Statement of problem. Titanium is the most important material for biomedical and dental implants because of their high corrosion resistance and good biocompatibility. These beneficial properties are due to a protective passive oxide film that spontaneously forms on the surface. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the responses of osteoblast-like cells on different surface treatments on Ti discs. Material and Methods. Group 1 represented the machined surface with no treatment. Group 2 surfaces were sandblasted with $50{\mu}m\;Al_2O_3$ under $5kgf/cm^2$ of pressure. Groups 3 and 4 were sandblasted under the same conditions. The samples were treated on a titanium oxide surface with reactive sputter depositioning and thermal oxidation at $600^{\circ}C$ (Group 3) and $800^{\circ}C$ (Group 4) for one hour in an oxygen environment. The chemical composition and microtopography were analyzed by XRD, XPS, SEM and optical interferometer. The stability of $TiO_2$ layer was studied by petentiodynamic curve. To evaluate cell response, osteoblast extracted from femoral bone marrow of young adult rat were cultured for cell attachment, proliferation and morphology on each titanium discs. Results and Conclusion. The results were as follows : 1. Surface roughness values were, from the lowest to the highest, machined group, $800^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation group, $600^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation group and blasted group. The Ra value of blasted group was significantly higher than that of $800^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation group (P=0.003), which was not different from that of $600^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation group (P<0.05). 2. The degree of cell attachment was highest in the $600^{\circ}C$ thermal oxidation group after four and eight hours (P<0.05), but after 24 hours, there was no difference among the groups (P>0.05). 3. The level of cell proliferation showed no difference among the groups after one day, three days, and seven days (P>0.05). 4. The morphology and arrangement of the cells varied with surface roughness of the discs.
In this study, the optimization of active materials and the preparation of particulate adsorbents for the application of metal oxide-based adsorbents for the treatment of $H_2S$, an air pollutant and odorant, occurred in various industrial facilities were investigated. The adsorbents were prepared by using $TiO_2$, which has a high physicochemical stability and relatively high specific surface area among metal oxides and also by different kinds and contents of active materials. The correlation between the physicochemical property and adsorption performance of the adsorbents confirmed that the adsorbent containing KI, which is a typical alkali metal among the active metals, showed the highest adsorption performance. The relationship between the contents and the adsorption performance was non-proportional, but a volcano plot. From XRD, SEM and BET analyses, it was confirmed that the active material was exposed to the surface above a certain amount and also the adsorption performance was the best when the specific surface area and pore volume were $40{\sim}100m^2/g$ and $0.1{\sim}0.3cm^3/g$, respectively. For practical application, the adsorbent was granulated or coated on a ceramic support. It was also confirmed that the adsorbent showed high adsorption performance when the adsorbent was coated on the ceramic rather than that of the granulated support.
We evaluated mineralogical, physical property and accelerated weather resistance of cinnabar, realgar and orpiment used as cultural heritages and traditional paintings. JB and JS are sample names of cinnabar and JH and UH are sample names of orpiment and Realgar, respectively. As a result of mineralogical property evaluation, Jinsa was identified cinnabar (HgS) and there was no difference in chemical composition according to the grade. UH and JH were confirmed realgar (AsS) and orpiment (As2S3), respectively. The polarization characteristics such as shape and color indicate that pigments using our test were natural mineral pigment observed by polarization microscope. Especially, in the case of cinnabar, it is not easy to distinguish between natural mineral pigment and synthetic pigment. But the results of polarization microscope said that cinnabar is natural occurring mineral which have authentic mineral particle and unevenly fracture. As a result of thermal analysis, JH has a higher glass transition temperature and heat stability than UH. After accelerated weather test, cinnabar, realgar and orpiment were striking result in color change because of light degradation. Red color of cinnabar turn into black and the color of realgar and orpiment became brighter than before. JB (meta-cinnabar) is more photosensitivity and faster becoming dark than JB (cinnabar). Finally light transforms realgar (red, As4S4) in arsenolite (As2O3).
To investigate the promoter effect on heterologous gene expression in S. cerevisiae, the recombinant plasmids pYI11, pYI12, pYI10-2, and pYIGP were constructed to contain the inulinase gene (INUI) as a reporter under the control of GAL10, GAL7, GAL1, and GAP promoters, respectively. When the yeasts transformants were cultivated on galactose-containing rich media, the cell growth reached to 36-39 OD600 at 72 hours of cultivation. The specific growth rates of the cells harboring the four different plasmids decreased similarly : they dropped from $0.24 h^{-1}$ during the glucose-consuming period to 0.04 -$0.10 h^{-1}$ during the galactose-consuming period (gene expression phase for GAL promoter system). After the depletion of glucose, the expression of inulinase gene was started and reached to maximal levels of 4.3(GAL1 promoter), 4.0(GAL10 promoter), 3.8(GAL7 promoter), and 1.6(GAP promoter) unit/mL at 72 hours of cultivation. Based on the maximal expression level and activity staining on the plate, the promoter strength was in the order of GAL1, GAL10, GAL7 and GAP promoter. While the GAL-promoter systems showed a high plasmid stabilities of more than 78%, the GAP-promoter plasmid revealed a lower plasmid stability of 55%. Most of inulinase activity (98%) was found in the extracellular medium, indicating that the secretion efficiency of inulinase is independent on the type of promoter.

In nitride and oxide film deposition, sputtered metals react with nitrogen or oxygen gas in a vacuum chamber to form metal nitride or oxide films on a substrate. The physical properties of sputtered films (metals, oxides, and nitrides) are strongly influenced by magnetron plasma density during the deposition process. Typical target power densities on the magnetron during the deposition process are ~ (5-30) W/cm2, which gives a relatively low plasma density. The main challenge in reactive sputtering is the ability to generate a stable, arc free discharge at high plasma densities. Arcs occur due to formation of an insulating layer on the target surface caused by the re-deposition effect. One current method of generating an arc free discharge is to use the commercially available Pinnacle Plus+ Pulsed DC plasma generator manufactured by Advanced Energy Inc. This plasma generator uses a positive voltage pulse between negative pulses to attract electrons and discharge the target surface, thus preventing arc formation. However, this method can only generate low density plasma and therefore cannot allow full control of film properties. Also, after long runs ~ (1-3) hours, depends on duty cycle the stability of the reactive process is reduced due to increased probability of arc formation. Between 1995 and 1999, a new way of magnetron sputtering called HIPIMS (highly ionized pulse impulse magnetron sputtering) was developed. The main idea of this approach is to apply short ${\sim}(50-100){\mu}s$ high power pulses with a target power densities during the pulse between ~ (1-3) kW/cm2. These high power pulses generate high-density magnetron plasma that can significantly improve and control film properties. From the beginning, HIPIMS method has been applied to reactive sputtering processes for deposition of conductive and nonconductive films. However, commercially available HIPIMS plasma generators have not been able to create a stable, arc-free discharge in most reactive magnetron sputtering processes. HIPIMS plasma generators have been successfully used in reactive sputtering of nitrides for hard coating applications and for Al2O3 films. But until now there has been no HIPIMS data presented on reactive sputtering in cluster tools for semiconductors and MEMs applications. In this presentation, a new method of generating an arc free discharge for reactive HIPIMS using the new Cyprium plasma generator from Zpulser LLC will be introduced. Data (or evidence) will be presented showing that arc formation in reactive HIPIMS can be controlled without applying a positive voltage pulse between high power pulses. Arc-free reactive HIPIMS processes for sputtering AlN, TiO2, TiN and Si3N4 on the Applied Materials ENDURA 200 mm cluster tool will be presented. A direct comparison of the properties of films sputtered with the Advanced Energy Pinnacle Plus + plasma generator and the Zpulser Cyprium plasma generator will be presented.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate retrospectively the clinical results of closed reduction and percutaneous screw fixation for unstable injuries on stress radiographs in subtle injuries of Lisfranc joint. Materials and Methods: From June 1997 to March 2003, 6 cases of unstable injuries on stress radiograph in subtle injuries of Lisfranc joint were treated by percutaneous cannulated screw fixation after closed reduction. All cases were injuried by indirect force (twisting injury). The average diastasis between the 1st and 2nd metatarsal base was 3 mm (2-4 mm) on initial nonweight bearing AP radiograph. The average follow-up period was 20 months. Clinical evaluation was assessed according to the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) midfoot score. Results: The AOFAS midfoot score was average 86 (80-90) points. The average diastasis between 1st and 2nd metatarsal base was 2 mm (1-3 mm) on weight bearing AP radiograph in final follow up. The final diastasis was increased slightly than diastasis in initial postoperative radiographs. But the clinical results were good. There was no correlation between the degree of diastasis and the clinical results. On weight bearing lateral radiograph, the average difference with normal foot in the distance between plantar aspect of 5th metatarsus and medial cuneiform was 2 mm (0-3 mm). One case had mild arthritic change on the radiographs. Conclusion: When the Lisfranc injuries, especially in the subtle injuries were suspicious, the stress views are helpful to assess stability of the Lisfranc injuries and planning of treatment. For unstable injuries on stress radiographs in subtle injuries of Lisfranc joint, closed reduction and percutaneous screw fixation is useful method to expect good clinical results.
In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to apply the methods of classical chemical kinetics to the hydrolytic reaction of pipethanate hydrochloride. By successively keeping all but one variable essentially constant, it has been possible to resolve the overall effect of the individual contributing factors. Since nearly all commercial pipethanate preparations are formulated with antacid, studies were made at several constant hydrogen ion concentration ranging pH 0.4 to 7.5. Rate measurement was also carried out in temperature ranging from $25^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$. The hydrolysis of pipethanate is found to be of first order with respect to pipeethanate concentration over an experimental range of hydrogen ion concentration (pH 0407.5). The apparent activation energy(Ea) at pH 7.5 is 18.30 Kcal/mole and the frequency factor is $1.1408 {\times}10^{9}sec^{-1}$. The rate of the hydrolysis has a minimum at pH 2.5-3.5. In this region the half-life of pipethanate was about15.3 days at $60^{\circ}C$. The catalytic effect of water was found to be $K_{H_2O}$ = $3.16{\times}10^{-5}min^{-1}$ at $60^{\circ}C$. The catalytic constants of the hydroxyl ions and hydrogen ions at $60^{\circ}C$ were also found to be $K_{OH}$ = $4.5519{\times}10^{-5}min^{-1}$ and $K_{H}+$ = $1.1568{\times}10^{-2}min^{-1}$, respectively. This reaction appears to be primarily base catalyzed hydrolysis and pipethanate is relatively reluctant toward acid catalyzed hydrolysis. A positive primary salt effect was noted in the solution of phpethanate at pH 7.5 and at $60^{\circ}C$.
This paper describes development of Polarized Stereo Monitoring System (KAERI-PSM) and compares the remote handling performance of KAERI-PSM with that of other monitoring systems, electric shutter type stereo monitoring system and general TV monitoring system. Remote handling performance is evaluated by total time and error number on remote operating experiments. Four kinds of remote handling experiments are carried out through 1) directly 2) general TV 3) electric shutter type monitor, and 4) KAERI-PSM. In these experiments six employees are participated and PUMA robot with force-torque reflectional joystic is used. The result of experiments show that camera angle against object is significant factor in monitoring and stereo monitoring system give more performance benifits in terms of accuracy and speed of remote handling operation than general TV monitoring system. In comparision of the polarized and electric shutter type stereo monitoring system, both have similar accuracy and speed for remote handling operation, but the former is superior in image quality and stability of the performance.
Lipase (triacylglycerol lipase, EC 3.1.1.3) is an enzyme capable of hydrolyzing triacylglycerol, to produce fatty acids and glycerol and reverse the reaction of triacylglycerol synthesis from fatty acids and glycerol through transesterification. Applications of lipase are quite widespread in the industrial sector, including in the detergent, paper, dairy, and food industries, as well as for biodiesel synthesis. Lipases by yeasts have attracted industrial attention because of their fast production times and high stability. In a previous study, a lipase-producing yeast isolate was identified as Zygosaccharomyces mellis SG1.2 and had a productivity of 24.56 U/mg of biomass. This productivity value has the potential to be a new source of lipase, besides Yarrowia lypolitica which has been known as a lipase producer with a productivity of 0.758 U/mg. Lipase production by Z. mellis SG1.2 needs to be increased by optimizing the production medium. The aims of this study were to determine the significant component of the medium for lipase production and methods to increase lipase production using the optimum medium. The two methods used for the statistical optimization of production medium were Taguchi and RSM (Response Surface Methodology). The data obtained were analyzed using Minitab 18 and SPSS 23 software. The most significant factors which affected lipase productivity were olive oil and peptones. The optimum medium composition consisted of 1.02% olive oil, 2.19% peptone, 0.05% MgSO4·7H2O, 0.05% KCl, and 0.2% K2HPO4. The optimum medium was able to increase the lipase productivity of Z. mellis SG1.2 to 1.8-fold times the productivity before optimization.

Physico-chemical characteristics of the Ca-based and Na-based dry sorbents were compared using thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and temperature programmed desorption (TPD) methods. The studied characteristics were thermal stability, sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) absorption capacity and absorption rate at $250^{\circ}C$ which is a typical temperature before a fabric filter, and $SO_2$ absorption capacity at an ambient temperature. Calcium hydroxide ($Ca(OH)_2$) started to decompose into calcium oxide (CaO) at $390^{\circ}C$ and completed at 480~$500^{\circ}C$, showing 76% of an original $Ca(OH)_2$ weight. Sodium bicarbonate ($NaHCO_3$) also converted to sodium carbonate ($Na_2CO_3$) between $95^{\circ}C$ and $190^{\circ}C$, decreasing the weight to 63% of its initial weight. Among four sorbents tested at $250^{\circ}C$, sodium carbonate had the highest capacity, absorbing 0.35 g $SO_2$/g sorbent. Calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide followed that showing 0.156 g and 0.065 g $SO_2$ absorption per absorbent respectively. Ca-based absorbents showed slower rate than sodium carbonate because of initial stagnant step. However, calcium hydroxide caught more $SO_2$ than sodium carbonate at ambient temperature. From this work, it can be concluded that Ca-based absorbent is a proper sorbent for $SO_2$ treatment at low temperature and sodium carbonate, at high temperature.
