This paper presents the development of a fuzzy controller for driving camera pan/tilt device so that the camera's viewing direction can automatically track a moving object. To achieve computational efficiency a non-contact type displacement follower is used as a feedback sensor instead of a vision camera. The displacement follower, however, is extremely sensitive to object's lighting condition and results in unstable response at high speed. To this end, a fuzzy controller is developed in such a way to provide stable tracking performance at high speed where the sensory signal is subjected to intermittant disturbances of large magnitude. The test result shows stable tracking response even for high speed and non-uniform lighting condition. The resulting camera autotracking system can be adopted as an effective tool for visual transfer in the context of teleoperation and autonomous robotics.
In a four-wheel independent drive platform, four wheels and motors are connected directly, and the rotation of the motors generates the power of the platform. It uses a skid steering system that steers based on the difference in rotational power between wheel motors. The platform can control the speed of each wheel individually and has excellent mobility on dirt roads. However, the difficulty of the straight-running is caused due to torque distribution variation in each wheel's motor, and the direction of rotation of the wheel, and moving direction of the platform, and the difference of the platform's target direction. This paper describes an algorithm to detect the slip generated on each wheel when a four-wheel independent drive platform is traveling in a harsh environment. When the slip is detected, a compensation control algorithm is activated to compensate the torque of the motor mounted on the platform to improve the trajectory tracking performance of the platform. The four-wheel independent drive platform developed for this study verified the algorithm. The wheel slip detection and the compensation control algorithm of the platform are expected to improve the stability of trajectory tracking.

Self-driving vehicles are a type of smart vehicle with the help of ICT technology, which means a vehicle that operates without the intervention of a driver.Vehicles with vehicle safety communication technology (V2X) applied use information detected from various sensors or other vehicles/infrastructures to enable the smart vehicle to accurately and quickly predict the driver's potential danger situation, contributing to more stable autonomous driving. In this paper, among V2X communication technologies, a vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V) simulation communication technology is used to present a scenario for preventing collisions in autonomous vehicles. A vehicle collision prevention system based on V2V simulated communication was implemented and the suggested collision prevention application scenario was demonstrated. The suggested collision prevention utilization scenario can be considered as one application case of V2V communication technologies that are currently being developed/applied.

This paper presents a novel driving system by the humanoid robot to drive a vehicle in disaster response situations. To enhance robot's capability for substituting human activities in responding to natural and man-made disaster, the one of prerequisite skills for the rescue robot is the mounted mobility to maneuver a vehicle safely in disaster site. Therefore, our driving system for the humanoid is developed in order to steer a vehicle through unknown obstacles even under poor communication conditions such as time-delay and black-out. Especially, the proposed system includes a tele-manipulation interface and stable navigation strategies. First, we propose a new type of path estimation method to overcome limited communication. Second, we establish navigation strategies when the operator cannot recognize obstacles based on Dynamic Window Approach. The effectiveness of the proposed developments is verified through simulation and experiments, which demonstrate suitable system for driving a vehicle in disaster response.
The need for precise location data is growing across numerous markets, and so is the number of affordable high-precision GPS receivers. In this paper, we validated the performance of RTAP2U, a low-cost high-precision RTK receiver that was recently released. Two positioning modes were tested: static and driving. The static test conducted Zero-Baseline Single-RTK and Network-RTK survey for 57 hours and 51 hours, respectively. For the driving test, Network-RTK survey was conducted using VRS services provided by NGII based on Trimble PIVOT and Geo++ GNSMART. The static test showed about 1 cm horizontal and vertical accuracies, which is very stable considering the test duration longer than 50 hours. The integer ambiguity FIX rate marked a solid 100%. The driving test result also reached a 100% FIX rate. Horizontal and vertical accuracies were better than 2 cm and 3 cm, respectively. Researchers can refer to this paper when considering affordable high-precision GPS receivers as an option.

This study was undertaken to strategize the mixed traffic operation of autonomous vehicles in the pilot zone. This was achieved by analyzing the changes expected when autonomous vehicles are mixed in the autonomous vehicle pilot zone. Although finding a safe and efficient traffic operation strategy is required for the pilot zone to serve as a test bed for autonomous vehicles, there is no available operation strategy based on the mixture of autonomous vehicles. In order to presents a traffic operation strategies for each period of autonomous vehicle introduction, traffic efficiency and safety analysis was performed according to the autonomous vehicle market percentage rate. Based on the analysis results, the introduction stage was divided into introductory stage, transition period, and stable period based on the autonomous vehicle market share of 30% and 70%. This study presents the following traffic operation strategies. Considering the traffic flow operation strategy, we suggest the advancement of the existing road infrastructure at the introductory stage, and operating an autonomous driving lane and the mileage system during the transition period. We also propose expanding the operation of autonomous driving lanes and easing the speed limit during the stable period. In the traffic safety strategy, we present a manual and legal system for responding to autonomous vehicle accidents in the introductory stage, an analysis of the causes of autonomous vehicle accidents and the implementation of preventive policies in the transition period, and the advancement of the autonomous system and the reinforcement of the security system during the stable period. Through the traffic operation strategy presented in this study, we foresee the possibility of preemptively responding to the changes of traffic flow and traffic safety expected due to the mixture of autonomous vehicles in the autonomous vehicle pilot zone in the future.

In this paper, we propose a new obstacle negotiation method for the rescue robot. The rescue robot has a variable geometry single-tracked mechanism, so it can maximize a contact length with ground for the adaptability to off-road and pursue a stable system due to the lower center of gravity. In this research, we add the basis of autonomous navigation, driving mode control based on obstacle detection, to the robot to realize automation of mode transformation. Obstacle detection using PSD(Position Sensitive Device) infrared sensors gives active transformation of the track shape. Finally, experimental results about mentioned are presented.

Recently, robots have been actively utilized for logistics and delivery services in various places such as restaurants, hotels, and hospitals. In addition, it provides a safer environment, convenience, and cost efficiency to the customers. However, when it comes to autonomous delivery in a multi-floor environment, the task is still challenging. Especially for wheeled mobile robots, it is necessary to deal with elevators to perform the last-mile delivery services. Therefore, we present a multi-floor route planning algorithm that enables a wheeled mobile robot to traverse an elevator for the delivery service. In addition, an elevator boarding mission algorithm was developed to perceive the drivable region within the elevator and generate a feasible path that is collision-free. The algorithm was tested with real-world experiments and was demonstrated to perform autonomous postal delivery service in a multi-floor building. We concluded that our study could contribute to building a stable autonomous driving robot system for a multi-floor environment.
The autonomous vehicles are being developed and operated widely because of the advantages of reducing the traffic accident and saving time and cost for driving. The vehicle localization is an essential component for autonomous vehicle operation. In this paper, localization algorithm based on sensor fusion is developed for cost-effective localization using in-vehicle sensors, GNSS, an image sensor and reference images that made in advance. Information of the reference images can overcome the limitation of the low positioning accuracy that occurs when only the sensor information is used. And it also can acquire estimated result of stable position even if the car is located in the satellite signal blockage area. The particle filter is used for sensor fusion that can reflect various probability density distributions of individual sensors. For evaluating the performance of the algorithm, a data acquisition system was built and the driving data and the reference image data were acquired. Finally, we can verify that the vehicle positioning can be performed with an accuracy of about 0.7 m when the route image and the reference image information are integrated with the route path having a relatively large error by the satellite sensor.
