  • It is very important to improve the overall efficiency in exchanging construction information among project Parties from the project set-up through the project completion. However, each government agency in Korea tendering construction projects has different structures in classifying information. This results in inefficiency of overall construction projects and cost increasing. This requires establishing a new construction information classification system. This research suggests a framework for an analysis of a standard classification system in setting up a standard classification system and in evaluating its applicability to business processes. According to the identified requirements of the classification system, this research analyzes and compares existing information classification systems such as Uniclass, Uniformat, and Korean Standard Classification System of Construction Information, and then identifies problems and approaches for the improvement.

  • A better knowledge of emission inventories can serve several important functions such as provision of public information, identification of primary sources, assessment of temporal and spatial trend, and analysis for national modelling studies. The purpose of this paper is to propose the new air emission source categories on the basis of the Korea Standard Industrial Classification. Hence, the paper focuses on reviewing and comparing the air emission sources categories of USEPA, and EU. The new emission source categories compose Tiers 1, 2, and 3. For Tier 1, there are 14 categories; fuel combustion-utilities, industries, and heating and others, chemical and allied product manufacturing, metals processing, and petroleum and related industries, etc. Tier 2 consists of small categories classified minutely in Tier 1. Tier 3 connects the categories of Tier 2 with the Korea Standard Industrial Classification.

  • In order to construct a data warehouse of process plant equipment, a classification structure should be defined first, identifying not only the equipment categories but also attributes of an each equipment to represent the specifications of equipment. ISO 15926 Process Plants is an international standard dealing with the life-cycle data of process plant facilities. From the viewpoints of defining classification structure, Part 2 data model and Reference Data Library (RDL) of ISO 15926 are seen to respectively provide standard syntactic structure and semantic vocabulary, facilitating the exchange and sharing of plant equipment's life-cycle data. Therefore, the equipment data warehouse with an ISO 15926-based classification structure has the advantage of easy integration among different engineering systems. This paper introduces ISO 15926 and then discusses how to define a classification structure with ISO 15926 Part 2 data model and RDL. Finally, we describe the development result of an ISO 15926-based classification structure for a variety of equipment consisting in the reactor coolant system (RCS) of APR 1400 nuclear plant.

  • The problem of semantic interoperability in science and technology information is frequently raised. Well-established classification scheme will be used as a tool to interchange information between different databases without semantic inconsistency. However, there is still a practical barrier due to different classification schemes each database adopts. Accordingly, it is urgent to harmonize or reconcile those classifications with each other. This paper aims to solve semantic inconsistencies occurred when interchanging information between databases having different classification schemes, the Standard National Sci-Tech Classification and the Standard KISTI Classification. For the purpose a conceptual analysis of science and technology are performed and five consistency/inconsistency types are analyzed based on some examples.

  • This paper examines 'Religion Class' in the scheme of the DDC. The major findings of the study are summerized as follows. 1. The first edition of DDC was published in 1876 in order to classify Amherst College Library collections. In spite of the continuous study and revision of the experts, the frameworks of the DDC systems are still kept unchanged. Only their subdivisions, reflecting those developments in the academic world, are developed and detailed more sophisticatedly. 2. The division of 200 does not function as generalities for all class of religion. Therefore, it is necessary to amend the division of 200 to serve generalities for all the religions of the world. 3. Standard subdivision for the christian religion and for the non-christian religion is different. So, the mnemonic nature has become weakened due to the dual standard subdivisions and the classification number becomes much longer and complicated. Therefore, one standard subdivision for all religions of the world is required. 4. Religion science was organized in late 19 C and developed continuously, but the DDC does not accomodate the religion science as a science. Accodingly, the DDC should be revised recognize religion science as a science not the christian science. 5. The deployment of classification scheme in Dewey's 200 is severely biased. That is to say, 9 division were assigned for christian religion, whereas only 1 division was assigned for non-christian religion. Therefore, an adjustment should be made to allocate subdivisions equally to all religions of the world. 6. General classification order of religion is prehistoric, primitive, ancient, modem and world religion in religion science. But, DDC does not accept this general classification order of religion, sticking to the biased expansion towards christianity. Therefore, DDC must adopt the general classification order of religion in the religion science. 7. Lastly, because of the limitation of decimal notation in DC, DDC does not accomodate new subject equally and classification number becomes longer. Therefore, centesimal expansion is proposed in order to make the classification number short, to enlarge its capacity of inclusion of new subject and to maintain consistency in the scheme.

  • Since 1990s, we have achieved a certain level of success in standardization of design, construction, and material on housing and public buildings with the national-level promotion. A practical connecting device that can synthesize all the serial processes is required to maximize the effect of construction material standardization. However, desired outcome of the standardization is not achieved yet because these serial standards and notification practices are decided by each part of the process and some are congested. In this study, we aim to improve a general organizational system of Korean Industrial Standard (KS) which is the most fundamental tool for the standardization of construction materials moving from a conventional idea that the standard is only for the material and components producers to a concept that can also be shared by the designers and construction workers. To achieve this, we propose an improvement plan for the Korean Industrial Standard in the perspective of three-tier classification system.

  • This research aims at investigating the measures of agreement between BMI classification standard and that of 9-point contour drawing rating scale(CDRS), verifying their usefulness for the application to the filed, examining university students' substantial understanding of their bodies, and offering correct information regarding the distorted recognition of their bodies. In order to examine the measures of agreement between the classification standard of BMI and that of CDRS, and the women university students' recognition of their body images depending on BMI, Cross tabulation was carried out, and ${\chi}^2$, Spearman rank correlation coefficient and kappa statistics were calculated. As the analysis results, the classification standards of CDRS and BMI judged by general female college students showed statistically the correlation was high with ${\rho}=.719$(p<.001) and an average level of confirmity with ${\kappa}=.506$(p<.001). Based on these results, regarding body shape, sizes and shapes according to racial characteristics need to be controlled later.

  • Ministry of Science and Technology(MOST) has a plan to establish the National Science and Technology Information System(NTIS). For successful NTIS, there are three pre-standardizations. Standard classification is the one of the three standardizations. In this paper, the validity of current National Standard Classification of Science and Technology(NSCST) is analyzed for three aspects. One is the duplication of NSCST, one another is the high ratio of incorrectness of information changed by mapping table and the last is the incorrectness of the mapping table itself. So for the successful NTIS a new Science and Technology Classicication shoud be considered.
