An Intelligent bridge with an advanced monitoring system and smart control techniques

  • This paper introduces an approach to the realization of an ICT-based bridge remote monitoring system that enables real-time monitoring and controlled adjustments for unexpected heavy loads and also for damaging earthquakes or typhoons. In this paper, an integrated bridge remote monitoring system called the "Intelligent Bridge", which consists of a stand-alone monitoring system (SMS) and a web-based Internet monitoring system(IMS), was developed for not only bridge maintenance but also as an application for a para-stressing bridge system. To verify the possibility of controlling the actual structural performance of an "Intelligent Bridge", a model 2-span continuous cable-stayed bridge with adjustable cables was constructed. The experimental results demonstrate that the implemented monitoring system supplies detailed and accurate information about bridge behaviour for further evaluation and diagnosis, and it also opens up prospects for future application of a web-based remote system to actually adjust in-service bridges under field conditions.

  • Recently, the increased interest in environmental issues has led to extensive research for development of green energy generation systems. However, only one type of generation system may not be sufficient for stand-alone mode because it cannot cope with the irregularity of weather condition. A hybrid generation system is able to make up for the weakness of each system. In this paper, a stand-alone hybrid wind/PV system is developed that can guarantee the stable energy supply. The system is suitable for power supply under 50W, and a vertical savonius type of blade was designed and applied for the wind generation system.

  • This paper is proposed that the photovoltaic/fuel cell hybrid generation system for the stand-alone system. In case of the photovoltaic generation system, it depends on the weather condition, irradiation and so on... On the contrary, fuel cell has not this limitation. It can be interactive generation system between photovoltaic and fuel cell. This paper simulated stand-alone co-generation system based on the control of DC link. Moreover, 1[kw] BLDC motor system with speed and hysteresis current controller is used for the proposed system.

Performance Enhancement of Low-Cost Land Navigation System for Location-Based Service

  • This work demonstrates a dead-reckoning (DR) scheme for a low-cost land navigation system and a DR/GPS system design using the sigma point Kalman filter (SPKF). T hrough an observability analysis and some simulations, it is shown that the performances of a stand-alone DR system and DR/GPS system can be improved by employing the proposed DR scheme and SPKF. By using the designed DR scheme and filter, the stand-alone DR system does not have any undetectable errors occurring on the curve trajectory. And the DR/GPS system can provide a stable and seamless navigational solution even in the case where the initial heading estimation error is large, such as 160 degrees, or when the GPS signal is unavailable due to tunnels, buildings, and so on. Simulation results indicate a satisfactory performance of the proposed system.

  • As the reduction of greenhouse gases(GHGs) emission has become a global issue, the microgrid markets are growing rapidly. With the sudden changes in the market, Korean government suggested a new business model called 'Self-Sufficient Energy Islands'. Its main concern is a stand-alone microgrid composed of Distributed Energy Resources(DERs) such as Renewable Energy Sources(RESs), Energy Storage System(ESS) and Fuel Cell, in order to minimize the emission of GHGs. According to these trend, this paper is written to propose an optimal sizing method of DERs in a stand-alone microgrid by using Genetic Algorithm(GA), one of the representative stochastic methods. It is to minimize the net present cost with the variables, size of RESs and ESS. In the process for optimization, the sunless days are considered as additional constraints. Through the case study analysis, the size of DERs installed in a microgrid system has been computed using the proposed method in MATLAB. And the result of MATLAB is compared with that of HOMER(Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources), a well-known energy modeling software.

  • 태양의 고도와 방위각에 따라 태양광 발전 시스템의 에너지량이 차이가 많이 난다. 본 연구는 소규모 독립형 시스템인 가로등에 맞는 경제적인 추적장치 개발에 관한 것이다. 위치추적시스템은 프로그램을 사용한 방식으로서 시스템을 기존 유사 시스템에 비해 저가화를 실현하였다. 개발된 태양 위치 추적 시스템을 가로등에 적용하여 고정식과 추적식의 에너지량을 일정 기간 동안 실측 비교한 결과 평균 86%의 효율개선 효과를 보았다.

  • 본 논문에서는 신재생에너지원을 포함하는 독립형 마이크로그리드시스템의 멀티에이전트시스템 기반의 분산에너지관리시스템 설계를 위한 통합시뮬레이션 모델을 제안한다. 멀티에이전트기반 분산에너지관리시스템은 일반적인 중앙에너지관리시스템에 비해 여러 장점들을 가지고 있으나 각 상태에 따른 설계가 비교적 복잡하여 기존의 전력시스템 도구를 이용하여 분산 에너지관리시스템을 설계하기에는 많은 어려운 점들이 있었다. 또한 설계된 에너지관리시스템을 실제 시스템에 적용하여 평가하는 것은 비능률적이기 때문에 효과적인 에너지관시스템을 설계하기 위해서는 통합시뮬레이션 모델이 필요하다. 제안된 통합시뮬레이션 모델은 Matlab/Simpowersystem 기반의 마이크로그리드시스템의 시뮬레이션 모델과 이벤트기반의 알고리즘 설계에 많은 장점이 있는 Matlab/StateFlow을 이용하여 설계된 멀티에이전트기반의 분산에너지관리시스템으로 구성되었다. 통합시뮬레이션 모델의 효용성을 보이기 위하여 특정한 동작 조건들에서 제안된 모델의 출력들을 분석하였다.

Stand-Alone Wind Energy Conversion System with an Asynchronous Generator

  • This paper deals with a stand-alone wind energy conversion system (WECS) with an isolated asynchronous generator (IAG) and voltage and frequency (VF) control feeding three-phase four-wire loads. The reference generator currents are estimated using the instantaneous symmetrical component theory to control the voltage and frequency of an IAG system. A three-leg voltage source converter (VSC) with an isolated star/delta transformer is used as an integrated VSC. An integrated VSC with a battery energy storage system (BESS) is used to control the active and reactive powers of the WECS. The WECS is modeled and simulated in MATLAB using the Simulink and the Sim Power System (SPS) toolboxes. The proposed VF controller functions as a voltage and frequency regulator, a load leveler, a load balancer and a harmonic eliminator in the WECS. A comparison is made on the rating of the VSC with and without ac capacitors connected at the terminals of an IAG. Simulation and test results are presented to verify the control algorithm.

  • This paper deals with stand-alone PV power generation system with charge and discharge controller for the LED road sign. Main power source of PV system are generally solar cell and battery. Therefore PV system can be classified into variable types in accordance with connection type between battery and solar sell. Mainly used on of them is direct connection type which has advantage such as simple structure and simple controller. To verify the proposed PV generation system for the LED road sign, the detail simulation and experiment results indicate that operating characteristics are verified by experiment with a laboratory prototype in this paper.

OpenVSLAM 기반의 협력형 모바일 SLAM 시스템 설계 (OpenVSLAM-based Cooperative Mobile AR System Architecture)

  • In this paper, we designed, implemented, and verified the SLAM system that can be used on mobile devices. Mobile SLAM is composed of a stand-alone type that directly performs SLAM operation on a mobile device, and a mapping server type that additionally configures a mapping server based on FastAPI to perform SLAM operation on the server and transmits data for map visualization to a mobile device. The mobile SLAM system proposed in this paper is to mix the two types in order to make SLAM operation and map generation more efficient. The stand-alone type SLAM system was configured as an Android app by porting the OpenVSLAM library to the Unity engine, and the map generation and performance were evaluated on desktop PCs and mobile devices. The mobile SLAM system in this paper is an open source project, so it is expected to help develop AR contents based on SLAM in a mobile environment.
