  • The purpose of this study was to examine the feasibility of standardizing the Bayley Scales of Infant Development(BSID) for Korean infants. To examine whether the Korean version of BSID is appropriate for Korean infants during the first 30 months of age, the Scale was administered to 285 Korean infants in 14 age groups. The infants were from intact and mostly middle-class families. According to item rewponse analyses of the Mental and the Motor Scales, the passing rate on each item increased by the infant's age. Regularity rather than irregularity was found on most items. Ordinarily of the Mental and the Motor Scale items in terns of age placement was similar to that of the U. S. sample. Several items, however, could be rearranged based on the data from the Korean sample. The total scores of the Mental and the Motor Scales reflected developmental trends in which score differences with a conjoining age group ranged from 3 to 15 for the Mental Scale, and 2 to 10 for the Motor Scale. Correlations between the two Scales in each age group were low to moderate (.03 to .67), with a median of .34. Reliabilities of the Korean version of the BSID in terms of the split-half reliability coefficients and the tester-observer agreements were satisfactory. Similarities as well as differences were found in developmental trends of infants between two cultures. A further study is needed not only to confirm results of this study but to set forth the standardization of the Bayley Scales to Korean infants.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the reference data of the National R&D Report database built by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information(KISTI) to derive problems and to find complementary points for the construction technical items in the system. To this end, we investigated the descriptions of references in the National R&D Report constructed in the KISTI DB and analyzed the construction process, guidelines, types, items, etc. Based on this, the appropriateness and accuracy of the classification results of the reference types constructed with the DB were checked. As a result, the problems of the items built into the system and corrections to the construction guidelines were derived. Through this, database construction can proceed efficiently and data quality is expected to improve. In addition, a follow-up study was proposed on the convergence service plan that can be provided in the future through standardization of technical regulations.

  • In March 2007, Korea's Ministry of Construction & Transportation (MOCT) established "Guidelines on the Computerization and Use of Geotechnical Investigation Results," which took effect as official instructions. The 2007 Geotechnical Information DB Construction Project is underway as a model project for a stable geotechnical information distribution system based on the MOCT guidelines, accompanied by user education on the geotechnical data distribution system. This study introduces a geotechnical data entry system characterized by the standardization of the geotechnical investigation form, the standardization of metadata for creating the geotechnical data to be distributed, and the creation of borehole space data based on the world geodetic system according to the changes in the national coordinate system, to define a unified DB structure and the items for the geotechnical data entry system and to computerize the field geotechnical investigation results using the MOCT guidelines. In addition, the present operating status of the geotechnical data entry system and entry data processing statistics are introduced through an analysis of the model project, and the problems of the project are analyzed to suggest improvements. Education on, and the implementation of, the model project for the geotechnical data entry system, which was developed via the standardization of the geotechnical investigation results form and the metadata for institutions showed that most users can use the system easily. There were problems, however, including those related to the complexity of metadata creation, partial errors in moving to the borehole data window, partial recognition errors in the installation program for different computer operating systems, etc. Especially, the individual standard form usage and the specificity of the person who enters the geotechnical information for the Korea National Housing Corporation, among the institutions under MOCT, required partial improvement of the geotechnical data entry system. The problems surfaced from this study will be promptly addressed in the operation and management of the geotechnical data DB center in 2008.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the standard size system of Saenghwal Hanbok for design development and popularization. As a sample, 20's and 40's female data among the 1997's National Somatometry Survey data were used because two groups have different somatic characteristics and design tastes with each other. The results are as follows; From t-test of 35 somatometric items in 20's and 40's female data, we knew that the differentiated size system proper to each age is needed. We also knew that the 38 Saenghwal Hanbok brands don't have consistent size system from investigation of size list and size application. From consideration on the number of size for production and coverage rate, we suggested regression formula by bust circumference and stature, and suggested advanced standard size system which are proper to each 20' and 40' female group.
