  • A reliability based slope stability assessment method is proposed and examined considering the variation of matric suction which is measured by a real time slope monitoring system. Mean value first order reliability method and advanced first order reliability method are used to calculate reliability indices of a slope. The applicability of methods is compared by applying them to the range of matric suctions measured by the real-time monitoring system. Sensitivity analysis is also performed to examine the contribution of random variables to the reliability index of slope. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a model slope. The results show that the reliability index of slope can be used for efficient slope management by quantifying the risk of slope in real time.

  • This paper is to develope the fast screening algorithm for on line transient security assessment. All generators are represented in a classical model and stability index is defined as a ratio between acceleration power and deceleration power Critical machines and remaining machines are identified based on stability index and aggregated into two equivalent machines. And finally equivalent machines are reduced into OMIB system then CCT is computed. The Proposed algorithm is applied to the KEPCO system and obtained the reasonable results compared with TSA Tool.

  • The potential allergenicity of the transgene products in genetically modified organisms (GMOs). has been an important issue. As a part of the risk assessment of GMOs. we investigated the physicochemical stability and the immunogenicity of food allergens to determine their allergenicity. We have systematically evaluated the stability of food allergens in the gastrointestinal tract by using simple models of gastric (Stimulated gastric fluid) and intestinal (Stimulated intestinal fluid) digestion. • Power system analyses, which involve the handling of massive data volumes, necessitate the use of effective visualization methods to facilitate analysis and assist the user in obtaining a clear understanding of the present state of the system. This paper introduces an interface that compensates for the limitations of the visualization modules of dynamic security assessment tools, such as PSS/e and TSAT, for power system variables including generator rotor angle and frequency. The compensation is made possible through the automatic provision of dynamic simulation data in visualized and tabular form for better data intuition, thereby considerably reducing the redundant manual operation and time required for data analysis. The interface also determines whether the generators are stable through a generator instability algorithm that scans simulation data and checks for an increase in swing or divergence. The proposed visualization methods are applied to the dynamic simulation results for contingencies in the Korean Electric Power Corporation system, and have been tested by power system researchers to verify the effectiveness of the data visualization interface.

  • This study was carried out to predict the future technology on the prevention and reclamation of mining induced subsidences in Korea. We summarized the technical improvement of ground surveys and investigation, ground stability assessment, ground reinforcement, ground monitoring system and so on. It is essential to improve the technology that we try to collect and review all the data that is implemented on the site of mined area in Korea and collaborate all the members of public and private business sectors. We, also, try to expand our business area to related industry such as tunnelling, civil infrastructure, underground environmental assessment etc, and continue to develop oversea's market.

  • Analysis of slope stability failures, as one of the complex natural hazards, is one of the important research issues in the field of civil engineering. Present paper adopts and investigates four soft computing-based techniques for this problem: Patient Rule-Induction Method (PRIM), M5' algorithm, Group Method of data Handling (GMDH) and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS). A comprehensive database consisting of 168 case histories is used to calibrate and test the developed models. Six predictive variables including slope height, slope angle, bulk density, cohesion, angle of internal friction, and pore water pressure ratio were considered to generate new models. The results of test studies are used for feasibility, effectiveness and practicality comparison of techniques with each other, and with the other available well-known methods in the literature. Results show that all methods not only are feasible but also result in better performance than previously developed soft computing based predictive models and tools. It is shown that M5' and PRIM algorithms are the most effective and practical prediction models.

  • Preventive control has to solve two important problems. The first is fast and accurate severity assessment of instability originated from the occurrence of a dangerous contingency. The second is to choose an action able to stabilize it. In this paper we assess contingencies in power systems using PASF(Power Angle Shape Filtering) and control power systems by a generation rescheduling. The control action stabilize the whole set of harmful contingencies simultaneously. Note that conventional time-domain transient stability methods can hardly tackle preventive control. So, we study the preventive control using off-line method. The proposed method is applied to prevent and to correct loss of synchronism of all the generators in a operating systems data.

  • Contingency analysis is one of the most important tasks encountered by planning and operation of lafe scale power systems. This paper describes a new contingency analysis methods for small signal security assessment based on the eigen-sensitivity/perturbation of the electromechanical oscillation modes. The eigen-sensitivity/perturbation with respect to line suceptances and controller parameters can he used to find possible sources of the system instability, and to select contingency for small signal stability. Also, the contingency selection to identify critical generators for MW changes can be obtained by computing the relative movement of the system oscillation modes. The proposed algorithm has been successfully tested on the KEPCO systems which is comprised of 791-bus, 1575-branch and program PSS/E

  • Transient security assessment(TSA) is becoming an essential requirement not only for security monitoring but also for stabilizing control of power systems under new electricity environments. It has already been pointed out that fast transient stability study is an important part for monitoring and controlling system security. In this paper, we discuss an energy function method for stabilizing control of transiently unstable systems by introducing generator tripping system to enhance the transient stability of power systems. The stabilization with less tripped power can be obtained by tripping the generators faster than out-of-synchronism relay. Fast transient stability assessment based on the state estimation and direct transient energy function method is an important part of the stabilizing scheme. It is possible to stabilize the transiently unstable system by tripping less generators before the action of out-of-synchronism relay, especially when a group of generator are going to be out-of-synchronism. Moreover, the amount of generator output needed for tripping can be decided by Transient Energy Function(TEF) method. The main contribution of this paper is on the stabilizing scheme which can be running in the Wide Area Control System.
