And also it increases the ability of original car battery through solar cell.
Starting with the development of environmentally friendly electric controlled engine, sensors have played an increasing role in automotive technology. Electric power steering (EPS) systems are more and more replacing hydraulic systems. To improve fuel economy, the power assistance is provided by an electric drive. In this paper, development of a unique torque sensor for EPS is introduced. A capacitive type torque sensor is concluded to be suitable for EPS because its output is accurate, linear and robust against the variance of temperature, and patents have not applied so much.
The lubrication characteristics of high-speed ball bearings at oil-starvation have been investigated empirically using the bearings employed in small industrial gas turbine engines. For the close structural simulation, experiments carried our with bearing mounting supports of real engines, such as bearing housings and oil nozzle assemblies with squeeze film dampers. Thus the results of tests can be applied to the design and the development of gas turbine engines. Testing was done by simulating the oil-starvation conditions in engines, such as stopping the oil-supply to the bearing during normal operating, starting without oil-supply at atmospheric temperature, and accelerating with oil-supply at atmospheric temperature. From this study, the relative comparison of the frictional resistance and the resistance due to the bearing cavity oil was demonstrated visually, and the resistance due to the bearing cavity oil was dominant in the resistance of bearing at high speed.
The lubrication characteristics of high-speed roller bearings at oil-starvation have been investigated empirically using the bearings employed in small industrial gas turbine engines. Testing was done by simulating the oil-starvation conditions in engines, such as stopping the oil-supply to the bearing during normal operating, starting without oil-supply at atmospheric temperature, and accelerating with oil-supply at atmospheric temperature. During testing, the temperature of bearing, the power consumption, and the rotating resistance of the bearing were measured. From this study, on the contrary to the ball bearing, it was found that the resistance of the bearing was higher at the regime of without oil-supply than that at the regime of with oil-supply, despite less power consumption.
