Study of Standard Design Fire Curve of Various Railcar (철도차량별 표준 설계화재곡선 연구)

  • A study on the standardization of design fire HRR(heat release rate) curve was conducted for various railcar from the fire simulation or the fire tests. These standard curves are listed on the tunnel fire safety manual which will be used for the QRA(quantitative risk analysis) process of the long railway tunnels. The design fire curve is based with four simple factor representing the key of fire curve characteristics. Flashover time, maximum HRR and burn out time are the key factors of the design fire curve. Specially total heat release is decided by the burnable material amount in the car.

  • For the enhancement of structural safety of thermally damaged reinforced concrete structure, rapid evaluation of damage in the structure is very important. This study addresses a simplified method which is equivalent to the standard fire curve (ISO 834) for the residual bond strength evaluation. In the proposed method, a exposure duration as well as the maximum temperature can be considered. For the comparisons with conventional methods, concrete properties obtained from the report of Daegu subway fire accident were referred and the results support the applicability of the proposed method in this study.

  • In the authors' previous study, an axial force-flexural moment (P-M) interaction curve model was proposed to evaluate fire-resisting performances of reinforced concrete (RC) column members. The proposed method appeared to properly consider the axial and flexural strength degradations including the secondary moment effects in RC columns due to fire damage. However, the detailed P-M interaction curve model proposed in the authors' previous study requires somewhat complex computational procedures and iterative calculations, which makes it difficult to be used for practical design in its current form. Thus, the aim of this study was to develop a simplified P-M interaction curve model of RC columns exposed to fire considering the effects of fire damage on the material performances and magnitudes of secondary moments. The simplified P-M interaction model proposed in this study was verified using 66 column fire test results collected from literature, and the verification results showed that the proposed simplified method can provide an adequate analysis accuracy of the failure loads and fire-resisting times of the RC column specimens.

  • This paper has presented a finite element analysis of structural behaviour of box culvert during and after fires. The fire tests were carried out in a furnace on RC slabs using the ISO 834 standard fire curve. The load capacity after cooling of the RC slab that was not loaded during the fire tests was evaluated by means of additional 3 points bending tests. In the past, stress-strain models of concrete under fire loading have been proposed by several researchers. Comparisons are made with the load-displacement relations of RC slabs after fire loading using the existing stress-strain models with temperature, such as Schneider, EUROCODE 2, Lie, Shi and Nan model. By comparing the load-displacement relations, Lie model was found to result in a maximum load about 2.0% higher than that of test. Based on the fire test results of RC slabs, this paper presents an extensive analytical study on the fire response of box culvert during and after fires.

  • Recently, fire resistance in high-rise building is becoming major problem socially. So it is need of hour to study on fire resistance in buildings. This study estimates fire resistance performance to utilized CFT (Concrete filled steel tube, below CFT) column in the high structure. But it is difficult quantitative evaluation about fire resistant performance of CFT. Therefore, this study made CFT specimen that determine the factor which is strength of concrete and then CFT column was exposed to heating controlled as closely as possible the ISO-834 standard fire curve. Also, tried to analyze internal temperature through nonlinear transient heat flow analysis. And, presumed extant compressive strength on the basis of this.

  • In case of Korea, it goes frequently that underground parks has been burned. Based on standard temperature time curve(ISO-834), gerber, walls, slab of structures are constructed. However, Standard temperature time Curve is not considered that buildings are affected by vehicle fire. that is why it has the hazard that makes building reinforcement feeble. Based on the result that got from vehicle experiment before, we made four RC slab in this experiment and set the fire severity. according to the loading experiment after heating, we measured the effects that makes reinforcement and shape changes. Furthermore, we examined the safty of the structure by comparing before and after heating.

  • A variety of research projects have been undertaken due to the recent catastrophic tunnel fires throughout the world, Among them, more emphasis was given to full scale and scale model fire experiments, and recently the area of fire resistance of tunnel structures attract more interests, On the contrary to the cases in most of the advanced countries where design standards as well as recommendations have already been announced, no local criteria for design can be found, This paper aims at deriving the fire characteristics appropriate for the assessment criteria of fire resistance of structures in local tunnels through studying the existing fire temperature curves including ISO 834 standard temperature curve, HC curve, RWS curve, ZTV curve and EBA curve.

  • Fire intensity in tunnel fire is very severe, which might cause the spalling on the surface of shotcrete and concrete lining exposed to the heat as well as rapidly-reducing stress due to heat transfer by steel material such as anchor embedded in tunnel which plays the critical role in securing the stability of the tunnel. In this study, a fire test to identity the heat intensity(Modifired Hydrocarbon Curve) and the fire resistance of steel materials embedded as parameters, was carried out. And the evaluation to identify the thermal damage, which was based on critical temperature range for thermal damage of steel materials determined according to the road tunnel fire resistance standard established by ITA(International Tunneling Association).

  • This study is performed to apply a standard to evaluate fire protection assessment for tunnel structures when a fire breaks out in the road tunnel. Recently, a number of road tunnels have been rapidly increased and fire risk also multiplyed according to extend tunnel length, due to natural features and environmentally-friendly road construction in Korea. But we have not yet been prescribed appropriate time-temperature curve for tunnel fire. Therefore, we presented fire design model and investigated time-temperature curve proposed by a foreign country considering traffic, a kinds of vehicles which are a basis of heat rate. At the end, Hydrocarbon modified curve applied as design fire model by using numerical analysis and presented design fire model and examined the effects of tunnel structures.
