구형 LNG운반선의 탱크지지 구조인 스커트의 좌굴강도에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Buckling Strength of the Skirt Structure in the Spherical LNG Carriers)

  • This paper deals with the buckling strength of the skirt structure in the spherical LNG carriers. The spherical cargo tank systems consist of spherical tank, skirt, tank cover, pump tower, etc. The skirt supports the spherical cargo tank and is connected with ship hull structure. It is designed to act as a thermal brake between the tank and the hull structure by reducing the thermal conduction from the tank to the supporting structure. It is built up of three parts, upper aluminum part, middle stainless steel part and lower carbon steel part. The 150K spherical LNG carrier was designed and carried out the strength verification under Classification Societies Rule. The design loads due to acceleration, thermal distribution, self-weight and cargo weight were estimated considering requirements of the Class Rule and numerical simulation analyses. Based on the obtained design loads and experienced project data, the initial structure scantling was carried out. To verify the structural integrity, theoretical and numerical analyses were carried out and strength was evaluated aspect of buckling capacity. The results by LR and DNV design code are shown and discussed.

  • SpaceX사는 Falcon 9으로 발사체 비용을 혁신적으로 낮추었으며 로켓의 1단 재사용을 실용화하였다. 현재는 완전 재사용이 가능하고 탑재량이 가장 큰 Starship 시스템을 개발 중이며 이로 인해 더욱 저렴한 비용의 발사와 임무의 다양화가 가능하다. 이를 위해 최초로 메탄 연료를 사용하는 전유동 다단 연소 싸이클을 사용하는 Raptor 엔진을 완성하였다. 그리고 완전 재사용을 위해 스테인리스강 탱크, 하강 중 배면낙하 및 역추진과 같은 거의 사용되지 않는 기술들을 함께 적용하여 다수의 시제기를 제작 및 시험하고 있다. 여기서는 Starship 시스템의 제원, 임무, 설계 특징에 대해 알아보았다. 또한 Raptor 엔진과 매우 빠르게 제작된 초기 13 기의 Starship 시제기 개발 과정에 대해서도 알아보았다.

LNG탱크 겹침용접부의 피로강도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fatigue Strength of Lap Weld of LNG Tank)

  • At the design of Mark III membrane type LNG tank, an analytical and experimental approach on the fatigue strengths of membrane and its welds are very important in order to assist designers and surveyors. In this study, fatigue tests of lap weld of Mark III membrane type LNG tank were carried out and cumulative damage factor was calculated in order to estimate the fatigue life by probability density function and rule methods. It contained the following tests and reviews : 1) The fatigue tests of lap weld of stainless steel according to statistical testing method recommended by JSME, 2)Preparation of S-N curve for lap welds considering the statistical properties of the results of fatigue tests. 3) Procedure for estimating the initiation life of fatigue crack of lap welds under variable loads by the rule lf classification society and probability density function, 4) Guideline for inspection of lap welds fo membrane type LNG tank.

선박 및 해양구조물용 극저온 재료의 기계적 거동 특성 (A Comparative Study on Mechanical Behavior of Low Temperature Application Materials for Ships and Offshore Structures)

  • Austenite stainless steel(ASS), aluminum alloy and nickel steel alloy are the most widely used in many cryogenic applications due to superior mechanical properties at low temperature. The Face-Centered Cubic(FCC) and Hexagonal Close-Packed(HCP) materials are used for the primary and secondary insulation barrier of Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) carrier tank and various kinds of LNG applications currently. In this study, tensile tests of ASS, aluminum alloy and nickel steel alloy were carried out for the acquisition of quantitative mechanical properties under the cryogenic environment. The range of thermal condition was room temperature to $-163^{\circ}C$ and strain rate range was 0.00016/s to 0.01/s considering the dependencies of temperatures and strain rates. The comprehensive test data were analyzed in terms of the characteristics of mechanical behavior for the development of constitutive equation and its application.

  • Membrane panels for LNG(Liquid Natural Gas) tank are formed to corrugared ones by press forming. The environment of LNG tank is so severe that the service temperature is -162$^{\circ}C$ and the room temperature is 20$^{\circ}C$. The thermal deformation derived by the severe temperature change is absorbed by the corrugations of the membrane panels. In this paper the formability of stainless steel membrane panel is examined by the finite element analysis. Two corrugated shapes are suggested, and analyzed to obtain a sound absorption performance of the thermal distortion. Also the design considers forming characteristics and economy of production.

  • LNG demand has been rapidly increasing in Korea for a variety of reasons including stable supply, non-polluting, and high combustion efficiency characteristics. As a result the construction and expansion of LNG storage facilities have been continuing at a vigorous pace. Korea Gas Corp. (KOGAS) has developed the design technology of the LNG storage tank. One of the most important structural core element of the LNG storage tank is the membrane, made by stainless steel. The membrane to be applied inside of LNG storage tank is provided with corrugations to absorb thermal contraction and expansion caused by LNG temperature. Analytical results have been performed to investigate the strength of the membrane and the reaction farce at the anchor point. Experimental studies are performed to investigate the deformation and strength of the membrane which is designed by Kogas. All experiments are conducted on the basis of RPIS, and we found the results are fully satisfied with the RPIS.

5,000톤급 스테인리스 사각형 물탱크 구조의 설계 개선을 위한 구조해석 (Structural Analysis for Design Improvement of Stainless 5,000ton Rectangular Water Tank Structures)

  • The finite element analysis of large sized rectangular water tank structures made of stainless steel materials is carried out for various combined load cases. The combined load cases for a large size of 5,000ton are further determined using the specification(KS B 6283) established from the Korean Standards Association. For the better numerical efficiency, the rectangular panels are modelled using the ANSYS program. The numerical results obtained for different load cases show as follows. In order to resist the snow load, it takes the influence of the gap than the size of the column. Also, in order to resist the water pressure, it shall increase the thickness of the wall. But, increasing the thickness of the wall is considerably less economical. Therefore, the angle with big thickness should be placed right next to the wall.

부식과 악취가스 대기확산 방지를 위한 액비저장조 밀폐형 지붕모델 개발 (Development of a Closed Roof Model for Liquid Manure Storage Tanks to Prevent Corrosion and Atmospheric Diffusion of Oder Gases)

  • 악취가스의 대기확산을 방지하고, 액비의 발효를 위한 폭기장치의 가동을 정상화하여 액비저장조의 활용도를 높이고, 내식성 자재를 사용하여 구조적 안전성을 개선하기 위한 목적으로 액비저장조 밀폐형 지붕구조 모델을 개발하였으며, 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 액비저장조 및 지붕구조의 이용실태 조사결과, 악취가스의 발생으로 인한 민원 때문에 폭기장치 가동을 중단하고 있거나 특정시기에 한해 가동하는 농가가 대부분이었으며, 일반구조용 아연도금강관을 사용한 지붕 구조재의 부식이 다른 시설보다 빠르게 진행되고 있음을 확인하였다. 2. 구조자재의 강도시험 결과, 5년 동안 사용한 밀폐형 지붕 구조재의 경우 초기 강도의 34%까지 강도가 감소되는 등 부식에 의한 구조물의 강도저하가 심각하였으며, 내식성자재로 선발된 스테인리스(STS439)강의 경우 일반구조용강에 비해 1.4배 높은 강도를 나타내었다. 3. 직경 9.5m인 원형 액비저장조에 대하여 기존의 자재를 사용한 지붕모델과 내식성 자재를 사용한 지붕모델에 대하여 적설에 대한 구조안전성 분석 결과, 기존 자재를 사용한 경우에 비해 동일한 단면크기를 갖는 내식성 자재를 사용한 경우 적설에 대한 안전성이 약 2.3배까지 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 이상과 같이 본 연구에서 개발된 액비저장조 지붕모델은 밀폐형이므로 폭기시 발생하는 악취가스가 대기중으로 확산되지 않으며, 그 골조를 내식성이 우수한 스테인리스강, 아연용융도금강, FRP수지피복강을 사용하여 내구년한을 증가시킴으로써 구조적 안정성이 크게 향상되었다. 단, 금속재료의 부식에 대한 문제는 좀 더 장기간의 관찰과 실험을 통해 액비저장조 및 축산시설 고유의 부식속도를 구명하는 연구가 필요한 것으로 판단된다.

  • The Chemical Controls Act strictly regulates for the chemical companies to establish sufficient space between the liquid chemical tank and dike, but facilities already installed suffer from the space shortage between the tank and dike. Installing leakage preventing plates on the dike is considered as one of the economic solutions that can alleviate the space deficiency. However, there is no technical and reasonable criterion for the safety evaluation of the leakage preventing plate on the dike. In order to address this problem, we provide generalized and verified calculating equations that give maximum height and horizontal distance of leakage trajectories. Through the proposed equations, proper heights of the leakage preventing plates on the dike can be easily determined. In this study, new calculating methods are also developed to determine the impact force of the liquid to the leakage preventing plates. In addition, we performed the reactivity experiments between four corrosive liquid chemicals and two stainless steel materials that are candidate substances for the construction of the leakage preventing plate. The results of this study is expected to be applicable as a guideline in the design of safe dike and its leakage preventing plates.

Kogas 멤브레인 성능평가에 관한 연구 (The Study of Kogas Membrane Performance Test for LNG Storage Tank)

  • LNG는 여러 가지 장점으로 해마다 수요가 크게 늘고 있으며 이에 따른 LNG 저장설비의 건설과 확장 또한 급속도로 증가하고 있다. LNG 저장탱크에서 가장 중요한 요소중의 하나는 스테인레스 조재로 제작된 멤브레인이다. 멤브레인은 LNG 온도에 따른 열수축과 팽창을 흡수하는 주름을 가지고 있는 스테인레스 판으로 안정적 변형과 충분한 파괴강도를 확보하여야 한다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 개발된 Kogas 멤브레인의 변형과 강도를 실험적으로 수행되었고 모든 결과들이 관련 규격을 만족하는 것으로 나타났다.
