  • Nowadays, in islands where electricity should be provided autonomously, stand-alone microgrid technologies using renewable energy such as sunlight generation and wind power generation come into wide use. The microgrid electricity generation using renewable energy is greatly affected by the natural environment of a site. In order to maintain stable electricity supply for fluctuating electricity generation due to natural environment, the energy management via EMS is positively necessary. In existing stand-alone microgrid EMS, system operation logic is not changeable flexibly because compiled or builded codes are released into the EMS of a site, respectively. In this paper, we designed a flexible operating script-based microgrid EMS Framework for various sites and applied it to some island sites. We could confirm its usability.

  • Stand-alone cervical cage consists of a PEEK body, Ti plate, and screw, which are configured as a single-piece. Through a single operation, this implantable medical device is capable of completely fixing the cervical vertebral body. For example, instead of a plate, which is normally used, the intervertebral disc is removed and replaced with a cervical cage. It should be noted that in Korea, KFDA guidelines for a stand-alone cervical cage have not yet been suggested. Therefore, the aim of this study is to present the systematic study of the static compression test, static torsion test, dynamic compression test, and expulsion test. Further, the test method is designed to refer to the ASTM standard and relative literature.

  • This paper presents the method of ESS energy capacity calculation for stand-alone renewable energy generation system consisting of photovoltaic energy. There is almost no power from photovoltaic system during sunless days. So this source is very weak in terms of the power supply reliability. To improve problem of power supply, battery is mainly used Energy Storage System(ESS). The number of sunless days and Depth of Discharge(DOD) is important factor to determine energy capacity of battery. However, a many study for economical design is required due to the high cost of ESS. In this paper, we propose the new method of ESS energy capacity calculation by applying different DOD for operation with and without sun. We determine the Battery capacity using higher DOD of operation during sunless day than the DOD of the normal operation. And we carried out an economic analysis of the calculation results.

Dynamic Economic Dispatch and Control of a Stand-alone Microgrid in DongAo Island

  • A dynamic economic dispatch and control method is proposed to minimize the overall generating cost for a stand-alone microgrid in DongAo Island, which is integrated with wind turbine generator, solar PV, diesel generator, battery storage, the seawater desalination system and the conventional loads. A new dispatching strategy is presented based on the ranking of component generation costs and two different control modes, in which diesel generator and battery storage alternate to act as the master power source to follow system power fluctuation. The optimal models and GA-based optimization process are given to minimize the overall system generating cost subject to the corresponding constraints and the proposed dispatch strategy. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified in the stand-alone microgrid in DongAo Island, and the results provide a feasible theoretical and technical basis for optimal energy management and operation control of stand-alone microgrid.

독립형 DC 마이크로그리드의 최적화 설계와 협조적 제어 (Optimized Design and Coordinated Control for Stand-alone DC Micro-grid)

  • This paper describes the coordinated droop control method for stand-alone type DC micro-grid to improve reliability and utilization of distributed generations and energy storage. The stand-alone type DC micro-grid consists of several distributed generations such as a wind power generation, solar power and micro-turbine, and energy storage. The proposed method which is based on autonomous control method shows high reliability and stability through coordinated droop control of distributed generations and energy storage and also capability of battery management. The operation of stand-alone type DC micro-grid was analyzed using detail simulation model with PSCAD/EMTDC software. Based on simulation results, a hardware simulator was built and tested with commercially available components and performance of system was verified.

  • 일반적으로 DAB 시스템은 크게 stand-alone 방식과 PC/PDA 기반 방식으로 구분할 수 있다. PC/PDA 기반 방식은 stand-alone 방식에 비하여 휴대성이 떨어지나 연결된 PC/PDA의 메모리와 오디오/비디오 디코더 등 다양한 리소스를 이용할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 본 논문에서 구현한 DAB 수신기는 USB 인터페이스를 이용한 PC 기반의 수신기 시스템으로 USB 인터페이스 브리지는 FPGA와 EZ-USB 개발 키트를 이용하여 설계하였으며 실험을 위하여 기존의 stand-alone 방식의 DRK-026 DAB 수신기를 이용하여 PC 기반의 수신기를 구현하였다. USB 인터페이스 브리지는 시리얼 데이터를 USB 패킷 형태로 변환시켜주며 모든 신호는 하드웨어적으로 제어한다. 구현한 PC 기반 DAB 수신기의 동작 여부는 DAB 수신기로부터 오디오 데이터를 수신하여 USB 인터페이스를 통하여 PC에 전송한 후 디코딩 기능을 수행하는 것으로 확인하였다.

  • Most of the present demand in the world is met by fossil and nuclear power plants. A small part is met by renewable energy technologies. Among the renewable power sources, wind and solar energy have experienced a remarkably rapid growth in the past 10 years. Recently the utilization of wind power has been receiving close attention in this country, especially for the electrification of off-shore islands. The objective of this study is to demonstrate a small wind energy system as a stand-alone power source.

  • In view of global environmental problems and resource exhaustion, we must develop new energy resources that are abundant and provide substitutes for fossil fuels. Renewable energies, such as solar, are ideal because they are clean, inexhaustible, and available everywhere in the world. Photovoltaic(PV) system, in general, are operated as a stand-alone, grid-tied, or hybrid system. Many of the stand-alone PV systems are installed. Although the pre-installation cost of PV system is high, it poorly has been operated due to the absence of optimal management standards. Therefore a study on the performance of PV system is important for the system design and maintenance. In this paper a photovoltaic lighting system was resigned according to load consumption. Then a PV lighting system which used electrodeless lamp as a load was installed. In order to investigate the system operating characteristics we've added a monitoring system to the PV lighting system. The monitoring system using the LabVIEW program regularly checks the operation of the PV lighting system and records the system data. According to the system data, the stability and availability of the PV lighting system were evaluated.

Performance Analysis of a Stand-alone Brushless Doubly-fed Induction Generator Using a New T-type Steady-state Model

  • The brushless doubly-fed induction generator (BDFIG) is a new type of dual stator winding induction generator. In such a generator, both the power winding (PW) and the control winding (CW) are housed in the stator. This paper presents the performance characteristics of a stand-alone BDFIG operation system. A new T-type steady-state model of a BDFIG is proposed. This model is more suitable for the performance analysis of stand-alone BDFIGs than the conventional Π-type steady-state model and the simplified inner core steady-state model. The characteristics of the power flow and CW current are analyzed by detailed mathematical derivations on the basis of the proposed T-type steady-state model. The analysis results are verified by experiments, which are carried out on a prototype BDFIG. The results of the performance analysis contribute to simplifying the control circuit, improving the control performance, and selecting an appropriate BDFIG for actual industrial applications.

소형 독립형 풍력발전기의 진동 모니터링 및 분석 (Vibration Monitoring and Analysis of a Small Stand Alone Wind Turbine Generator)

  • A vibration monitoring system for a small size wind turbine (WIT) is established and operated. The monitoring system consists of monolithic integrated chip accelerometer for vibration monitoring, anemometers for wind data acquisition and auxiliary sensors for atmospheric data. Using the monitoring system, vibration response of a 6kW stand alone WIT generator is investigated. Acceleration data of the WIT tower under various operation condition is acquired in real time using LabVIEW and the data are remotely transferred from the test site to the laboratory in school by internet. Vibration response characteristics of the tower structure are diagnosed in the aspect of stability of W/T. Wind data and electrical power performance are also investigated with the stability problem.
