  • Grounding system insures a reference potential point for electric devices and also provides a low impedance path for fault currents or transient currents in the earth. The ground impedance as function of frequency is necessary for determining its performance since fault currents could contain a wide range of frequencies. In this paper, the grounding resistance, grounding impedance and transient grounding impedance are measured by using 3-point fall-of-potential method in order to analyse grounding characteristics of the stainless-steel plate grounding electrode. An equivalent transfer function model of the grounding impedance and transient grounding impedance are identified from the measured values by using ARMA method and evaluated by comparing conventional grounding impedances.

  • The corrosion behavior of duplex stainless steel AISI 2205 was investigated in ethylene glycol-water mixture in the presence of 50 W/V % LiBr at different concentrations and different temperatures. Cyclic polarization, impedance measurements and Mott-Schottky analysis were used to study the corrosion behavior the semi conductive properties of the passive films. The results showed that with increasing in the ethylene glycol concentration to 10 V/V%, the corrosion rate of the steel alloy substrate increased. In higher concentrations of ethylene glycol, corrosion current of steel decreased. The results of scanning electron microscopy of electrode surface confirmed the electrochemical tests. Electrochemical experiment showed that duplex steel was stable for pitting corrosion in this environment. The increase in the ethylene glycol concentration led to increasing the susceptibility to pitting corrosion. The corrosion current increased as the temperature rise and also pitting potentials and repassivation potentials shifted towards the less positive values as the temperature increased. According to Mott-Schottky analysis, passive films of stainless steel at the different temperatures showed both n-type and p-type semiconductor behavior in different potential.

  • For the industrial application of electropolishing process, we investigated electropolishing characteristics of stainless steel through increasing the specimen size or electrode gap. In this study, we performed a set of experiment with the specimen size of $10cm{\times}10cm$ and the electrode gap of 1 cm or more. In the view of the electropolishing process, the electrolyte temperature and the polishing time were most important factors compared with the current density and the electrode gap. Especially, the electrolyte temperature most importantly affected surface roughness and current efficiency on electropolishing characteristics. For the industrial application of electropolishing process, it should be considered for important factors such as electrolyte temperature, polishing time, current density and electrode gap, etc.

  • In this study, the cobalt sulfide (CoS) nanosheet on stainless steel as a supercapacitor electrode is synthesized by using a facile successive ionic layer adsorption reaction (SILAR) method. The number of cycles for dipping and rinsing can control the nanosheet thickness of CoS on stainless steel. Field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) showed a layer structure of CoS particles coupled as agglomeration. And x-ray diffraction (XRD) showed the crystallinity of the CoS nanosheet. To investigate the characteristics of the CoS nanosheet electrode as the supercapacitor, analysis of electrochemical measurement was conducted. Finally, the CoS nanosheet of 70cycles on stainless steel shows the specific capacitance ($44.25mF/cm^2$ at $0.25mA/cm^2$) with electrochemical stability of 78.5% over during 2000cycles.

  • Stainless steel, which includes Ni and Cr with Fe balance, is most often applied for a wide range of applications such as structure and equipment material. It is not only suitable for use in these applications due to its good corrosion resistance, but also can be applied to catalyst, supporting material, and current collector due to intrinsic properties of Ni and Fe contained in stainless steel. Therefore, in recent years, a lots of surface treatment methods have been studied to activate stainless steel, developing application of water splitting system. In this review paper, the research on the surface treatment technology of stainless steel for water splitting is summarized. It is expected to be able to propose the diverse surface treatment approaches of stainless steel for application to low-cost and highly efficient water splitting electrode.

  • Electrodes are an important part of electrocardiography (ECG); disposable electrodes have been extensively used. However, personal ECG monitoring devices for Internet of Things applications require reusable electrodes. As there have been no systematic studies on the characteristics of reusable electrodes to date, we conducted this study to assess the performance and feasibility of electrodes with different materials. We built reusable electrodes using twelve different metallic materials, including commonly used copper, silver, zinc, plating materials, chemically inert titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum. Each electrode was fabricated to a size of $5{\times}10mm$. Their characteristics such as offset, baseline drift, stabilization time, and chemical inertness were compared. A personal ECG monitoring system was used to test the manufactured electrodes. The performances of the Ag, Cu, and Zn electrodes were better than the performances of other electrodes. However, these materials may not be used owing to the chemical changes that occur when the electrodes are in contact with the skin, such as discoloration and corrosion, which deteriorate their electrical characteristics. Titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum are chemically stable. The titanium electrode showed the best performance among the three, and it is our recommendation as a material for manufacturing reusable electrodes.

  • By the localization of electro-chemical dissolution region, we succeeded in a few micrometer size hole drilling on stainless steel with the radial machining gap of about 1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Tens of nanosecond duration voltage pulses were applied between WC micro-shaft and stainless steel in the 0.1 M $H_2SO_4$ solution. Pt balance electrode was used to drill the high aspect ratio micro-hole without generation of Cr oxide layer on the machined surface. The effects of applied voltage, pulse duration, and pulse period on localization distance were investigated according to machining time. We suggested the taper reduction technique especially brought up on blind-hole machining. High quality micro-holes with 8 ${\mu}m$ diameter with 20 ${\mu}m$ depth and 12 ${\mu}m$ diameter with 100 ${\mu}m$ depth were drilled on 304 stainless steel foil. The various hole shapes were also produced including stepped holes and taper free holes.

  • The manganese was extracted from ferromanganese slag with 6N ammonium sulfate and purified with ammonium sulfide. The current efficiencies were substantially increased when small amounts of selenious acid is used as an additive. Stainless steel was used as cathodic electrode and lead (+1% Ag) as anodic electrode. The effects of several variables were investigated, and the optimum conditions were found to be; 40g/l Mn in electrolyte at pH 7.0 with 1$20g/l (NH_4)_2SO_4$, Cathode current density 60mA/cm$^2$, Current efficiency 90% and up at the temperature about $25^{\circ}C.$ The metal produced has been consistantly of high quality.
