  • The interaction network of protein -protein plays an important role to understand the various biological functions of cells. Currently, the high -throughput experimental techniques (two -dimensional gel electrophoresis, mass spectroscopy, yeast two -hybrid assay) provide us with the vast amount of data for protein-protein interaction at the proteome scale. In order to recognize the role of each protein in their network, the efficient bioinformatical and computational analysis methods are required. We propose a systematic and mathematical method which can analyze the protein -protein interaction network rigorously and enable us to capture the biological and physical essence of a topological character and stability of protein -protein network, and sensitivity of each protein along the biological pathway of their network. We set up a Laplacian matrix of spectral graph theory based on the protein-protein network of yeast proteome, and perform an eigenvalue analysis and apply a perturbation method on a Laplacian matrix, which result in recognizing the center of protein cluster, the identity of hub proteins around it and their relative sensitivities. Identifying the topology of protein -protein network via a Laplacian matrix, we can recognize the important relation between the biological pathway of yeast proteome and the formalism of master equation. The results of our systematic and mathematical analysis agree well with the experimental findings of yeast proteome. The biological function and meaning of each protein cluster can be explained easily. Our rigorous analysis method is robust for understanding various kinds of networks whether they are biological, social, economical...etc

  • It is important to evaluate the fracture network in a rock volume because fractures control the ground conditions and fluid flow characteristics. Therefore, various attempts have been made to quantify fracture networks to better understand ground and flow conditions. The use of fracture density alone (a quantitative parameter based on geometric analysis) does not fully explain the evolution of fracture networks, or quantify the spatial relationship (e.g. connectivity) of fractures in a rock mass. Therefore, the need for fracture network characterization based on topological analysis has recently emerged. In Korea however, the topological analysis of fracture networks within a rock mass has rarely been studied. As such, the definition of the topological analysis of fracture networks and the graph theory related to the topological analysis are briefly summarized in this study. We also introduce an application method for these analyses to fracture characterization. If the topological method is used for the analysis of fracture networks, it can also be adopted to analyze fluid flow characteristics of groundwater, characterize petroleum reservoirs, and analyze the evolution of a fracture network. In addition, topological analysis can be useful for site selection of major facilities such as nuclear waste disposal sites because it can be used to evaluate the stability of the potential sites.

  • Recently, close-to-nature stream improvement works have been carried out in urban streams, where eco-friendly bank revetment methods have been adopted. These bank revetment methods are vulnerable to be damaged or washed away by floods compared to the traditional methods which use concrete materials. Damage analysis methods on the urban streams by the floods of severe rain storm are presented. The analysis methods are the graph-using method and the grid method, which are derived from the survey results at Gwangju stream. Damage analysis grid which is intersected velocity grid and material strength grid is the highest correlation with the damage survey grid. The biggest damage on the bank revetments have been occurred around the crossing structures. Big damages have also been occurred in the connection of low water revetment and the terrace land, and around the structures in the terrace land of the stream.

  • This study was accomplished to investigate the dietary life and their opinion about the food-nutrition labelling of 20's∼60's housewives in Seoul and Kyeonggi area. The results were as follows. Among subjects, 63.5% didn't make a budget for the food expenses because they did not practice habitually not only the budget-planning, but also the menu planning. They often brought the Kimchi from the relatives rather than preparing it by themselves. On the other hand, they often purchased the soy sauce, soybean paste and soybean paste mixed with red pepper. When purchasing the foods, the importantly considered factors were in the order of freshness, taste and nutritional quality. They thought the processed foods were convenient and economic in terms of time but were not beneficial for the health and low in the nutritional quality. The confirming degree of food-nutrition labelling was very low, but in case of confirming, they often confirmed the manufactured date and the expiration date in order to confirm the stability. The degree of confidence and understanding about food-nutrition labelling of subjects was average 3.3 out of 5. They wanted the nutrient content the most in the food-nutrition labelling on the package. They preferred it as the types of picture and graph rather than the table and descriptiption. The expected effects of food-nutrition labelling was that they might be helpful to select the foods for the prevention of the adult diseases and obesity. From the results, we proposed that the agencies and nutrition concerned consumers should make an every efforts for the successful implementation of food-nutrition labelling system.

  • Verilog-HDL-based modeling can be performed to confirm the fast operation characteristics after setting the design parameters of each block considering the stability of the system by performing linear phase-domain modeling on the phase-locked loop. This paper proposed Verilog-HDL modeling including DCO noise and DTC nonlinear characteristic. After completing the modeling, the time-domain transient simulation can be performed to check the feasibility and the functionality of the proposed PLL system, then the phase noise result from the system design based on the functional model can be verified comparing with the ideal phase noise graph. As a result of the comparison of simulation time (6 us), the Verilog-HDL-based modeling method (1.43 second) showed 484 times faster than the analog transistor level design (692 second) implemented by TSMC 0.18-㎛.

  • Purpose The present study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of the respiratory gating method used in the flow mode and additional localized respiratory-gated imaging, which differs from the step and go method. Materials and Methods Respiratory gated imaging was performed in the flow mode to twenty patients with lung cancer (10 patients with stable signals and 10 patients with unstable signals), who underwent PET/CT scanning of the torso using Biograph mCT Flow PET/CT at Bundang Seoul University Hospital from June 2016 to September 2016. Additional images of the lungs were obtained by using the respiratory gating method. SUVmax, SUVmean, and Tumor Volume ($cm^3$) of non-gating images, gating images, and additional lung gating images were found with Syngo, bia (Siemens, Germany). A paired t-test was performed with GraphPad Prism6, and changes in the width of the amplitude range were compared between the two types of gating images. Results The following results were obtained from all patients when the respiratory gating method was applied: $SUV_{max}=9.43{\pm}3.93$, $SUV_{mean}=1.77{\pm}0.89$, and $Tumor\;Volume=4.17{\pm}2.41$ for the non-gating images, $SUV_{max}=10.08{\pm}4.07$, $SUV_{mean}=1.75{\pm}0.81$, and $Tumor\;Volume=3.56{\pm}2.11$ for the gating images, and $SUV_{max}=10.86{\pm}4.36$, $SUV_{mean}=1.77{\pm}0.85$, $Tumor\;Volume=3.36{\pm}1.98$ for the additional lung gating images. No statistically significant difference in the values of $SUV_{mean}$ was found between the non-gating and gating images, and between the gating and lung gating images (P>0.05). A significant difference in the values of $SUV_{max}$ and Tumor Volume were found between the aforementioned groups (P<0.05). The width of the amplitude range was smaller for lung gating images than gating images for 12 from 20 patients (3 patients with stable signals, 9 patients with unstable signals). Conclusion In PET/CT scanning using the respiratory gating method in the flow mode, any lesion movements caused by respiration were adjusted; therefore, more accurate measurements of $SUV_{max}$, and Tumor Volume could be obtained from the gating images than the non-gating images in this study. In addition, the width of the amplitude range decreased according to the stability of respiration to a more significant degree in the additional lung gating images than the gating images. We found that gating images provide information that is more useful for diagnosis than the one provided by non-gating images. For patients with irregular signals, it may be helpful to perform localized scanning additionally if time allows.

  • Study on growth change of dental arch is considered to both an important data in orthodontic diagonsis and treatment planning as well as analysis of treatment results , also, arch form is important in anthropology and dentistry, even more so in prosthodontics and orthodontics. In the field of orthodontics, studies on the functional aspect of upper and lower teeth and maintenance of stability of dentition and occlusion were carried out from the early days. Some of the early studies include explanation of growth change in dental arch from measuring directly fom human stroll, and afterwards, cephalometrics x-rays were introduced; accordingly, studies using cephalometric measurement and linear measurements of study models were often performed. By this method, arch width, arch depth and perimeters were measured, and growth change or dental arch was studied. The subject ror this study were sn children(boys and girls or ages from 3 yens to 12 years from Kang-won district and Seoul, who has no history of orthodontic treatment and who show healthy status and normal growth and development. Cephalometric x-ray, panoramic x-ray, and study model were taken for each subject consecutively for 2 years, and the subjects are still followed up. 400 pairs of study models from the past two years were used in this study; mesio-distal diameater of each tooth, intercanine width, intermolar width, canine depth, molar depth and arch perimeters were measured. Afterwards, mean value and each standard deviation of each age group and each gender were obtained, and representation graph were drawn. The following conclusion were obtained. 1. Intercanine width showed gradual increase until the age of 10-years and after that, showed no increase. 2. Intermolar width in upper arch showed gradual increase : intermolar width in lower arch showed no significant chang, and after the age of 9-years, showed increase. 3. Cainine arch depth showed relatively rapid increase after the age of 6-years, and this pattern was more obvious in lower arch. 4. Molar arch depth increased gradually in both archs and it decrease after the age of 10-years : this phenomenon was more prominent in the lower arch. 5. Arch perimeter showed gradual inerease and convert to plateau at the age of 10-years, after that, it decreased. this pattern was more prominent in lower arch.
