Soil respiration rate was measured from March to November 2003 using the KOH absorption method in Pinus densiflora, Quercus variabilis, Platycarya strobilacea stands in Jinju, Gyeongnam Province. Throughout the study period, average soil temperature and moisture content were 16.2$^{\circ}C$, 25.1% for P. densiflora stand, 17.1$^{\circ}C$, 24.3% for Q. variabilis stand, and 17.6$^{\circ}C$, 25.1% for P. strobilacea stand, respectively. The seasonal fluctuations of soil respiration rate increasing in summer and decreasing in winter, which there were strong positive correlations of soil respiration and soil temperature in all study stands. However, there were no significant correlations between soil moisture and soil respiration. Soil respiration rates throughout the study period ranged from 0.12 to 0.77 for P. densiflora stand, 0.23 to 1.37 for Q. valiabilis stand, and 0.30 to 1.47 g $CO_2\cdotm^{-2}\cdothr^{ -1}$ for P. strobilacea stand, respectively. Mean soil respiration rates in P. densiflora, Q. variabilis, P. strobilacea stands were 0.43, 0.80, and 0.90 g $CO_2\cdotm^{-2}\cdothr^{ -1}$, respectively. The Q$_{10}$ values were 2.38 for P. densiflora stand, 2.11 for Q. variabilis stand, and 2.07 for P. strobilacea stand. Annual total soil respiration was 24 for P. densiflora stand, 49.3 for Q. variabilis stand, and 55.3 t $CO_2\cdotha^{-1}\cdotyr^{ -1}$ for P. strobilacea stand, respectively.y.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of visual and auditory biofeedback during sit-to-stand training in patients with stroke. METHODS: Thirty-five subjects with chronic stroke were divided into three groups: a visual feedback group (12 subjects), an auditory feedback group (12 subjects) and a control group (11 subjects). All Groups received neurodevelopmental treatment, and sit-to-stand training for 30minutes three times a week for four weeks. During the sit to stand training, the experimental groups received visual feedback and auditory feedback, whereas the control group performed sit-to-stand training without feedback. Five times sit-to-stand test (FTSST), motion analysis and postural sway during sit-to-stand were used to evaluate sit to stand performance ability. In addition, Berg balance scale (BBS) was performed for evaluation of balance function in participants. RESULTS: All groups showed significant increase on FTSST and BBS between pre- and post-intervention. The BBS scores in visual feedback group was significant increase than control group. The motion analysis and postural sway, more improvement was observed in the visual and auditory feedback groups compared with the control group. The only visual feedback group was a better performance of midline excursion during sit-to-stand than control group. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that sit-to-stand training using a biofeedback may help to improve sit to stand performance and balance ability of stroke patients.

This paper propose seamless transfer operation between grid-connected and stand-alone mode in the three-phase inverter for microgrid. The inverter operates grid-connected mode and stand-alone mode. Grid-connected mode is the inverter connected to grid and stand-alone mode is to deliver energy to the load from inverter at grid fault. When conversion from gird-connected to stand-alone mode, the inverter changes current control to voltage control. When grid restored, the inverter system is conversion from stand-alone to grid-connected mode. In this case, load phase and grid phase are different. Therefore, synchronization is essential. Thus Seamless transfer operation stand-alone to grid-connected mode. In this paper, propose sealmless transfer operation between grid-connceted and stand-alome mode, and this method is verified through simulation and experiment.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the effectiveness of repetitive sit to stand training to improve knee extensor strength and walking ability of total knee replacement patients. Methods: In this study, 12 patients with total knee replacement patients were recruited from a rehabilitation hospital. They were divided into two groups: a repetitive sit to stand group (n=6) and a control group (n=6). They all received 30 minutes of continuous passive motion (CPM). After that, the repetitive sit to stand group performed repetitive sit to stand training, and the control group performed resistance exercise for 15 minutes five times a week for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks of training, knee extensor strength and spatiotemporal gait parameters were measured. Knee extensor strength was measured by Biodex system 3, walking ability was measured by Biodex gait trainer 2. Paired t test was performed to verify the difference between before and after intervention within the group, and analysis of covariance was used to verify the differences between the two groups. Results: After the training periods, the repetitive sit to stand group showed a significant improvement in knee extensor muscle strength, walking speed, step length of the operated side, and step length of the non-operated side (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that repetitive sit to stand training was more effective in improving knee extensor muscle strength and walking ability. Therefore, to strengthen knee extensor muscles and improve the walking ability of total knee replacement patients, it is necessary to consider repetitive sit to stand training.

This study was conducted to estimate the changes of stand diversity before and after applying three different silvicultural treatments such as selection cutting system, two-storied system, and shelterwood system. Data were collected in the natural deciduous forests in Pyungchang of Gangwon Province, Korea. Nine permanent sampling plots of 0.09 ha were established in the forests and the each of silvicultural treatments was applied to three sampling plots, respectively. Some tree variables were measured in each stand before and after the silvicultural treatments were applied. With these data, stand attributes were estimated in each stand before and after the silvicultural treatments. In this study, two different indices related to each of stand diversity indices such as contagion, DBH-difference, height-difference, and mingling were estimated and compared to analyze the differences of stand diversity among the stands before and after silvicultural treatments. As a result, total eight stand diversity indices were used to analyze the differences among structures of stands managed by three different silvicultural treatments. Duncan's multiple range test and t-test were then employed to statistically analyze the difference of stand diversity among the stands. The results revealed that stand structures seem to be improved after applying the silvicultural treatments. There are significant differences in the stand diversity indices between before and after silvicultural treatments for each stand. According to the evaluation of stand diversity indices, it was confirmed that spatial structure of the stands was improved by applying the silvicultural treatments.

The objective of this study was to estimate the changes of stand structure before and after applying the three different silvicultural treatments such as selection cutting system, two-storied system, and shelterwood system. This study has been conducted in the natural deciduous forests in Pyungchang of Gangwon Province, Korea. Three permanent sampling plots of 0.09 ha were established in the forests and the three silvicultural treatments were applied in 2008. For this study, some tree variables were measured in each stand before and after the silvicultural treatments were applied. With these data, stand attributes were estimated in each stand before and after the silvicultural treatments. In this study, four stand structure indices were used to analyze the differences among structures of stands managed by three different silvicultural treatments. Contagion index, DBH-difference index, height-difference index, and mingling index were estimated and compared to analyze the differences of stand structures among the stands before and after silvicultural treatments. Duncan's multiple range test and t-test were then employed to statistically analyze the difference of stand structure among the stands. The results revealed that all of the stand structure indices seem to be increased after applying the silvicultural treatments. There are significant differences in the stand structure indices between before and after silvicultural treatments for each stand. According to the evaluation of stand structure indices, it was confirmed that spatial structure of the stands was improved by applying the silvicultural treatments. For attaining the specific goal of each stand types acquired by different silvicultural treatments, the frequencies and amounts of additional practices should be decided based on the changes of stand structure as time passed.

PURPOSE: This study examined the center of pressure (COP) and ground reaction force (GRF) characteristics during each task-oriented sit-to-stand in stroke patients. METHODS: Twenty stroke subjects were included in this study. The task consisted of sit-to-stand (SS), sit-to-stand for reaching (SR), and sit-to-stand for walking (SW). The response time, COP, and GRF were measured during each task. The COP and GRF data were obtained using a two-force plate. The force plates were placed on a chair (below the buttock) and floor (below the feet). RESULTS: Significant differences were observed between SS (1.48 ± .48 s) and SR (2.09 ± 0.82 s) and between SS and SW (2.27 ± .72 s) in the preparatory phase time during each sit-to-stand exercise (p = .002) and showed significant differences between SS (13.90 ± 6.44 cm) and SW (34.62 ± 39.38 cm) and between SR (16.14 ± 8.04 cm) and SW in the mediolateral COP range during each sit-to-stand exercise (p = .013). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that more complex task-oriented sit-to-stand exercise requires a high-level motor programming process than a simple sit-to-stand task. Therefore, a variety of tasks-oriented sit-to-stand exercises will be useful training to achieve better ADL ability for stroke patients.
Diameter distributions describe forest stand structure information. Prediction equations for percentiles of diameter distribution and parameter recovery procedures for the Weibull distribution function based on four percentile equations were applied to develop prediction system of even-aged slash pine stand structure development in terms of the number of stems per diameter class changes. Four percentiles of the cumulative diameter distribution were predicted as a function of stand characteristics. The predicted diameter distributions were tested against the observed diameter distributions using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov two sample test at the ${\alpha}$=0.05 level. Statistically, no significant differences were detected based on the data from 236 evaluation data sets. This stand level diameter distribution prediction system will be useful in slash pine stand structure modeling and in updating forest inventories for the long-term forest management planning.

This study was conducted to estimate the carbon (C) contents in pure and mixed stands of pine (Pinus densiflora) and oak (Quercus spp.) trees for establishing the C inventory of forest ecosystems. A total of fifteen 20 m${\times}$20 m pure and mixed stands of pine and oak trees were chosen in natural forests in Hoengseong, Kangwon based on the basal area of all trees ${\geq}$ 5 cm DBH: three of 95% of pine and 5% oak trees [pine stand], three of 100% of oak trees [oak stand], and nine of 20 to 70% of pine and 80 to 30% of oak trees [mixed stand]. To estimate C contents in the study stands, biomass in vegetation, forest floor and coarse woody debris (CWD) were calculated and C concentrations in vegetation, forest floor, CWD and soil (0-30 cm) were analyzed. There was no significant difference in vegetation C contents among the stands; 147.6 Mg C/ha for the oak stand, 141.4 Mg C/ha for the pine stand and 115.8 Mg C/ha for the mixed stand. Forest floor C contents were significantly different among the stands (p<0.05); 12.7 Mg/ha for the pine stand, 9.9 Mg/ha for the oak stand, and 8.4 Mg/ha for the mixed stand. However, CWD C contents were not significantly different among the stands (p>0.05); 2.2 Mg/ha for the mixed stand, 1.7 Mg/ha for the oak stand, and 1.1 Mg/ha for the pine stand. Soil C contents up to 30 cm depth were not significantly different among the study stands; 44.4 Mg C/ha for the pine stand, 41.6 Mg C/ha for the mixed stand, and 33.3 Mg C/ha for the oak stand. Total ecosystem C contents were lower in the mixed stand than those in the pure stands, because vegetation C contents which occupied almost total ecosystem C contents were lower in the mixed stand than those in the pure stands; 199.6 Mg C/ha for the pine stand, 192.5 Mg C/ha for the oak stand and 169.1 Mg C/ha for the mixed stand. Lower vegetation C contents in the mixed stand might be influenced by interspecific competition between pine and oak trees and intraspecific competition among the oak trees resulted from high stand density. We suggest that forest management such as thinning to enhance C storage is indispensible for minimizing the competition in forest ecosystems.

Four natural Quercus stands in Kwangju, Kyonggi-Do, of which ages ranging from 32 to 38 years old, were studied to compare their growth, biomass and net production. Ten $10m{\times}10m$ quadrats were set up and ten sample trees were harvested for dimension analysis in each stand. The largest mean DBH and height were shown by Q. acutissima stand, and followed by Q. variabilis stand, Q. mongolica stand, and Q. dentata stand in descending order. Tree density was the highest at Q. variabilis stand, and followed by Q. dentata stand, Q. mongolica stand, and Q. acutissima stand in descending order. Biomass was the largest at Q. acutissima stand(122.73t/ha), and followed by Q. variabilis stand(87.03t/ha), Q. mongolica stand(72.14t/ha), and Q. dentata stand(38.56t/ha) in descending order. Net production was the greatest at Q. mongolica stand(7.49t/ha/yr.), and followed by Q. variabilis stand(6.47t/ha/yr.), Q. acutissima stand(6.06t/ha/yr.), and Q. dentata stand(3.52t/ha/yr.) in descending order. The highest net assimilation ratio was exhibited by Q. acutissima stand (3.275), and followed by Q. variabilis stand(2.898), Q. mongolica stand(2.888), and Q. dentata stand (1.840) in descending order. The difference in net assimilation ratio and net production among four stands was caused by differences in their leaf biomass. The difference in net production and biomass among four stands was due to that in the distribution of net production among stems, branches and leaves.
