Fuzzy Color Classifier 와 Convex-hull을 사용한 얼굴 검출 (Face detection using fuzzy color classifier and convex-hull)

  • 본 논문에서는 복잡한 배경에서의 얼굴 추출 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 적응 퍼지 색 분할기법을 사용하여 얼굴색과 머리색을 분할시킨다. 얼굴색 분포는 Y,Cb,Cr 색 공간내에서 유도되어지고, 조명값에 적응적인 퍼지 시스템을 사용하여 얼굴색을 구분해낸다. 머리색은 RGB 색 공간내에서 구분되어진다. 전처리 과정을 거쳐 추출되어진 얼굴색과 머리색 영역에 컨벡스 헐을 적용하여 그들의 관계를 통해 최종적인 얼굴 영역이 추출되어진다. 제안된 방법은 기존의 패턴 매칭 방법에 비해 효율적인 성능을 나타낸다. 제안된 알고리즘의 유효성을 실험을 통해 증명하며, 색 영역에서의 제한 조건 없이 성공적으로 얼굴 영역을 추출해 냄을 알 수 있다.

  • 본 논문은 전 방향을 감시할 수 있는 Pan-Tilt-Zoom(PTZ) 카메라를 이용한 파노라마 배경 생성과 객체 추적 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 연속되는 두 영상의 외곽 영역에서 미리 정한 지역만 위상정합(phase correlation)을 하여 카메라의 지역 움직임을 빠르게 추정하고 벡터 양자화를 통하여 움직임 추정 오차를 최소화 한다. 추정된 움직임 값을 이용하여 겹침 영역이 존재하는 영상들을 획득하여 실린더에 투영시키고 영상을 재 정렬함으로써 파노라마 배경 영상을 생성할 수 있다. 객체 추적은 미리 생성된 파노라마 배경과 입력 영상의 차분 방법을 이용하여 배경과 객체를 분리하고 객체의 움직임을 추적한다. 제안된 객체 추적 방법은 PTZ 카메라를 이용하여 빠르고 안정적인 배경 생성이 가능하고, 전방향의 객체를 지속적으로 추적하는 것이 가능하다. 제안된 방법은 실시간 처리가 가능하며 넓은 감시 지역에서 객체의 형태를 추적하거나 얼굴인식과 같은 분야에서 이용될 수 있을 것이다.

Mitoxantrone Binds to Nopp140, an Intrinsically Unstructured Protein, and Modulate its Interaction with Protein Kinase CK2

  • Nopp140 is a highly phosphorylated protein that resides in the nucleolus of mammalian cell and is involved in the biogenesis of the nucleolus. It interacts with a variety of proteins related to the synthesis and assembly of the ribosome. It also can bind to a ubiquitous protein kinase CK2 that mediates cell growth and prevents apoptosis. We found that Nopp140 is an intrinsically unfolded protein (IUP) lacking stable secondary structures over its entire sequence of 709 residues. We discovered that mitoxantrone, an anticancer agent, was able to enhance the interaction between Nopp140 and CK2 and maintain suppressed activity of CK2. Surface plasma resonance studies on different domains of Nopp140 show that the C-terminal region of Nopp140 is responsible for binding with mitoxantrone. Our results present an interesting example where a small chemical compound binds to an intrinsically unfolded protein (IUP) and enhances protein-protein interactions.

Induction of Two Mammalian PER Proteins is Insufficient to Cause Phase Shifting of the Peripheral Circadian Clock

  • Most living organisms exhibit the circadian rhythm in their physiology and behavior. Recent identification of several clock genes in mammals has led to the molecular understanding of how these components generate and maintain the circadian rhythm. Many reports have implicated the photic induction of either mPer1 or mPer2 in the hypothalamic region called the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) to phase shift the brain clock. It is now established that peripheral tissues other than the brain also express these clock genes and that the clock machinery in these tissues work in a similar way to the SCN clock. To determine the role of the two canonical clock genes, mPer1 and mPer2, in the peripheral clock shift, stable HEK293EcR cell lines that can be induced and stably express these proteins were prepared. By regulating the expression of these proteins, it could be shown that induction of the clock genes, either mPer1 or mPer2 alone is not sufficient to cause clock phase shifting in these cells. Our real-time PCR analysis on these cells indicates that the induction of mPER proteins dampens the expression of the clock-specific transcription factor mBmal1. Altogether, our present data suggest that mPer1 and mPer2 may not function in clock shift or take part in differential roles on the peripheral circadian clock.

상보형 전기변색소자용 $V_2O_5$박막의 대향전극 특성 (Characterization of $V_2O_5$ thin films as a counter electrode for complementary electrochromic devices)

  • We have systematically investigated the characterization of V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films as a counter electrode for lithium based complementary electrochromic devices. The V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films were prepared by thermal vacuum evaporation with varing the substrate temperature and film thickness. In electrochromic devices for smart windows, the WO$_{3}$ thin films with 400-800 nm thickness require to be capable of reversibly injection 10-15 mC/cm$^{2}$ of lithium, which is readily accomplished charge-balanced switching in a V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films with 100-150nm thick. The V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films produces considerably small changes in optical modulation properties in the visible and near infrared region(500-1100 nm) compared to the amorphous WO$_{3}$ thin films on 10-15 mC/cm$^{2}$ of lithium injection and the V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films can therefore act as a counter electrode to WO$_{3}$ in a lithium based complementary clectrochromic devices. After 10$^{5}$ coloration/bleaching switching time, the degradation does not occurs and the devices exhibit a stable optical modulation in V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films. It has shown that the injected lithium ion amounts in crystalline V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ thin films with the same thickness is large by 3-5 mC/cm$^{2}$ of lithium compared to the amorphous thin films in the same driving conditions. Therefore, to optimize the device performance, it is necessary to choose an appropriate film thickness and crystallinity of V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ for amorphous WO$_{3}$ film thickness as a working electrode.

Spinel Pigment의 생성반응에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Formation of Spinel Pigment(Green Pigment based on Magnesium-Chrome))

  • This study was conducted to research the formation, color development and application for colored glazes of the spinel solid solutions of the green pigment. On specimens prepared by calcining the oxide and basic carbonate mixture at 1250℃ for 1.5 hour, the x-ray analysis, measurement of reflectance and the test of their stabiality as a glaze pigment were carried out. The results are summarized as follows 1) Each sample is composed of single spinel and not of mixture of spinel. 2) Formation of continuous soild solution, except for a few instances, pertaining to Vegard's law was confirmed by means of the x-ray analysis. 3) The more difference between absorption and reflectance lies, the lighter colors are. When the absorption occurs at the high-reflectance, the excitation purity becomes low. On the contrary when the absorption takes place at the low-reflectance, the excitation purity becomes low. On the contrary when the absorption takes place at the low-reflectance, the excitation purity is higher. 4) Colors obtained in the CdO-MgO-Cr2O3-Al2O3 system, as the amounts of Al3+ increased, change from green through brown to pink, and the absorption peak shifts towards violet region. 5) An increase in Co2+ in the CoO-MgO-Cr2O3-Al2O3 system, changes the color from blue green to dark blue. The excitation purity is higher, and the absorption peak shifts toward regions. 6) Colors are green in the NiO-MgO-Cr2O3 and CdO-MgO-Cr2O3 systems in general, but in the ZnO-MgO-Cr2O3 system brillant hue is not obtained. 70 According to the results of the colored glaze test, the spinels turn outto be stable as brilliant glaze pigment in the calcium-magnesia glaze.

A Trial Toward Marine Watch System by Image Processing

  • This paper describes a marine watch system on a ship, which is aided by an image processing method. The system detects other ships through a navigational image sequence to prevent oversights, and it measures their bearings to maintain their movements. The proposed method is described, the detection techniques and measurement of bearings techniques are derived, and the results have been reported. The image is divided into small regions on the basis of the brightness value and then labeled. Each region is considered as a template. A template is assumed to be a ship. Then, the template is compared with frames in the original image after a selected time. A moving vector of the regions is calculated using an Excel table. Ships are detected using the characteristics of the moving vector. The video camera captures 30 frames per second. We segmented one frame into approximately 5000 regions; from these, approximately 100 regions are presumed to be ships and considered to be templates. Each template was compared with frames captured at 0.33 s or 0.66 s. In order to improve the accuracy, this interval was changed on the basis of the magnification of the video camera. Ships’ bearings also need to be determined. The proposed method can measure the ships’ bearings on the basis of three parameters: (1) the course of the own ship, (2) arrangement between the camera and hull, and (3) coordinates of the ships detected from the image. The course of the own ship can be obtained by using a gyrocompass. The camera axis is calibrated along a particular direction using a stable position on a bridge. The field of view of the video camera is measured from the size of a known structure on the hull in the image. Thus, ships’ bearings can be calculated using these parameters.

  • 온도에 따른 Pourbaix Diagram 을 열역학 계산에 의해 구성하여 수용액 상 은의 회수반응에 미치는 온도의 영향을 파악하였다. 온도의 상승에 따라 물의 안정성은 pH 변화에 대해 더 크게 영향을 받으며 ${Ag^+}_{(aq)}$의 안정영역은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 온도가 하강함에 따라 $Ag_{(aq)}$$Ag_{(s)}$$Ag_2O_{3(s)}$ 형태로 회수하고 온도 상승 시에는 $Ag_{(aq)}$$Ag_2O_{(s)}$$Ag_2O_{2(s)}$의 형태로 회수하는 것이 화학반응상 보다 유리할 것으로 고찰되었다. $pH{\leq}2$ 이하의 강산성 영역에서는 온도 상승에 따른 은 회수 효율성이 감소하고 pH가 2 이상인 조건에서는 온도 증가에 따라 은의 회수 효율성이 증대될 것으로 파악되었다. 또한, 은을 원소 상태로 회수하는 방안은 산화은 형태로 회수하는 방안에 비해 온도변화에 대해 더욱 민감하게 영향을 받는 것으로 고려되었다.

Genetic and Biochemical Characterization of the Biphenyl Dioxygenase from Pseudomonas sp. Strain B4

  • Biphenyl dioxygenase (BPDO), which catalyzes the first step in the bacterial degradation of biphenyl and polychlorinated biphenyls, was characterized in Pseudomonas sp. B4. The bphA locus containing the four structural genes encoding BPDO were cloned and sequenced. A regulatory gene as well as a putative regulatory sequence were identified upstream of this locus. A transposase-like gene was found within a 1-kb region further upstream, thereby suggesting that the bphA locus may be carried on a transposable element. The three components of the BPDO enzyme have been separately overexpressed and purified from E. coli. The ferredoxin and terminal dioxygenase components showed biochemical properties comparable to those of two previously characterized BPDOs, whereas the ferredoxin reductase exhibited an unusually high lability. The substrate selectivity of BPDO was examined in vivo using resting cell assays performed with mixtures of selected polychlorinated biphenyls. The results indicated that para-substituted congeners were the preferred substrates. In vitro studies were carried out on a BPDO complex where the reductase from strain B4 we replaced by the more stable isoform from Comamonas testosteroni B-356. The BPDO enzyme had a specific activity of $0.26{\pm}0.02 {\mu}mol {min^-1}{mg^-1}\;of\;ISP_{BPH}$ with biphenyl as the substrate. The 2,3-, 4,4'-, and 2,4,4'-chlorobiphenyls were converted to single dihydrodiols, while 2,4'-dichlorobiphenyl gave rise to two dihydrodiols. The current data also indicated that 2,4,4'-trichlorobiphenyl was a better substrate than the 4,4'-dichlorinated congener.

최근 일본의 금 탐사동향 (Recent Gold Exploration in Japan)

  • 안정적인 천연자원의 공급을 통해 오랫동안 국가산업화에 이바지해온 일본의 광산산업은 산업구조의 개편에 따라 하향추세를 맞아 현재는 세 곳의 주요 광산만이 가행중이다. 최근 경제사정의 변화로 새로운 비금속광상의 개발이 어려워짐에 따라 매장량과 품위에 있어 경제적 가치를 갖는 천열수금광상으로 관심이 옮겨가고 있는 추세이다. 1970년대 후반의 급격한 금가격 상승은 환태평양 지역의 천열수금광상에 대한 지질학적 정보와 이해를 증가시키는 역할을 했으며, 특히 판구조론의 확립과 더불어 지열수계와 화석천열수계의 대비라는 가장 중요한 발전이 이루어졌다. 1988년에는 광산협회에서 천열수금광상의 개발을 목표로 일본내 19개 지역의 탐사를 인가했으며, 1989년부터는 준정부기관인 금속광업국에서 이 지역들의 금탐사를 수행해왔다. 광상성인에 관한 신개념과 새로운 탐사기술로 유망한 금광화대가 발견되어 왔으며 개발이 진척된 곳은 홋카이도 북부의 세타지역과 큐슈 중부의 노야지역이다.
