Characterization of Mechanical Properties of Boron Steel Sheet in Hot Bending Process with Various Parameters

  • Hot press forming is a new forming process which also names as hot stamping. It can greatly enhance the formability of forming parts. This paper researches the formability of boron steel sheet in hot bending process which is a kind of hot press forming. In the text, the influence of hot press forming processing parameters, such as the heating temperature, blank holding force, punch speed and punch and die radius, on the mechanics properties and microstructure of the hot bending parts was analyzed by tension test and the metallographic observation on the parts with various processing parameters. The relationship between blank holding force and punch load was also presented.

  • Tube hydroforming is a relatively new technology in comparison with conventional stamping process. Thus, there is no large knowledge base to assist the product and process designers, especially from the friction point of view. This paper covers the topic f friction and lubrication with regard to tube hydroforming. It presents the fact that frictional characteristic can have an effect on the formability of specific components. It also presents the results of test about several lubricants which are used in practical press process. The presented concept describes the equipment which is required to determine the friction coefficient.

  • The weld line location and the weld line movement in stamping with laser-tailor welded blanks(TWB) were investigated through square cup deep drawing tests. The step blank holder was introduced to form TWB of different thicknesses without wrinkling, and the non-uniform blank holding force(BHF) was enforced to control weld line movement. Test results of the blanks with shifted weld lines showed that the large portion of the thinner area could result in a large weld line movement. Careful selection of the weld line location and the BHF control should be adapted in TWB design to avoid failures and to ensure its formability.

  • In automotive industries, stamping of laser-welded blank gives many merits which brings about dimensional accuracy, strong body assembly and high productivity. However the welding of blanks with different thickness or/and different strength materials introduces many challenging formability problems for process development and tool design. In this paper, the deformation characteristics for deep drawing process of laser-welded blank with different thickness sheets are investigated by experiment and FEM simulation. And also the optimal location of weld line in laser-welded blank with different thickness sheets is calculated to compensate for the movement of weld line on deep drawing process. In addition, the effect of location of weld line is clarified using FEM simulation.

  • Generally, the forming process of suspension system parts have been considered only considered with the formability and have not been considered with the durability of suspension system. But the durability of suspension system is very important characteristic for the dynamic performance of vehicle. Therefore, the suspension system should be manufactured to consider the durability as well as the formability. This paper is about an optimum forming process design with the effect of section properties to consider the roll durability of torsion beam type suspension. In order to determine the tube hydroforming process for the satisfaction the roll durability, the stamping and hydroforming simulation by finite element method were performed. And the results from finite element analysis and roll durability examination showed the tube hydroforming process of torsion beam is optimized as satisfying the durability performance.

  • Tube hydroforming provides a number of advantages over conventional stamping process, including fewer secondary operation, weight reduction, assembly simplification, adaptability to forming of complex structural components and improved structural strength and stiffness. It can produce wide range of products such as subframe, engine cradle, and exhaust manifold. In this study, the effect of the heat treatment conditions such as post seam annealing (PSA) and bright annealing (BA) on the ovality and hydro-formability of steel tubes has been investigated. Hydroformabilities have been estimated by the bulging heights obtained at various processing parameters such as internal pressure, axial feeding and heat treatment conditions. The ovality and forming height are strongly influenced by material properties after heat treatments.

Improvement of the Stamping Formability by BHF Control (블랭크 홀딩력 제어에 의한 스탬핑 가공성 향상 기술)

  • A variable blank holding force method is proposed to improve deep drawing characteristics of sheet materials. In this method, the blank holding force (BHF) is controlled throughout a drawing process so that the punch load does not exceed a critical value, which is slightly less than the conventional process with the conforming process with the variable BHF is more flexible than the conventional process with the constant BHF and it could be used for improving the product's quality and drawability. In this paper we suggest a method controlling the BHF as a function of punch travel during the forming process. The optimization BHF curves are determined theoretically and experimentally. It is concluded that for the case of optimum BHF control methods the drawn cup height and the drawing formability achieved by this method are increased than those for constant BHF method. Also, as comparing the wall thickness distribution of the cup drawn by the constant BHF and the optimum BHF control, the BHF control reduce the wall thickness variation of the drawn cup at the cup wall and make the cup thickness distribution more uniformly than the constant BHF.

  • 판재의 스탬핑 성형성평가를 위해 소재제조업체와 자동차업체에서 널리 사용되고 있는 2,3개의 대표적인 모사실험과 컴퓨터 모드의 실험에 대하여 소개하였고 각각의 특징들에 대하여 논하 였다. 스탬핑금형의 개발과 연속생산공정에 있어서 성형한계선은 원형그리드해석기법과 함께 핀재의 성형난이도 평가 및 불량원인 규명과 조치에 유용하게 사용가능하다. 또한 돔장출실험과 평면변형장출실험에서 각각 얻어지는 한계돔높이와 한계펀치높이는 입하코일에 대한 스탬핑성 공여부의 사전확인 및 연속생산 공정에 대한 통계적 품질관리수단으로 활용하면 스탬핑공정에 서의 불량률감소 및 생산성향상에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다.

  • Viscoplastic deformation and sheet forming behavior of multicomponent Zr-based bulk metallic glass alloy has been investigated. From a series of mechanical test results, basic processing maps based on Dynamic Materials Model have been constructed to establish feasible forming conditions. Stamping in laboratory scale was then performed at the various stroke speeds and temperatures using a hydraulic press. Failure in macroscopic level was examined to check the validity of constructed processing maps.
