  • It is known that about 15 to 40 percent of total design time is spent on retrieving information such as standard parts handbook data, engineering equations, previous designs. This paper describes a knowledge management system for machine tool design. Product structuring, change management, and complex design knowledge management are possible through the developed system. The system can speed up the design process by making necessary data instantly available as it is needed and keeping track of all the relevant design information and knowledge including individual decisions, design intentions, documents, and drawings.

  • There have been several efforts for the investigation of the formal development team which was formed in the IAI to develop a common 2D standard specification between ISO/STEP and IAI/IFC since 2002. As a result, a drafting model has been included in the IFC2.x2 model. However, to be used actively in the construction practice for construction drawing exchange, the IFC model should be extended to the paper space for multiple views, drawing output, and delivery of drawings. Therefore, in this paper, the methodology of relating STEP and IFC has been investigated and schema extension of paper space(drawing sheet, presentation view, view pipeline), complex entity(leader), and dimension(associative) have been achieved. The resulting, IFC model will enable a basic harmonization with KOSDIC. SCADEC, and STEP-CDS by retaining the current IFC architecture. In addition, IT systems for the construction industry can be beneficial from the developed data model.

  • The CAD system which enables to design and draw the screw thread gauges was developed and constructed. This system was proposed based on Visual C++ Version 5.0. Even beginners can get drawings as well as concerned data for the manufacturing of screw thread limit gauges by selecting the input data. This system was constructed form relevant standards and regulations and was developed based on the Korean Standard and referred to ISO, JIS, handbooks and textbooks. This system shall provide more powerful and user friendly tool for design and drawing for screw thread gauges such as metric fine and coarse threads, unified fine and coarse threads, parallel and taper pipe threads. The results of this system are proved to be in good agreement with concerned standards and regulations.

  • Utilizing pump selection softwares is becoming a new general trend in pump industries, substituting the old fashioned pump catalogs. One of the most powerful pump selection softwares is developed, which features pump performance viscosity correction function as well as pump selection based on the exact pump performance curves, NPSH warning, automatic determination of impeller diameter cutting to meet the customer's performance specification, performance simulation for the rpm and diameter variation, standard motor recommendation according to the motor standards and enclosure types and automatic pump datasheet generation for sales submission, automatic pump drawings and dimension generation for installation check and part preparation. This software provides pump distributors and customers with a quick, easy and exact pump selection, various performance curves review (system curves, performance curve of series or parallel operation) of the selected pumps.

  • The purpose of this study was analyze the space organizational characteristics of heath facilities for the elderly in Japan, in order to refer them in establishing the planning direction in Korea. Therefore the 79 architectural drawings, which was gathered through mailed self-reported questionnaires in Japan and standard of heath facilities for the elderly have been analysed for this study. The results of the study were following: The spatial composition was categorized into living space, public use space, nursing, medical treatment, management, provision, and home assistance, and daycare. Moreover, coupling method of respective space was diversity according to inmate satisfaction measurement and form of service. In order to do that, this study has classified type of health facilities into 6 types on the basis of the space of position and space organization characteristics. Therefore study shows the functional relationships of spaces, the proportions of departmental areas in each type.

  • 건설산업의 전자도면 작성을 위한 CAD분야는 해외 특정 소프트웨어가 시장을 90%이상 점유하여 기술종속으로 인한 CAD 기술의 자립화 문제가 심각하다. 건설산업에서 발생하는 전자도면의 작성을 위한 프로그램 사용은 자유경쟁을 통한 시장의 흐름에 따른 것이나, 공공기관에서 발주하는 건설사업의 전자도면 관리와 재활용을 위해서는 특정 회사의 과다 독점으로 인한 기술종속에 대한 대책이 필요하다. 따라서, 다양한 CAD 시스템에서 작성한 전자도면을 국내표준에 부합하는 도면으로 변환 가능한 모델러의 개발 방안을 제안한다.

Vulnerability of roofing components to wind loads

  • The vulnerability of roofing components of contemporary houses built in cyclonic regions of Australia is assessed for increasing wind speeds. The wind loads and the component strengths are treated as random variables with their probability distributions derived from available data, testing, structural analysis and experience. Design details including types of structural components of houses are obtained from surveying houses and analyzing engineering drawings. Wind load statistics on different areas of the roof are obtained by wind tunnel model studies and compared with Australian/New Zealand Standard, AS/NZS 1170.2. Reliability methods are used for calculating the vulnerability of roofing components independently over the roof. Cladding and batten fixings near the windward gable edge are found to experience larger negative pressures than prescribed in AS/NZS 1170.2, and are most vulnerable to failure.

  • As a futuristic construction model, building information model(BIM) based project management system(PMIS) and mobile PMIS have been showing visible sign. However, researches on the 3D BIM based PMIS using mobile device are hard to find, result from limitation of mobile device application(slow speed at huge BIM file, display size, and etc.) and undefined standard of business processes. Therefore, this research aims at studying feasibility of mobile BIM PMIS based on cloud computing as a business model. In case of applying mobile BIM PMIS, 3D drawings and integrated building informations are possible on mobile devices in real time. it would support increasing the productivity of project participants as designer, engineer, supervisor, and etc. Globally, BIM based PMIS and Mobile BIM system, cloud computing based mobile BIM simulator are in the concept or experimental phase, therefore it is possible to secure global leading technology of IT and construction merger in the mobile BIM.

  • There are many types of BOM, such as EBOM, MBOM, As-Built BOM, As-Designed BOM, Generic BOM, Customized BOM, etc. We should define an adequate BOM to achieve some purposes. In this paper, we proposed BOM structure for EMU Maintenance Information System. First of all, we define Master BOM including all part's information, such as 2D/3D drawings, images, specification, etc. And then we define Object BOM that is functional structure for someone to achieve maintenance works. Object BOM will be applied to configure sales orders, explode aggregate forecasts, and calculate standard cost.

  • The purpose of this study was to set the standard man-hour of welding work. The case study was conducted at C Tech where makes and installs conveyor. Because most of orders are non-fixed, all jobs are vary in shape and size. To conduct this study, drawings of sample were reviewed and compared with measured man-hours of welding works. As a result, the different ratio of expected require man-hour and measured man-hour was 4%. It is reasonable that the present applied efficiency of aimed man-hour is 85%.
